This is what we were wanting to hear! Thanks for posting. We get on her on the 13th to Hawaii. :D
my pleasure…with over 20 cruises on princess we have always enjoyed good service, but the Star crew was outstanding….
we rarely do the specialty restaurants but tried the crab shack…it was so good we returned a second time…our 2nd time in hawaii..it was awesome.
enjoy and have a safe cruise!

Have a GREAT cruise and thanks for the report!
PS: i enjoy your writing style and sense of humor….
-
Thanks for the report! we were n her just before dry dock and enjoyed every minute…what a GREAT crew….
have a safe journey and look forward to your reports.

There are very few two-top tables in the HC, at least on the Grand-class ships. We prefer not to make small talk with strangers while eating, so try to eat there at off-peak times so we aren't taking the last larger table available :).
i agree with you 100% ….
we also try to go during non-busy times and look for the smallest table available….. we like our time together and privacy while eating…
what confuses me ?... when the tables in horizon court are only half full, and someone comes up and wants to share the table ….to allow for the "whats your name and where you from" discussion.
-
to the original poster…were you upset with the guy in a track suit and the people wearing shorts because of their behavior, or because of their attire?
i know you mentioned it was formal night….it doesn't sound like the folks you described were in a dining room (in fact "coming from the horizon court").
Do you think shorts and casual attire are not appropriate anywhere on the ship on formal nights?
-
if someone previously suggested this …. i apologize in advance….but i feel compelled to ask….
Steve….. once on board…. if you get a minute….. can you pontificate via a "live from" about the on board cruise experience? that would certainly be an interesting exercise!
Although i disagree with 99% of your opinions and we probably would not be compatible table mates...
i would be willing to pitch in a donation for the internet minutes that would be required for you to keep us informed.
have a safe journey

Take a look at Budget car rental….they are across the street from the port on the 17th st. causeway in a shopping center….2 times a year we drop off a rental there before boarding the ship …. then we pick one up there after the cruise for the ride home ( a real plus living in florida!)….it is much cheaper than paying for parking at the port….depending on where your ship is actually docked at the port it may be an easy walk after you drop your luggage off….or they do have a free shuttle to/from the ship if you aren't docked near the causeway bridge…the service and employees are always great there….
have a safe trip

Would love to hear why. Will be visiting next month on Regal. What did you do, where did you go? Any pictures?
Thanks :)
we first discovered the island on a one day stop off the old NCL Norway many years ago…liked it so much we started going back for a week at a time for many years…then my wife ...against my will, dragged me kicking and pouting (in a manly way) to Paris ….well now... it is France every April for the month so we haven't been back to St. Martin….the character of st martin is unique in that its half french and half dutch …it is run down in some areas but has incredible beaches, including a clothing optional one on the french side which draws ton of cruise ship passengers.
at the end of the cruise dock you can rent a car for the day and drive around the island yourself for $50….plenty of roadside good food, $1 beer joints and the occasional goat in the roadway….local drivers there drive like they are in a nascar race….leave yourself tons of extra time to get back to the cruise ship as traffic is VERY heavy on the main road around the island….have a safe journey...
-
Princess usually adjust the ship time to match the local time.
thats been our experience also…good question ! have a safe voyage, St. martin is a hoot.
-
yes the star did serve at least one mexican dinner in the buffet during the 2 week cruise….. we were pleasantly surprised by the very good quality. compared to other princess ships it was the best.
have a safe and enjoyable journey.
-
we too just got off the star princess last week as it headed to dry dock…great trip, great ship, and as always a GREAT princess crew. DONT miss the crab shack. if you like crab and shrimp, its an excellent value for $20.
have a safe cruise!

2 years ago we spent the month of March in Paris and it was cold and snowed more than once…as the month progressed, it got more tolerable….but heck…. its Paris!! it was still wonderful!
Last year we spent the last week of March on a river cruise followed by the month of April in Paris….it was wonderful and warmer! Although cool (by our Florida standards) it was well worth not fighting the summer time crowds. we are doing the same again this year….my wife literally had to drag me to Paris the first time….now it is our favorite destination, with not even a close second…..have a safe journey.

Hi we are currently in Kaui Hawaii on the star …heading back to San francisco tomorrow….the ship is going into dry dock next week before the cruise over Christmas….it is a great ship with an even better crew….it is showing some rust here and there on the balconies but i am guessing that will be touched up in dry dock…i imagine somebody will bitch about that but it no a big deal…make sure you try the crab shack if you enjoy lobster and crab…for $ 20 bucks it is WELL worth it…..
We have been on a bunch of cruises with princess but first time in a caribe deck balcony…we tried one ….based on reports here…i wish i hadn't….now we are hooked on them and my attempts to convince my wife that lido deck inside rooms are just fine are not working…if you are looking at a balcony try one on caribe…they are larger and half covered…..
-
So, why is the kind of deck furniture important to you?
Ya know….i really don't think it is any of your business. Nor do i care about your size and weight from your prior post.
Rich, the original poster, did a great report and offered to answer our questions…he has been very generous with his time and responses…
You are not Rich the OP, perhaps your name is Dick?
-
LOL re: type of furniture is on the balcony deck? Seriously?
I weigh 400 pounds and have no issue with the deck chairs.
and the purpose of you posting this is what?
-
Hi Rich, thanks for the great review….we leave on the Star this sunday for hawaii…our first time in a caribe deck big balcony…looking at pics from other folks i still can't figure out what type of furniture is on the deck…can you advise what you had?…thanks much!
-
Thanks for all the positive comments.
I will wear them next cruise.
if i am on the same ship with you i would be honored to by you a drink…thank you for your service to our country. have safe journey.

Absolutely the most outstanding tour of the dozens we have ever taken out the last 10 years…..we would have been more than satisfied if the cost was double what we paid…..
-
we are flying from florida to san francisco in 3 weeks to cruise on the star princess…that means 3 time zone changes while on the aircraft… delta air lines doesn't have clocks on each bulkhead and now i am becoming verclipt
-
OP here; so glad to see this thread revived! We are less than a week away from our sailing, & it's good to keep reading Star pointers. Lunch in the MDR on embarkation day sounds great. After studying the deck plans in more depth, I realize that the Star is more like the previous Princess ships we've sailed, Crown & Emerald, than I thought. Really psyched about our cruise. I hope that the shrimp served on the Star are as good as those on our last Princess cruise on Emerald, because they were the best I've ever had! :D:D
Rich, if you get a chance please once on board can you share your thoughts with us…we will be on board later this November…
we can't wait! have a safe journey, terry

Well unless it is blocked on a ship, if I have paid for internet time, then it is up to me how I use it. Would not dream of telling anyone else that they should or should not be accessing the internet on a ship in any way that is allowed.

i agree with Bob and Pam on this….the opinion stated in quote above is just another example of why we ask for a table for 2 at dinner….
-
Thanks so much for taking the time to post your thoughts…we board the Star P. in 5 weeks for Hawaii (gotta fly from florida…uugghh) and your report has been most enjoyable to read…..

I really didn't mean to be snide. I simply stated what River Cruising is about. It is a communal activity. If that is not what you appreciate then River Cruising is not for you. It's best to know beforehand. Simply put there is no privacy on River Cruises. You can sit in your cabin but there is no room service and each dinner is served in unison.
sure sounded "snide " to me…
please show me the term "communal activity" in river cruising advertising…
i have found private spots on both our river cruises….and we enjoyed them...
finally, i am not in a position to opine on who river cruising is suitable for, but i probably would pass on river cruising if i thought your "Communal activity" was accurate...

GREAT move Princess! thanks
