Sherri, I hope someone in the family sits get down & lets her know how she screwed her grandpa.

Well, she has nothing to do with the rest of us.  Won’t answer her phone for a call or text.  I am hoping she comes to my Dad’s 90 birthday party as I am sure we all will have something to say.😂

Sherri, does your Dad realize what she did?

Yes and no.  She would go to him requesting money for attorney fees, court fees, etc for a legal case she was involved in.  He would write a check on his account, many checks were for $1500 and up.  What I don’t think he realized is often this happened and how much it was adding up to. I think many times, he does not even remember doing it.

Sherri, Is there someone looking after your dad's finances now? Sorry to hear your dad was taken advantage of.

Next month, I have back to back trips. I'll be in Cape Cod for a week and the following week, I'm going on a Canada/NE cruise.  No more trips until December.

Yes, my oldest brother is now a co-signer on the account.  Dad is not happy about that!😂

Karin had been given the ok to go to Hawaii!!  She has a waterproof brace & a waterproof knee cover. Doc said her incision is healing much better than expected. She can’t swim but we’ll stand in the water. Les & I leave Thursday for Vegas & on to Hawaii on Friday. Everyone else is on a flight Friday.  Melody.

Well, that is good news for your family! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Melody - wish the daughter good luck with the surgery!!

Sherri - I'm really upset to hear about the money issues you dad is in.  Someone taking advantage of an elder is really nasty.  I hope there was some paperwork on the "loan."

OOTD:  a hot and sneezy day (darn cottonwoods).  my denim shorts and a Pact organic cotton tank top.

It was not any type of loan, Kat.  He wrote her a check from a money market type account whenever she needed something.  My parents both gave her money whenever she needed it.  According to my brother, his account is almost completely wiped out but, fortunately, he gets a monthly pension so he is not destitute.

And I expect you’d have gotten one from RCI If your RCI status had changed.  RCI knows you were informed of the new loyalty matching program by two corporate partners.  Plus there info about the program on the Internet, which you well know as evidenced by this thread.  What more could an RCI email add?

We received three emails from Royal, one from Celebrity and zero from Silverseas🤣

Hi girls, I am in the middle of trying to decide about a cruise for later this year. I have a Caribbean cruise booked for December but not sure I want to do the Caribbean again.

I am looking at 2 other options. Melissa, I am looking at a 2 week cruise starting in Auckland ending in Melbourne. I have never been to your part of the world before. I know it is supposed to be awesome! I also know it is a long, long flight.

And my other option is a 14 night TA CROSSING from Lisbon to Ft. Lauderdale. Much shorter flight. But of course 2 totally different type of cruises.

Both Australia and New Zealand are amazing and even though the flight is a killer, it is worth it!  I loved Auckland and Melbourne is amazing  as well, my vote would be for this cruise!

I know I'm in the minority on this one but I prefer the "Cheers" setup.  I always felt sorry for the junior officer who drew the short straw and had to sit with a bunch of strangers and engage in small talk.  You could tell that they would rather be ANYwhere else.  Now they just come in, say a few words, and they're off to do their real work and leave us in peace to have whatever has been given to us to eat !  Recently I have found the menu to be fine....not great, but good enough.

Agree with you!  We had an IT manager at our table once and it was obviously a painful experience for him.  He seemed very shy and uncomfortable.  Funny,  he got a phone call about halfway through lunch, left the table to answer it, came back and apologized that he had to leave.  I guess there was an IT emergency🤣

I do miss sitting with the different officers - learned a lot about life working on a ship, sharing cruise stories and how educated and informed they are - very professional. I think some of the officers enjoyed the filet & lobster versus Jammer and mess food.

I enjoyed it also and while I think some of the officers may have enjoyed the food (wow, you got lobster?)and maybe even an opportunity to meet passengers, I really think most of them do not miss it.  I will be surprised if they ever go back to it.

I can answer that next week as we are on our first cruise as Zenith.

The Pinnacle lunch menu has been inconsistent over the fleet. Sometimes it is great with very good choices (filet) and others not so good. Many times the luncheon has Diamond+ added because the P numbers were low. Once upon a time the lunch was held in a specialty restaurant and we sat with an officer at each table - now with the "Cheers with a Officer" it has been in the MDR and the officers disappear after the toast. Covid was blamed - so what is the excuse now???

    8 minutes ago, nelblu said:

This was due to Covid as you mentioned.  On one of my Anthem sails, the Captain mentioned that they were hoping that an Officer would be able to sit at table with members, as in past.

Yes, that comment was repeated frequently when the lunch was changed to Cheers with an Officer after cruising resumed but I have not heard any officer mention that in our last 6 cruises.  My theory is it will remain Cheers as the majority of the officers do not miss the lunch part.😂

Hi Sherri, I must have missed your post

So sorry about your Dad......it is so hard.....the children turn into the parents and parents are now the children. Hope things get better.

Thanks, Lois.  He is talking moving now,  but we’ve been going through his bank statements and have discovered he has given a grand daughter, someone who has made many bad (stupid) decisions in her life,  over $70,000 for legal issues during the past couple of years.  He has almost depleted his money market account which leaves not enough for assisted living until he sells.  We were hoping we could move him first and then get the house on the market.  I hope I don’t make things difficult for my sons when they have to parent me!

Hope you are continuing to feel better, Lois!

Well, Karin is having the surgery tomorrow morning. Doc told her waiting  two more weeks would make a harder recovery. We did get a wheelchair today & she feels free again. It’s very lightweight & manuverable. She’s still hopeful of going to Hawaii next week & have it just be a relaxing time with sunrises & sunsets & cocktails & pushes on the beach boardwalk & lots of family time. (We’ll plan on another trip for snorkeling & swimming when we’re both healed). I also can’t do anything but float, no snorkeling or swimming for me. Melody

I hope everything goes well with the surgery.  The hardest thing for me after my knee surgery was sitting for longer periods as it would cause my knee to stiffen and be extremely painful trying to bend it.  Years later, I still have to move my knee frequently to avoid or minimize this.

  13. We just got back from Minneapolis last night, spent the weekend with our grandson graduating from high school. 844 students in his class but they managed to give out the diplomas in about 1 hour! Our son flew in from Australia so we had some time with him as well.

Flight back yesterday was intersting, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people coughing and sneezing on a plane before. Including me!  I have evidently come home with an upper respiratory infection, so I am feeling your pain, Lois!  I hope you are feel better soon!

Melody, I am thinking you and family have had enough health issues and all deserve a vacation.  I have to agree with Kat, I would hold off on the surgery until after the trip.

I am feeling your pain too, Cynthia  as we are dealing an older parent too.  My dad needs to go into assisted living but refuses to leave his house.  He will be 90 in September and is mentally gong downhill. Latest issue is he made a mess of his bank account, my brother had to take it over and pay bills, etc.  Now dad is accusing him of trying to steal Dad’s money.  This is very difficult for my brother as he was always the favorite child who could never do wrong in my father”s eyes.   Fun times for my siblings!

I cannot believe some of these responses!!

There has been linen under our beds on almost every cruise we have taken in the past few years. We just move it over and still have plenty of room for our suitcases.

If it is there I can guarantee it is because of a direct order the steward has been given. They don’t put it under there just to aggravate you because I am sure they love to hear you rant!!

But for some of you “demanding” it be removed or tossing it out in the hall is just shameful and disrespectful and using this as an excuse to take away tips just because you didn’t get your way is just unbelievable!!!

I agree with you, linens/comforters have been under the bed for a long time and we still manage to get two large suitcases under the bed.  Demanding and tossing it out in the hallway is just wrong.  The stewards are doing what they have been told to do.

Over the last two years we have booked and payed the BOGO on day one but used it much later in the week. We have done this on Ovation, Quantum and Navigator.  There has never been any difficulty in reserving for later in the week.

That has been true for us to until our last cruise on Adventure.  They would not allow us to book and pay but use later in the week.  This meant that we could only use one of our BOGOs as we could not get a reservation for the second night.

Its not automatic, you have to hit the link in the email.  All I did and says 7 days to they confirm the status match.  It might be a mess in the beginning getting all enrolled overall but it will eventually be worked out and clarified I would hope

Ours was automatic, I noticed we were suddenly Zenith when I logged into our celebrity account last night. I thought it was a mistake until I read the email announcing the merger.

  17. We were just there May 17 and it was working.  This was one of the few times I have seen it actually going up.

$90? Per person?😳 I would not pay more than $10 to $15pp to take my grandkids up,  my husband said they could probably convince him to do $20😂.

  18. Great picture!  Your dad’s outfit made me laugh, I’m pretty sure my dad had a similar pair of pants!  Which girl is you?  I’m thinking the one in red shorts?

We did a lot of camping when our boys were younger as it was the only way we could afford to travel.  We did primitive camping, tents, sleeping bags and no electricity.

    I don’t camp now.🤣

We went to REI Saturday and got trekking poles for the hubby. We're starting to hike for Yellowstone in October (brrr) and he needed some. I still need a day pack, water bladder, and new boots (mine are at least 15 years old). Last week, we did an easy 1.3 mile trail twice. Today, we bumped up to a moderate 2.8 mile trail that didn't feel as challenging, but my calves are telling me about it. We want to build up to about 10 or so miles by October. We're going to local parks twice a week now, and are planning a couple of fall trips to the NC mountains before then.

That will be a great trip, Christy!  We drove to Yellowstone from Indiana  with our three sons back in 1990.  No hotels, just did primitive camping for two weeks and hiked all over the park.  One of our best trips ever! Yellowstone is beautiful!
