  1. But would you not tip your server if the restaurant ‘s bathroom sink leaked?

Your comparison doesn't sorry to say

Because on ncl the dsc is pooled and everyone and then some seems to get a piece of it...or so they say

So in the scenario you describe....if the bathroom sink in your cabin wasn't fixed after several requests while onboard that it be fixed....then yup a reduction (not total removal) in dsc is warranted

This is how you let ncl know that they dropped the ball

Guest services/hotel director/housekeeping/maintenance... all did not do their job if after several complaints your cabin sink is not fixed

Also your steward is at fault as well because don't they clean the bathroom daily?

    Don't they see it's leaking?

Isn't it their job to report it so it can be fixed?

They get clogged toilets fixed don't they? They are responsible to get leaky sinks fixed as well

  2. I'm sorry San Juan is not fine.....not by a long shot and will not be for months

    Marion

You responded to a poster who posted about San Juan on sept 14

Things were different in San Juan then

As a long time poster on these boards I find it's important to not only read and quote the entire post that one is quoting but to check out the date of the post before you quote it....

    That's just me.

  3. They would not have saved any money if they had had passports. Having a passport does not get you a free airline ticket.

No but it gets you the next available seat without having to wait for days in a hotel until you can secure travel documents

Personally with all the crazy natural disasters and brewing political issues these days the money spent on a pp is well spent as is the insurance premiums

And last but not least to all of you who proudly boast "I don't use credit cards".....you had better have lots and lots of cash on you should you have any issues while traveling...

Oh wait....having a good credit card with a healthy credit limit covers that

For those that will now say"glad you have a large credit line but I don't but I'm still entitled to travel"

Well you are correct....just bring lots of cash with you and be prepared as you really don't want to be stranded somewhere without a credit card or sufficient cash

  4. Actually it does matter. Many policies will only pay the single supplement charge if the travel partner cancels for a covered reason. If it not a covered reason, then no insurance coverage.

If that's the case in this situation.....and they are in the no refund period....then the travel partner should just be a no show...no supplement and the pax that cancels gets tax and port back

If the travel partner will lose their cruise fare...and their insurance doesn't cover it...then the pax that can cruise should just cruise and the other be a no show

but if the pax that can travel has the proper policy that policy should cover their supplement if any regardless

Also in cases like this where the employer is totally to blame...that employer is responsible for that lost cruise fare

    Take that as you will...

  5. (I have no idea what the OP or anyone else has had to deal with, so this is a general statement)

Unless the people onboard have been given a chance to correct whatever the issue is, then why remove it?

    Not right. At all.

As to the person that said they got it back on their CC in a few days - that does not mean NCL dealt with it... they may have just not responded to the CC folks.

I disputed the charge after 6 weeks of waiting. My bank of course refunded me ...then 48 hours later I got the credit from ncl

So for a short timeframe I had 2 credits

1 from my bank (this of course was a temporary credit)

1 from ncl (this of course was the permanent credit)

As soon as the ncl credit came thru my bank notified me the case was closed and that they would be reversing their initial temporary credit

That's how it usually works and that's how it worked this time

So yes....I did get the credit from ncl and they are fully aware that they did give it to me

Oh and I'm booked on another cruise with ncl too....got a great price...got obc added after initial booking when they added it as a perk and the rep couldn't have been nicer to me about it ...just got approved for their credit card too....so nope my account is not flagged and nope I'm not concerned about my steward knowing I removed dsc once either...

I removed it for a valid reason....which ncl totally allows....so I did what ncl suggests

  6. It really doesn't matter why your travel partner cancels does it?

Your policy should pay your supplement if your partner cancels

Your partner could be uninsured and it wouldn't matter as long as you insured yourself

Unless you live under the same roof and are related you can't get a joint policy anyway

2 unrelated people traveling together need their own policies

This I know from traveling with friends

  7. Same here.. As for the bartenders I bring a roll or two of those gold (color) $1.00 presidential coins as tips. They seem to get a kick out of them..

I bring $2 dollar bills and make them into cute little origami figures. They seem to get a kick out of them as well

  8. Wow, what a lot of rationalizing and made up nonsense. Deep down you must really feel guilty about this or you wouldn't be trying so hard to defend yourself or be unwilling to tell us what was so horrible it justified stiffing the crew.

Um no not at all guilty

And no not at all rationalizing

You joined cc in June 2017 but in reality this topic has been discussed and debated for years and most understand exactly how ncl operates with our dsc

  9. Cheap people disgust me.

So removing dsc because of horrendous service that was not corrected by ships management makes the person cheap?

    And cheap people disgust you?

Does it really matter to anyone if you are disgusted?

Do you think anyone will care?

Sorry but it's not about you at all but if you want to let others who have their own reasons for removing dsc disgust you...heck go for it. Make your self miserable

    But...

If service is terrible and not corrected....you can bet my dsc is being removed

That might disgust you but I call it standing up for myself and not being taken for a fool

  10. Nope, sorry. I might feel differently if there were a way to separate the pool, but there isn’t. And even if, for example, you had the absolute worst cabin steward in the world, removing the DSC also takes money away from all the other staff members who did absolutely nothing wrong. Unless every single staff member you encountered in your whole cruise did a deplorable job, there is no valid reason to remove it. Obviously that’s my opinion, but I truly don’t understand how people justify it. If you don’t want to pay it, don’t cruise.

Do you really think the staff are getting your dsc handed to them directly?

It goes into a pool...and we have no clue at all where it goes or how it's distributed or how often. It's a negative comment card that is the real danger to crew not someone removing dsc

    My take....

    Ncl grabs dsc from us

They do whatever they do with it

They give a small bonus check perhaps on a monthly basis based on a prearranged % that is more than likely a minimum agreed upon % via contractual arrangement

Removing dsc isn't hurting anyone because ncl will pay their employees a satisfactory amount or risk losing them

    And is your decision

    Give cash if you want

Don't concern yourself with crew salary etc.

    That's Ncl's responsibility

    Crew are not slave labor

    They take the jobs willingly

  11. They just gave me a piece if paper with the website link I needed to go to to remove the charges

It took about 6 weeks for the refund

Amazingly the refund came in 48 hours after I disputed the charge with my cc. Lol

And nope...it's nobody's business why I removed it

  12. You might want to be sure that the notarized letter etc gives you authority to get medical care for the boy

I would think that since he is traveling without a pp that YOU should get travel insurance for your family

My research tells me that you can't add this boy to your policy as he doesn't live under your roof BUT should anything happen to him and you need to stay behind with him at least you will have your hotel and transportation bills covered

He is your travel companion. I would also ask a human before buying the policy as well what is exactly covered should this situation arise or if he can be added to your policy

The parents of the boy may want to buy him a policy as well but that's unlikely considering their frugal situation. Personally as a parent I would not send my child out of the country without a pp regardless of closed loop cruise

While I admit it's highly unlikely....I can't imagine how difficult things could get if your sons friend should say break a limb that requires surgery to set...requires a hospital stay ....doesn't have a pp...doesn't have travel insurance !!!

Oh and is a minor in your care!

Also I too would like to know this boys age and why you are paying anything at all for him...yes his parents are living frugally and yes I know you want your son to have a friend...but when you said your dh lost his job it upsets me that this family is letting you pay anything at all

My real concern is how much it could cost you if this kid has any accidents/medical issues while in your care

  13. Went to Italy for Christmas last year and my luggage didn't make it.

Had to buy luggage there to bring back the clothes I had to buy.

Didn't want to buy expensive luggage as I already have good luggage so bought a cheap suitcase and had it wrapped to keep it from falling apart on the trip home.

    Lois

Oh what a shame. So sorry your luggage was lost. This is always my fear so that's why I travel with at least 7 days worth of simple outfits in my 21 inch carry on

Simple tops and bottoms underware extra shoes and a sleep shirt

  14. Correlation does not imply causality.

I fly a lot with unwrapped luggage, and it arrives as it left.

I have also seen wrapped luggage coming onto the baggage carousel totally messed up.

Oh, and once you get to your room, how to you open your bag? Especially these days where you cannot bring a knife in your carry on, it is wrapped up in your luggage. :)

You take a pen and poke the wrap

  15. LOL...people make packing so complicated. I simply take what I need for the trip and put it in my suitcase. No special bags, cubes or gold lined bags needed. I may roll any dress pants or shirts to minimize wrinkles but that is as extravagant as I get.

    Me too

Those packing cubes would take up too much real estate in my 21 inch roll on that I use for all my trips...no checked luggage for me in the last 20 years

Oh and I never rinse out under ware either...I just bring the correct number plus a few and either discard them or put them in dirty laundry area

$10.99 for a 10 pack of cotton underware that may well get tossed is money very well spent lol

  16. Protects the luggage and contents within from spills, dirt, torn off zippers, etc.

And from being opened and picked through by baggage handlers

And it insures that nobody puts contraband in your suitcase.

This is a particularly serious problem btw...as you are responsible for anything found in your luggage regardless of how it got there

Of course this issue is of more concern to some travelers than to others but if you look at the travelers who are lugging wrapped luggage up to the counter you might be able to figure out why they are wrapping it up

Some airports worldwide are more notorious than others Doesn't take a genius to figure this out

  17. Yup I quickly booked my excursion for Cozumel as soon as Irma hit

Btw I was always on a western Carib for next April but this one excursion I was still on the fence with so I pounced asap

  18. I wonder where are all the posters who were ''irritated'' , who accused me of ''hiding facts'', being a ''liar'' & ''fooling everyone'' ???

I have explained everything in detail & replied to ALL my detractors, critics & even those who insulted me openly.

I guess they stopped playing your game?

  19. Imho and based on the "get people all riled up article" I just read.....some of the alternate ports like st croix are in the path of Lee and Maria now. As are the islands already damaged

On the brighter side Marathon in the Keys reopened but people are being told to come back with any and all supplies they will need with them
