  1. If Quantum goes to Asia, will she be doing this year around ?

Which ship will then do New York<->Carib ?

Anthem will be in Europe and partly in EU.

I guess it is water proof meanwhile that S3 is coming, I see it listed in Wiki for mid 2016.

So I guess RCCL does aim to balance the 3 ships between New York/Carib, EU and Asia.

Is Oasis 3's itinerary meanwhile fixed ? I guess on of the 3 Oasis ships will also blend into EU.

    How about China ?

I'm very positively astonished that RCCL opens that much into other markets, other than the carib. :D

Carib. is nice, but once in a while ...

  2. iam just trying to figure out why the whole comparison to NCL is all about?

I'm comparing a lot these days. Priorly I have been only interested in RCCL. I talked with people from other ships I met and what I heard was mainly towards that for me RCCL is the right choice (it is much about personal taste and preferance) .

Now that I have been on quite a few RCCL ship types, including Oasis+Allure ... I did not get wowed yet by Quantum. Maybe this will happen still somewhen.

I do hope that Oasis 3 (or 4?) might bring some new innovations that they have on Quantum... to combine the ships size with RCCLs nice, recent innovations.

So, I'm actively comparing RCCL with other cruise lines and ships. Given the prices of Quantum, I will first try some other ships of other cruise lines till the prices come down. I do like that RCCL now also cruises more and more to new, non-Carib. destinations.

Maybe I will find out that RCCL is and was the very best for my personal taste.

Bottom line: 1 year ago I could not image trying anything else. Now I'm booked on Aida in Jan/2015 with more to come in 2015 ...

  3. Date is correct on the German version.

Interesting how fast they are... but once the major blocks are in place there is still lot to do in a cruise ship.

I would like to be able to push the cam further to its right to be able to see Anthem :D

Does anyone have any insightse, e.g. pics, there ?

Smog: I assume that the webcam is not compareable to a high res cam and therefore it may look like smog. Plus along heavy construction there is always dust in combination with smog created by steel work ... but as German health regulations are pretty big, I would not worry too much.

  4. But why then adding a '+'/Plus ?

Plus tells me either that the 3rd one is a bigger or a special one or that there is more than the 3rd one to come which is not decided yet...

I have googled a little bit ... and found a Meyer link:

The new Breakaway Ship is titled 'Breakaway-Plus' ... somehow they use the term "Plus" to indicate that it is something special and bigger ...

  5. Dear Cruise-Lovers,

on Wikipedia Meyer's future ships are listed and one line says

    Projekt „Quantum 3 +"

What does the Plus mean ? I would not be asking, but explicitely there are those inverted commas around it ?

Does it mean that they would be able to again do 3 (=signed) in parallel to 4 same as currently 1+2 ?

Are more info on this, deadlines for options etc. ... ?

Sorry if I missed something there.

    Best regards

    ;-)

  6. Dear Cruise Critics,

we will be on Oasis in early May and are planning to stay in either Miami or FortLauderdale prior to the cruise.

As we are more into apartment type rentals these days, we are looking for a nice apartment, being not too far aways from anything, having a kitchen (we love to cook our own breakfirst, including heating of rolls) and ideally wireless lan as well as parking. Pricing should not be way above 120USD per bedroom.

We have searched ourselves already as well as been in one (Shamrock Rentals), but wanted to kindly ask if anybody has some good ideas for us ? Shamrock is nice but you never know ... maybe somebody has a nice idea or experience to share.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards

    Christian

  7. Tonnage shall be around 227.700 BRZ ie slightly bigger than sister ships (225.282 BRZ), as well as she is said to have 64 more passengers (max. 6360) by adding some more cabins being slightly longer in total size...

Most likely I think the rest will be 1:1, except the degree of difference the Oasis and Allure have.

Rest still seems to be speculation.

  8. Dear Cruise-Critics,

I was on BoS last week...

There was no charge for towels, which I was told will be rolled out fleet wide.

This resulted in any chair being reserved immediately, on some days starting at 5AM.

People take their towels everywhere (incl. whirlpool, on excursions dumping it there etc.). Leaving a deck chair for good NOBODY brings back the towels. Some who tend to bring it back, dump the towels on deck chairs that already have towels on while being on their way out...

I asked the deck patrol guy to enforce the deck chair reservation policy... nothing happend, other that deck patrol was cleaning stuff most of the day.

Some deck chairs had towels on all day, fully untouched, resulting in having a hard time to find an empty spot.

I had an open word with the guy handing out towels. He is well aware of these issues and finds it a petty. He many times told his manager but nothing happens. On top he confirmed the no-longer charging for towel thing.

Did I miss those drastic changes ?

The towel policy (and alcohol policy, see my other thread) are the important things for me that make me booking RCCL over and over and avoid e.g. Carnival.

We were kind of disappointed and now, having 8 RCCL-only cruises, intend to book our first non-RCCL cruise.

Thank you for your feedback and regards

    Christian

  9. From RCCL website:

: "Guests are not allowed to bring beer, hard liquor or non-alcoholic beverages onboard for consumption or any other use. ..."

Does this say that you are NOT allowed to bring anything that you can drink on board ?

I just left BoS and was able to bring my mineral water (with bubbles) and my own orange juice (to consume during breakfirst in Windjammer).

My bags were inspected and after checking I was allowed to keep the water as well as the juice.

So was I just lucky ?

I can hardly believe that non-alcoholic is also on the no-go list!

  10. Just got off BoS end of last week. Talked to several RCCL employees in MDR, in Izumi, in Windjammer etc.. Here is a summary of the gossip I collected:

    1. No MDR
I would rate this higher than gossip as it got confirmed by multiple sources on BoS independently. There will be kind of a dine-around concept - similar to Disney - where you are assigned to a different restaurant. Which options, preferences one has, which food is served where - no answers, simply smiles on faces.
This makes perfect sense to me and would be a logical step.
But as I learned about other gossip (e.g. my gossip about a split structure on QoS being confirmed to me while being on Legend) ... gossip is gossip.
    2. Teppanjaki
Talking to the chefs at Izumi they told us that there would have been called by a colleague if they would be interested to move to a Teppanjaki type restaurant on QoS, which they denied. So not being interested cut their info flow. They are not sure if an Izumi will be on QoS.

    Best regards

    ;-)

  11. Dear CruiseCritics,

I hope I did not miss a thread that could answer this:

We are on the BoS on 4th of Jan 2014 having a comfort balcony (D2). In other threads I read that they upgraded e.g. to a Junior for only $30 ?!

Can you see the prices online ? Or is this only possible during boarding ?

Where do you ask when ?

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards

    Christian

  12. Quantum is not "a larger ship". That would be Oasis class. Quantum class is just a smidge larger than Freedom class, which currently homeports out of Port Canaveral, as you know. :)

Good point! So that proves that at least one Oasis class shall come to Port Canaveral, maybe not as a permanent home port yet and maybe as being partly in Europe and/or Asia (not only as going to DryDock).

  13. Dear Cruise Critics,

has been a while I took a detailed look at Oasis... but since my next Oasis cruise is only about 7 months ahead ... :D:cool:

On RCCLs German website there is an interesting Eagle view of the Oasis:

    http://www.royalcaribbean.de/schiffe/oasis-of-the-seas.htm

I'm wondering what these "light blue areas" next to the smoke pipes / solar pannels are ?

Wasn't able to find a closer pic ... Are they heating water with sun or are those crew pools?

    Thank you and regards

    ;-)

  14. Name:

Didn't RCCL register the following names:

    • Ovation of the Seas
    • Passion of the Seas
    • Pulse of the Seas

Vantage of the Seas was also registered but got dropped meanwhile, didn't it ?

This would leave at least two names being unused... currently ?! I do hope they bring out further new ships rather than dropping additional names.

  15. Dear Cruise Critic Fans,

I hope I did not oversee anything... I'm trying to obtain updates around Oasis 3.

Any updates, especially on the following:

    1. Name (confirmed) ?
    2. Building progress
I guess there is no Web-Cam or STX site showing any progress pics ?
    3. Home port and/or routes ?
I assume that the Anthem might go to Europe, so that Oasis 3 might remain in Carib. giving the possibility to have one Oasis move to Asia and/or Europe, at least part-time.
    4. Difference to Oasis and Allure
We all know the size and cabine number updates. How about restaurants, additional features ? Or simply more cabins ?

    Can't wait :D

    Thank you in advance.

  16. Ok, thanx.

Honestly: Isn't being on a cruise with BoS on your birthday a very nice birthday surprise itself ? :D

PS Well, having Oasis class sailing and now that the Quantum is being built, the leveling board is more challenging ... ;)

PPS I know where I will be in Jan 2015 (once the prices got reasonable) ;-)

    PPPS Thank you: RCCL!

  17. Dear fellow cruisers,

most likely I will be able to spend my birthday on BoS ...

I tried to see if there are any benefits, specials or or or ... but all I could find was:

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/experience/html.do?exCode=631

which reads like that they can help you to organize your party etc.

Hope that I did not miss anything.

Also do hope that the link above is ok.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards

    ;)
