  1. I took a quick look through my pics and I do not think I have any

Which bed did your kids think was more comfortable, the pull out couch or the bed that came out of the wall? When both were pulled out, did it basically form a solid wall of bed along the window/balcony access?

I'm considering this room for my mother, myself, my sister and my teenage cousin for a Bermuda cruise next summer.

  2. -Did you find the need to carry any local currency?

We took US dollars/guide gave us Egyptian $ when needed.

-What time did you arrive to the hotel after the pyramids, and what time does the light/sound show start? How much was it, and who arranged getting you to/from the show?We went to pyramids at Giza, Sakkara & Memphis first day, left ship at 7:00-730am and checked in to hotel around 6pm.

Didn't attend sound & light show but did see lights from room & could hear some of the sound.

-The mummy room at the museum is not part of the included costs correct? How much extra was it, and how much time should be alotted to see it? The mummy room was $ money. Go to museum's website-we paid as we entered-handed money to guide and he took care of it. A couple of hours for museum-mummy room 1/2 hour. Check out the museum giftshop.

-Did you have to arrange for your own dinner at the hotel? Yes, it wasn't busy so we just went at 7m. The hotel's website shows menus. I had lasagna (did not like meat in it), DH had a stew/seafood choice which he liked and we had shrimp dish. Bottled water. Pita bread. Be careful what you eat-people did get sick after eating in Egypt. What are the choices at the hotel?

-What types of food were offered at the lunches? I'm not super adventerous when it comes to ethnic food, so I'd like to know what to expect. Lunch for us was near Sakkara-outdoor place. Grilled meats-chicken, beef. Dips-hummus etc. pita. Water. Appetizers.

-Did you find the papyrus institute to be really tourist-y, or was it ok for souviner shopping.

-what time did your guide meet you when you first got off the ship (compared to when the ship was scheduled to arrive)? I can't get a straight answer from David. We started down at 7:00am and got off shortly after. Samir, our guide and driver were waiting right at gate with our name on a sign.

Hope this helps. Enjoy yourselves, watch what you eat/drink there, and stay out of crowds.

Thank you for the helpful responses.:)

  3. Terry (manoftheworld),

Thank you for posting about your wonderful trip. We will be taking the same excursion in November with a group of 10 (same hotel as well), so I have a few questions for you:

Sorry, that ended up being a lot of questions :)

  4. I've been bidding 3.5+ for the past few months trying to get the Sheraton OSJ. I would always start at $80 then work up to $100+, but never won anything. I chaulked it up to the Spring Break/Easter travelers. This morning I tried again started at $85, and got a reply requesting that I increase to $110. I figured why not considering all my past tries, and it came back saying I had won the Carib Hilton. I was hoping for the Sheraton OSJ simply for the ease of sightseeing all day, but the Hilton would have been my second choice, and given that it is a resort I'm sure it will be worth it. We probably won't get to enjoy the resort to the full extinct since we are getting in to town late Thursday night, and plan to spend all day Friday exploring OSJ, but we'll make the best of our time there.

  5. I'm a priceline virgin, but after reading this board I decided to give it a try. I would really like to get Sheraton Old San Juan for 2 nights. I followed all the instructions from the recent posts, but after a few trys I did not want to go any higher. I will try back over the next couple of days.

I wanted to ask if there was such thing as an "ideal" time period to submit bids during the day, that might be more likely to be accepted. I know plane flights tend to be cheaper in the middle of the day, so I wanted to see if there was something similar with hotels.

  6. I'm attempting to create a do it yourself version of a RCI tour titled St. John Eco Hike and Beach, but I need some help filling in the pieces from what the tour description leaves out. The description says the trail starts at the Visitor Center and leads to Honeymoon Beach, then to Caneel Bay's colorful Botanical Gardens and to the ruins of a sugar plantation. Is this the Lind Point Trail? How would you describe this hiking trail, easy/moderate/strenuous? Are there many scenic outlooks on the way? Is Honeymoon Beach also known as Salomon Bay (looking on a map this is the only beach I see labeled between Cruz Bay and Caneel)? Would we be able to access the beach directly from the trail to cool off and lounge around? Are the Botanical Gardens nice to tour? What is the name of the plantation ruins and is there an entrance fee? Are there taxis readily available in this area to take us back to Cruz Bay? The tour description says the duration is 4 hrs which includes the ferry rides and time on the beach, so I'm guessing this hike would be plenty doable on your own with plenty of time to explore and not feel rushed. We will be on the Serenade of the Seas in port from 8am-6pm. Lot's of questions I know, but I'm trying to determine if this would be a worthwhile excursion option. Any input would be appreciated :)
