  1. Wow - we have a real disconnect on what I said and your comprehending what I said. I don't recall disagreeing with anyone's disappointment but rather their lack of accepting change for an EXCLUSIVE PERK onboard Oasis that is not even publicized anywhere else. But thanks, I had a great night and my arm is NOT sore from patting myself on the back. Oh yeah, I prefer ma'am instead of sir. So does my husband. :D

Welcome to the world of common sense. JC and I welcome you to our small universe. I would guess the B/L was on borrowed time once the Diamond Breakfast was discontinued on so many ships. I don't think it exists anymore either.

    I loved your response!

  2. I know enough about you from the tone of your posts to make the comment I made and I stand firm to it. The CEO may be over the top but so are you. If you're so "grown up" move on to Azamara and save us the attitude and insult while you chew their high quality steak, spit it out and complain about it so I sip to the lack of negativity on my vacation. Cheers!

You don't know me at all and I don't believe you can tell anything about me from the "tone" of my posts, none of which were anything out of line including the one I sent to you. When referring to me you have no clue what you are talking about.

Just to inform you I have cruised RCI exclusively since 1988 and I am very happy with their overall product. I just don't care for Chops anymore. The new CEO obviously over exaggerates the Chops product. After being so loyal to RCI for so long I think I'm entitled to express my opinion, and that RCI is happy to hear it.

    Enough said.

  3. Why does everyone try to compare Chops with Ruth Chris or some other 5 star steak house???? As with the MDR, folks really have a very high expectation of the food at venus on the ship and get seriously let down if it does not meet their standards! Myself and this is just myself,,,,Steak is not that serious and a must have for me to go to Ruth Chris or the like and spend that kind of money on a steak dinner. I'm just as happy at Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse. Do I like steak...yes! Do I like Chops and the filet served there....yes! Do I like my steaks I cook at home....yes! I am so glad I am not a hard to please person and not always looking for the highest quality beef or the highest quality lobster, etc when I am on a cruise! I just look to leave with my stomach full and happy!

Is everthing on the shipp good and I would want to eat it....No! But like my father use to say about some food at some places...."It wasn't the best...but it killed hunger so I'm satisfied"!

Because, with the added $20.00 upcharge over the base $39.00 cover they are charging you Ruth Chris, etc. prices for quaility that does not match those restaurants. Plus, the prices I mentioned are on top of the main dinning room food costs already included, and paid for, in the base cruis cost.

  4. I agree.

My disappoint with Chops is we have been sailing on RCI for over 26 years and have gone to Chops since its inception. It was an excellent experience and a very good evening.

In recent years, the price has gone way up, but the quality has significantly gone down. Also, RCI has greatly reduced menu options including steaks and added the "something special" items for and increase of about $20.00 over the $39.00 base cover. So, what RCI is doing by reducing quality and reducing menu items is trying to induce their customers into paying a lot more for good quaility steaks.

We used to go to Chops at least 2 times a cruise------no more.

  5. The man is advocating for his product... what do you expect???

Neglect for our intelligence... some people have too much time on their hands!

Grow up. You don't know me and how much time I have or don't have. I wonder if you are an apologist for RCI. In my opinion Chops quality has gone down hill the past few years and his exaggeration does not change that.

I'm entitled to my opinion. And, in my opinion, I'm intelligent and experienced enough to know that one can advocate for their product while not making flat out misleading statements. His best on the planet statement is so obviously grossly exaggerated that it very much hurts his credibility, again in my opinion.

If you kike Chops so much, then go have some tater tots and pay $39.00 for the experience.

  6. You cant really expect him to say "the steak is just ok. You would probably do as well or better at Longhorn or Outback for less money" no matter how true that may be. LOL :D

Im sure he thinks Royal Caribbean is the BEST cruise line at sea too. :)

I understand your point, but to make an outrageous claim that Chops steak is the best on the planet is such an obvious gross exaggeration it is an insult to his customer's intelligence. That would be an outrageous claim even before they changed the menu.

  7. It might have been for him. No so much for Us.

Who is this guy kidding? If the steak is the best on the planet, then why do they charge $20.00 over and above the $39.00 cover charge for "a really good steak". Unless of course he was referring to the up charge over the cover as the best steak on the planet.

I am not getting a good feeling about the new CEO's sincerity.

  8. I agree with your assessment. However, what is really odd is in our pre cruise planner on Royal's web site for two of our upcoming cruses there is a sample menu for each of the specialty restaurants, including Chops. The menu shown is the "old" Chops menu, not the new one.

I'm hopping Royal got the message that, as a high level Royal manager told us on a very recent sailing, that they have been getting a lot of complaints about the "new" Chops menu.

    I can only hope.

  9. so cover charge is $35 to get in, and if you choose a dry aged New York you are paying another $18? Really?

Just got back from Oasis on July 12. Royal is now charging more for fewer options, smaller portions, and an extra $18.00 to $20.00 if you want a "really good steak". Experience at an Outback Steak House is better and I can get tater tots at my neighborhood dinner. Although the tater tots are larger than the ones you can buy at the supermarket, they taste about the same. Service has also gone down hill.

The Royal bean counters have ruined the Chops experience. We will not spend our money until they improve it.

  10. Background on my family and this cruise

First Royal Caribbean cruise (been on Disney and Norwegian)

    Husband: 41

    Me: 40

    Daughter: 8

Oasis of the Sea, Western Caribbean

    Aqua Suite 10th floor.

    First impressions:

The ship is huge! It was very exciting boarding this beauty. Check in was a breeze and everything was readily available as soon as we boarded. First stop was roast beef sandwiches everyone talks about. Very good. We were able to get in our suite right away as well. Like everyone says the balcony in the aqua suite is amazing. Enormous! I was a little disappointed in the bathrooms and bedrooms as they where both small and not so luxurious. I have stayed in suites on Disney and I found them to be much larger and better appointed (better furniture, etc). I do have to say our stateroom attendant was the best I have ever had.

    Food:

The food was hit or miss. Some nights in the dining room were very good. Others not so much. I found the buffet to be horrible. I would rather eat the sandwiches in Central Park or get a burger from Johnny Rockets. Chops was very good and worth the extra fee. The Asian restaurant wasn’t great. I didn’t like the any of their rolls. The Seafood Shack had food choices as well.

    Entertainment:

I can’t say too much on the subject of shows since I only attended one show...Come Fly with Me. I couldn’t really follow the story but it was still a great show. The acrobatics were incredible. We watched the aqua show from our suite and that was also very good. They did numerous performances during the week and some during the day. It was interesting watching them practice as well. We visited the casino several nights and were very lucky! Played blackjack for hours! The nightclub Blaze was also a good time. The music was a little dated but I’m from NYC so I’m used to being at the cutting edge. One great event they did was the Glow Party. They didn’t promote it too much but I’m really glad we went. I took my daughter and she loved it! Her best night all week!

    Ports:

Corporate America. If you didn’t have a excursion stay on the ship cause all it was was Royal Caribbean shopping. We did the cabanas at Barefoot Beach. I don’t think it was worth the expensive. There where lots of shady spots so we didn’t need the cabana. Plus the upgraded lunch was awful. Cozumel we did Nachi beach. It was very pretty. At first it was frustrating checking in as they wanted cash and it says on website you can pay with credit card. After some arguing they allowed us to use our credit cards but only for multiple purchase. You couldn’t put one person on one card. Jamaica we did Good Hope estate and it was beautiful, the highlight of the ports of call. I love the Jamaican people.

    Concierge services:

This is where I think Royal Caribbean is lacking. They have only two people services dozens of suites and diamond guests. It was always a line to talk to them. They didn’t do rounds to your rooms or leave you little treats like on Disney. You only saw them in the concierge lounge and only if you went to see them. They basically had no idea who I was. We had a issue trying to order food from the specially restaurants one evening to our room. They said it was formal night so it was too busy to do that. After some conversations we finally got it done. But everything was a struggle. We went to the lounge for breakfast one morning. Worst ever! It took 3 tries to get my food right ( egg white omelet with veggies, no meat, not so hard!) And my daughter never got her food. Also almost every morning I went up for coffee and it was out. How do they not have coffee at breakfast time? I feel that for what you pay for a suite you should get some sort of personalized service. This didn’t happen.

    Would I do Royal again?

Most likely not. It was an awesome ship to see and was super well cared for but the service lacked. The food was just OK and the ports not very exciting.

From experience, on Oasis and Allure the Aqua Theater Suits are very large but do not have the level of finishes as the Grand Suits and above. The Aqua Theater Suites have the same finishes as a standard cabin.
