  1. We live near Newport and visit often. Please note, sections of the Cliff Walk are still closed due to heavy damage from Hurricane Sandy. Here is one of the many articles you can read about it. http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/01/15/cliff-walk-preliminary-damage-estimate/rXEr8rzC2SEha1qtgVFe9K/story.html Huge bill to foot, but I can not imagine the city letting it take to long to repair as it is a draw (though they collect no direct funds from its use as it is a right-of-way.)

There is so much to do in the town, and the tenders drop you off right in the middle of most of it. The mansions are great to see, especially if it is raining. Also, check the Newport Tourist website for special events, like sailing (Americas Cup events), and some of the many other things to do. If you are really adventerous, I recommend checking to see if there is a Providence Water Fire (waterfire.org) on the day your ship pulls into Boston or Providence - consider spending the night at the event and meeting the ship at the next port - the cities are an hour away from one another by car.

  2. I always buy it when leaving the country, but from an independent broker, INSUREMYTRIP I bring up the web page, and then call them on the phone. Together, we figure out the best option for my scenario. Tip - closer you book to your deposit date, the better off you are and costs less while covering you longer. Factor in everything from lost luggage to hotels, air, and after the trip too.

Biggest advantage is the cancel for any reason clause - without that, the insurance is not worth it for me. Next, the medical reimbursement (after you file claim with your primary coverage, you can collect the rest from them as a secondary.) Paying $750 for a sea sick shot on one cruise, primary paid 2/3s, they covered the rest.

Missed flights, lost luggage, it only takes one experience to wish you had it. Resellers like INSUREMYTRIP will direct you to policies that suit your needs.

  3. How much are the childrens soda packets. Can you get adults packages and if not how much is it for a beer or a lager as we say in the uk.

    From what I am told..

Child Rate Per Day $4.50 (17 years of age and younger)

Adult Rate Per Day $6.00 (18 years of age and older)

Liquor prices via the Bon Voyage (beer prices same as on ship) must call the Bon Voyage to get these delivered to your room. You can order 4 bottles. http://www.zydecocruiser.net/menus/bv_liquor.htm offers info and a price list.

Can you dine anytime or do you have set times and is there a buffet if you dont want to use the restaurant.

Early, late and Any time seating available, as are special restaurant and the buffet. Or, grab a pizza and eat on the deck!

Also can you bring drinks onto the ship with you.

You can bring 1 bottle of 750ml wine with you per adult, as well as "reasonable amounts of non-alcohol, unopened bottles or cans" but these must be in carry on luggage. We bring 1 bottle of wine, 1 12pk, 1 case water per adult.

Is there lots for the kids to do. We are doing the mexico route is it nice. Thanks Diane.

    Yes, tons.

Every time I see the picture of the chess board on this ship, it is set up wrong! "White in the right, queen on her color"... okay, I am done.

Great review, love the pics, taking my notes and the food pics look appetizing, Thanks for taking the time to articulate, really enjoying it!

  5. Another note - the pool deck next to the H2O Zone is EXTREMELY slippery. All 4 of my kids slipped and fell at least once, and I nearly took a spill (a few times!) while carrying the little guy and walking over to the bathroom. We complained at guest services. They're all aware of the slipperiness, and they always have a cone up saying it's slippery, and there are people sweeping the water and drying it up... On the last afternoon, my 10 year old slipped and fell pretty bad, crying, saying her back hurt. My husband took her to guest services, they filled out an accident report and she saw the ship's doctor at no charge. It was "just a bruise", but that was Saturday, and it's Tuesday now, and she is still quite sore.

We just got off the same sailing and thought the same thing - $1.5 Billion dollar boat and they can not make a non-slip surface which was not scorching hot? And it was only in that area which was really bad. The rest of the decks were just really hot. Lost track of how many times people slipped there.
