  1. It's just been on the local BBC news about the visit to Liverpool on Monday.  It showed the pilot practicing on a simulator.

For the naming ceremony, the ship will be in the middle of the river in front of the Three Graces.

When do we find out who is doing the naming?

Back in December 2014, we were on the “cruise to nowhere” aboard Queen Elizabeth. Due to high winds, the ship could not navigate the canal into Amsterdam for the planned overnight stay. Cunard were unable to arrange any alternative ports so we had 4 days at sea in stormy weather. Lots of passengers weren’t happy! In the case of today’s departure, it’s good to hear that two nice sounding alternatives have been found. Hope those on board have a good trip and you’re back in good time for me to board on Sunday for the fjords.. 😀

I was on that trip too. Up and down the Channel. The last night we spent on the ship in Southampton! Some people had already disembarked.

    Ditto for Sunday 🙂

  3. Our boarding time was assigned 3 weeks prior to the day.  We were given 2.45pm even though we have been Diamond for a while.  We have previously been used to having been given 12.30pm and having priority on our labels. But no priority given this time. We feel we have been downgraded and also we'll have to find somewhere to have lunch in Southampton, having previously been able to have it on board.

Lunch in the Golden Lion today, fast service and good food.

While the Cheese Toastie was good, I’d don’t think I’d pay $7.50 for it again.

Since when have you had to pay for food in the Golden Lion? As far as I remember the food is free and you only have to pay for any drinks.

  5. Lucky you living in the West Country so no too far to travel.  We used to go to Cornwall twice a year as well but have given up because of the distance, and Southampton in a few weeks will be a bit trying.

We regularly go to beautiful North Wales now instead.

  6. The email I received from Cunard this afternoon reads:

    A Memorable Milestone

Today we officially took delivery of our newest ship, Queen Anne, from master shipbuilders Fincantieri. The traditional handover ceremony took place in the Marghera shipyard near Venice. During the ceremony the Cunard flag was proudly raised by Captain Inger Thorhauge, signifying the change in ownership.

We’d like to express our thanks to the very skilled team of engineers, designers, architects and more who have worked tirelessly on Queen Anne during her time at Fincantieri Marghera.

Cunard President, Katie McAlister was joined by CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, Pierroberto Folgiero; and General Manager of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, Luigi Matarazzo.

Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, was also present to welcome Queen Anne to our fleet.

Captain Thorhauge will be at the helm, when she sets sail for her home port of Southampton, ready for what is sure to be a spectacular maiden voyage on Fri‌day 3 M‌ay.

We’ll be posting the latest updates throughout her journey home, as well as sneak peeks of what is in store for guests across our social channels,
so be sure to follow us.

in only one month’s time we will begin a new era of sailing as a fleet of four. On 3 ‌May ‌2024, Queen Anne will welcome her first guests in Southampton for an unforgettable maiden sailing.

Is there a way to see what excursions are available before booking? I'm particularly interested in Hamburg. Thank you.

You used to be able to see excursions on Cunard's website before you booked a cruise. It seems crazy why they've stopped doing that now.

I can give you Cunard Hamburg excursions from 2016:

    Medieval Luneburg

    Snapshot of Hamburg

Jewish Hamburg and Former Concentration Camp

    The Beatles, Beer and Bratwurst

  9. I take it you mean Rotterdam, not Rotherham 🙂

I've been on a few 4 day Cunard cruises and they weren't booze cruises. Maybe more apt to other cruise lines.
