  1. At the airport they sell bulbs which can be brought in to the States. They have some seal of approval (which certifies that the grower passed certain government tests or checks to ensure that the bulbs meet US/CAN import standards).

You can also buy the bulbs at the Flower Market if they have the seal on them.

  2. Our favorite ship is Eurodam and I know they have a sign as you go out the door from the Lido saying the aft pool is for those over 18.

We cruised Zuiderdam over spring break and it did not have such a sign. Midway through the cruise they put up signs in the Lido pool that said "Family Pool" but there were still plenty kids and teens in the aft pool.

I DO NOT have a problem with kids in the pool. But they were playing the game where someone throws the football to someone who jumps in the pool as they catch it. They also skimmed it across the pool like you would skim a rock in a creek. There was a time they played marco polo despite about 10 adults already being in there. They often did cannonballs into that tiny pool not caring about the adults they kicked. Getting splashed was the least of our worries. That pool was way too small for their games.

It got to the point when the teens showed up the adults left.

I never saw but heard adults say that bar staff had told the teens to leave but they returned a couple minutes later.

I have a Thanksgiving cruise on Eurodam on hold but will not go if this is what will happen again. I love the pool and dreaded sea days knowing this would happen again and again each day.

Do they enforce the over 18 rule or is the mindset that there are so many kids they can't keep them out? Who should we have complained to that could have prevented this?

We did 14 days. in December, on the NA in the Caribbean. Every time people brought small children to the pool an officer was there shortly to remind them of the fact that the aft pool is for adults only. Each time they left. No problem.

  3. We arrive during May at 1000, leaving at 1700 - rather short amount of time. We are wanting to go up the fjord to Pulpit Rock - we have the choice of taking an overpriced shore excursion departing at 1030, returning at 1330. This clearly leaves us with time in port to explore old town and their recommended church.

There is an independent fjord excursion, same itinerary minus the waffles and reasonable priced departing at 1215, returning at 1445. This breaks our time into two segments to explore Stavanger - neither a very long time period.

My question is - having never been to this port, will the mid day fjord cruise allow us to be able to see old town and the church, or will we be really cutting it short in taking this private excursion? I appreciate advice from those who have experience here. There will be 4 ships, 8,000+ passengers in town this day 👺👺

    Thank you

I am sure you have already checked this out but when we were in Stavanger several years ago the ship we were on did the Pulpit Rock visitation. That was a Holland America ship. It was on our itinerary.

  4. I hadn't thought about the War Museum. It does look fascinating. We just returned from Washington DC and we visited the Holocaust Museum there. A sobering and powerful experience.

What about the War Museum makes it your favorite? Bath does looks so beautiful. What in Bath would you visit if you had a short time? The Roman Bath? Things related to Jane Austen? Any suggestions?

The War Museum's exhibit on the First World War is impressive and sobering. They also have extensive exhibits on the Second War. They also have special exhibits that we always found fascinating, one was centered on the involvement of women and families during WW2.

As for Bath the first time I went there I did the HOHO bus and got off where I was interested. The guided tour thru the baths was most enlightening, to think that the Romans heated their homes from the floors up was amazing. When I went back I always went to the baths. They have great docents who always tell marvelous stories.

  5. A group of us (around 8 people) will be on a cruise in July that takes us to Isafjordur and Reykjavik, Iceland. We are fortunate to have nearly 2 days in Reykjavic in that we arrive at 8 am and leave at 5:00 pm the next day. We want to do the Golden Circle Tour, the Blue Lagoon and see the City sights. Trying to decide which day to do what. It seems that the Golden Circle tour takes around 8 hours, so I believe we would need to do that tour the first day. Since we leave at 5:00 the second day, will we have enough time to do the Blue Lagoon and see the city? How long do people usually stay at the Blue Lagoon? Any suggestions for tour operators for these sights would be appreciated.

We, husband and I, are doing the Blue Lagoon on the 1st day in Iceland. Have been there before so just plan to see the city by foot the second day. If you go to http://www.grayline.is you will find transportation to Blue Lagoon. Buses will pick you up at the pier, take you to the Lagoon and return you to the pier. Cost for transportation is 26 euro, then buy entrance tickets to the Lagoon at 50 euro each. I believe you can also buy a combination ticket at grayline web site for the bus and the entrance. We plan to spend a good part of the day there but you can do it in 2 hours, very relaxing.

  6. We are booked on a 14 day eurodam jan. 24. When we return to ft. Lauderdale after 7 days do we go through customs. Does everyone remain on the ship or do some passengers disembark utilizing just the first leg of the cruise? Do we get to bring another bottle of wine per person as we return to the ship in lauderdale?

We just did a back to back 14 days on the Nieuw Amsterdam. On the day in Fort Lauderdale we did not have to disembark. We did have to go to the showroom to submit our passports. No problem. We did not have to attend the life boat drill that day and could not bring on 2 more bottles of wine.

  7. I noticed you said November but DH and I have done two TA's in the last couple of years both the North Atlantic. They start somewhere in Europe and end in New York City. I checked 2016 and the Zuiderdam is leaving Copenhagen on 8/21/2016 doing 17 days to NYC. It stops in Norway, several Icelandic locations, Greenland, New Foundland, Halifax and then NYC. We have found these cruises to be fascinating. There is always a naturalist with the cruise, the Captain's are quite excited to be doing them and often bring their families along. It is just an idea but it one route we always love. Oh and the New York arrival cannot be underestimated. You arrive before sunrise, sail past the Statue of Liberty, the new World Trade Center and park right next to the Independence with a beautiful SST sitting on it's deck.

    Heaven.

  8. Thanks for this info.. We were planning to send our renewals in this week..Had our pictures taken at Walgreens, but mine looks like I'm "Very Angry"..:mad: DH's is fine.. Paid $27 for both of ours..

My passport photo, which just expired was great..DH took them & I was smiling.. Walgreens claimed that you should not smile..I believe they don't know what they are talking about..

My Friend says no one will see my passport picture, but I really would like to have it taken again..

Not cruising until mid November, so have time.

All new passport pictures must be with no smiles, mine looks horrible but that is how the customs officials want them. Apparently it is easier for the officials to compare faces.
