Hi cle-guy ... I am considering doing this - booking for 2 people at the GTY rate and then only 1 turning up. Have you heard of any pitfalls of doing this? Is there a thread about no shows of this kind?

You are probably better going on a final voyage rather than a maiden voyage, where there can be all sorts of problems.

I am in New Zealand and have previously booked Celebrity via online US TA's.

I was checking some prices yesterday and came across one US TA that stated that TA's in the USA are no longer allowed to quote Celebrity, Azamara and Royal Caribbean cruises to customers outside USA/Canada.

Does anyone have any recent experience of this?

Yes I noticed earlier this year that they are no longer making an allowance for the port charges before applying the surcharge.

The standard single supplement has been 200% for a while, but now if the two person rate is $1000 a solo passenger will pay $2000. Previously, had the port charges been $200 the solo fare would have been $1800.

Many other cruise lines do this - not that I think that makes it right. It is just a way of getting more money out of a solo cruiser.

While checking a US based online TA the other day that lists cruises with reduced single supplements I noticed that a wide range of Azamara cruises are being offered with a single supplement of between 7% and 17%. These reduced supplements are available on a much wider range of cruises than those currently offered at 25%.

This deal seems to be for Inside cabins only and cannot be combined with the Double Upgrade offer, so you don't get a balcony cabin for a 7% supplement over the Inside price!!

I did a quick check on one cruise on the US Azamara site and the rate is showing there.

I have no idea how long this deal will last but it is a great deal if you are happy with an Inside cabin.

I've also noticed of late that fewer Tuesday special sailings are offered to solo travelers at less than 200%

Did you look at the cost of upgrading to a 2B? The difference is often not too much.
