  1. I was on this same sailing and we did the golf carts. It was a great experience. We went both North and South; we started out heading South towards the salt flats and Donkey Sanctuary (which was GREAT!!!) and then headed up North to the Flamingo Sanctuary. There was more to see in the South (in my opinion), but the views heading up North were spectacular!!!!

Whatever you do, try to avoid Golf Cart #2. . .that's the one I had and I thought I was going to have to push it back to the pier!!!!

We also did the carts, fantastic.. you can easily do both south and north in a day. We left about 9ish and went south first, stopped at Jibe beach for a drink and got back to the ship around 11:45. Went back aboard for lunch and headed back out at 12:45 and did the north loop. Got back to the ship at 3:30. My tips are to reserve early they were sold out when we arrived, expect a wait to get your cart, because they take time with each group to go over the map and talk to you about what to expect along the way and this can take 5 minutes or so. The pick up point is less than a 5 minute walk from the ship. You will be on public roads with traffic since the carts can go about 25-30mph you will be passed and we pulled over several times to let faster traffic pass.

With that our trip was over. Thanks to everyone for following along and if you have any questions I will see what I can do about answering them.

I will upload some videos very soon so stay tuned for that as well... In the meantime, I will leave you with words from the song made famous by Jimmy Buffett because it really has been a "Lovely Cruise"

    Drink it up

    This ones for you

    It's been a lovely cruise

    I'm sorry it's ended

    It's sad but it's true

Honey it's been a lovely cruise

    These moments were left with

    May you always remember

These moments are shared by few

    There's wind in our hair

And there's water in our shoes

Honey, it's been a lovely cruise

    These moments we're left with

    May you always remember

These moments are shared by few

    And those harbor lights

    Aw they're coming into view

We bid our farewell much too soon

    So drink it up

    This one's for you

Honey, it's been a lovely cruise

Yea baby, it's been a lovely cruise

Oh darlin' it's been a lovely cruise

  3. Thanks all, I think we will give this a shot, We are not worried about the drive we drive a lot normally. We know we will leave a number of potentially good stops along the way but we are traveling with our adult children and they have work schedules that limit our time away. Thanks again!

  4. Thinking of taking a cruise that will end in seward early on a Friday morning. Would this be possible?

Friday get off ship, train to anc and then rent a car and drive to denali, arrive early evening.

Saturday, tour denali with either a tour or shuttle

Sunday, drive on to Fairbanks for a late afternoon flight.

I've done some research that would say this could be possible but looking for expert advice.

    Thanks, Charlie

  5. Most taxis will take credit cards but if you plan to use your AmEx then ask the driver first as it's not so widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard (this applies in shops and restaurants too).

If someone gives you really good service then by all means say "thank you" with a small tip but it's not expected and you won't cause any offence if you don't.

I've read a lot about AMEX not being taken very widely but I just returned from there and in 3 days in Sydney after the cruise I did not find one place that didn't take my AMEX. In fact every were I turned there were ads for AMEX, even david jones now has a AMEX card with there name on it.

Now I did encounter a couple of place that wanted to put a 3% surcharge on for using my AMEX, which wasn't so bad since all my visa cards did that automatically when used out of the US. So I used my AMEX exclusively since they didn't charge my 3% for each of my foreign transactions.
