  1. (I once questioned a Starbucks barista when a customer had his dog's face all up in the open food display, drooling on items that some unsuspecting customer will eventually touch and eat. She seemed perturbed that I would dare "put her in that position.")

I work for a popular bakery, with our wonderful pastries set out every morning for customers to choose from. We do have a glass sneeze guard but it could be larger. When a customer comes in, carrying their little pooch (with no identifiable vest), hovers over the pastries, you can bet I ask them to have consideration for the next customer behind them, and not let their dog's dander, hair, drool, nasal drip, or possible fleas contaminate our product for sale.

And yep, I have a lot of animals and cannot imagine a life without them. But I would not expect others to accept them as I do. Let alone take them on a confining cruise ship.

It boils down to consideration and respect for others. REAL service animals are another matter.

  2. Can anyone recently off the Amsterdam and was in a Neptune Suite, tell me what to expect? I know about the mimosas with breakfast ordered in and the use of the Neptune lounge. But can we expect canapés or the like delivered everyday in our cabin? What about fresh flower arrangements? Will we have a personal butler like on NCL? Any insight would be appreciated. First time on HAL

  3. My daughter and my 13 month old grandson cruised last year on carnival in an aft cabin. We also brought along the duckie tub since our little guy couldn't use the pools. What a life saver for him! It was very hot so he was also able to cool down. He loved it! My daughter also used the tub for his baths every night like the previous poster stated. I recommend this highly.

  4. If the cost is not too much more for a window that's my preference, but usually I get an interior cabin.

I agree with Maywell and also tend to use my room for sleeping & getting changed.

Much as I'd like to try a balcony the cost difference for a single person can be the price of another holiday, and I'd rather have the extra holiday [emoji2]

    Very good point

    :)

  5. A question for you solo cruisers, what type of cabin do you usually book? I realize there are certain things that can determine this but I was just wondering. I am single and my daughter was usually my travel partner but she has a young son now and eventually I think I may be cruising solo. We most often booked a balcony cabin but I am thinking if I book this type of cabin as a solo I would become a hermit on a ship full of people. What do you choose?

  6. I would like to throw in my 2 cents.

To Trevor Fountain we have ordered and taken home a dessert from a land based restaurant after dinner for the same reasons others have stated but also because we live at least 35 minutes from the nearest town/stores and usually do not have goodies at home. But I have not done so on a ship, usually do not go to specialty rest. This upcoming cruise we do have UDP and if I am paying for this and can't finish with desert, I probably will want to bring it back to the cabin. We cruise not for the ship and other passengers but for the cruise destinations. And the security of the cruise line's excursions because we cruise without our spouses. We get a balcony cabin and spend much of our time on that balcony peacefully waiting for the next port. With goodies or such we bring back to the cabin to enjoy

  7. I went 2 years ago in June.

It was expensive, but man was it tasty, the king crab was very sweet. Plus, the owner, don't remember his name, came out to our table and gave me an extra leg of crab! Yummy I have had it a couple times here in Northern Calif bought from grocery stores and it was salty and mushy. I like sweet firm crab, like our dungeness off our coast. I am planning on sampling again in August in Juneau

  8. Ok cruisers I have a question that needs an answer because I was doubted when I stated this fact that I picked up on one of my cruises. The question is: Is the engine on a ship called a generator? If you all could give me an answer I can pass it along to my doubter. Thank you :)

  9. Hello, I emailed OPC 8 months before my upcoming cruise and Alina Lenz got back to me within a couple of weeks. I emailed through their website at the time. I included my past cruisers number and all the dates and ships I cruised on, also my upcoming cruise booking number and dates along with my cabin number. I was eligible for some perks! Good luck!

We were on the Spirit in to Alaska in July and it was great. Alaska was amazing, beautiful scenery and we were lucky enough not to have rain the entire week. Had a great time on the Spirit. A great Naturalist on board that gave us lots of good information. I would do the Spirit again in a heart beat.:)

NYOB what was the weather like? I know with Alaska it is a layer kind of climate but was just wondering what your experience was in July? I will be on the Spirit June 2012. Also, were any of the pools heated? My DD was wondering.

  11. The history of this island is interesting! My wife and I will be their in 5 weeks on the Ruby. I am bringing my new Mine lab metal detector along with me on the cruise. I contacted Princes about bringing the detector on the ship and they said no problem. I would be interested in using it in areas around old foundations on the island. No telling what I may find!. With all the reports regarding ship wrecks off the island I may even find a old coin or two.

I wonder Crotchityoldman, did you ever find anything with your metal detector? I know it has been a long time since you posted but maybe you will check back. Very curious about finding forgotten treasures!

  12. In 2005 my sister got married on a Carnival cruise taking with her myself my mom and then our kids who were all in their teens then. About 6 kids total. This was our first cruise ever for all of us. The first stop was in Encenada Mx were the kids all had fun exploring. Well that night going to the show in the theater the two boys had their date with them. A blow up doll they had bought in Mexico! There they were strolling down the hallways with her in between them! It was so funny watching all these men's heads whip around to take another look! One even said, "Hey, I dated her!" Those kids got more laughter out of not only the passengers but the crew too on that cruise. My new BIL even danced with the blow up doll up in front of everyone in the theater waiting for the show to start. During the dance show, I was getting a kick out of the dancers even taking a double take at the "girl" in sitting in the front row! What fun!

  13. Has anyone stayed in 8167? Does anyone know how bad the noise is from the Spinnaker Lounge in this stateroom?

I haven't stayed in this cabin but I stayed in 8170 last year (2010) right after the Spinnaker lounge was moved to the back of the ship. We could hear the boom boom boom from the music in the Spinnaker very well. I put earplugs in and slept great! My husband not so well...

  14. [quote=scchasgal;22808661]Has this question come up because of Carnival's changes this week?

No, it's just that I always wonder after handing over my luggage to the porters if I should have locked our luggage or not.

Thank you to everyone for your replies. The cable ties are a very good idea, I think we will use these in April.

To Luvmybear; I don't put any thing of value in our luggage, and like everyone else I carry it on the ship or plane. I was just wondering how the cruise lines feel about this and what others have done. Plus, I just don't want someone to have the temptation of looking through our bags.

  15. I am scheduled to cruise in April on the Star, this will be my first cruise with NCL but my 5th cruise all together. My question is how many cruisers actually lock up their luggage before embarking? I never have and haven't lost anything but I was just wondering if we should? Or if the cruise lines prefer you not to?
