  1. anyone able to get adipex? script needed and approx. cost?

    thanks

    Michael

I think adipex the same as phentermine. If so, in May 2015 you needed a script in Cozumel. One place would sell it under the counter, but they wanted $85 so I passed.

  2. We just finished a road trip from CA to MI, and except for Reno we had free internet at every hotel for 10 days. Even the one way up in the Black Hills of SD!

My experiences are similar to yours. I travel quite a bit for business and leisure, staying mostly at Hilton, Marriott, IGH and Hyatt properties and I don't remember paying for wifi anytime recently.

  3. Thanks for your review. We will be boarding at the end of the month. I have a couple of questions:

    1. What were the $12 drinks that you enjoyed?

    2. Were there any drinks of note, other than the cognac, that were more than $12?

    3. Did you have any trouble getting bottled water with your drink package? Was bottled water available at all the bars?

    4. Did you eat at any specialty restaurants?

    5. Was Maya Key crowded? What are the chance we might be able to find a spot with a lounger in the shade for DH and in the sun for me? We are in the first boat going over. How was the snorkeling?

OK - That's more than a couple of questions. :o Thanks for your help! :)

  4. We will see if they come back for consolation or suggestions, or just joined the forum to vent and bad publicity.

I'm not one who has a problem when people do that. It is after all Cruise Critic. When people are upset and looking to vent is often times when they stumble on CC for the first time. They post their complaint not realizing the flaming they may be opening themselves up to. There are many times when I don't blame them for not coming back.

  5. Thank you!

Do you happen to remember how much your imitrex cost? My preferred med for migraines is maxalt (rizatriptan) but my insurance will not cover it, and will only give me four imitrex per month. I'll be checking for both when I'm there in December.

Overall it sounds like the 'good ol' days' of cheaper meds in Cozumel are over. :\

Wow - only 4 per month. That's not good. I can get 9 per month. I fill my prescription every month, whether I need to or not.

We were in Cozumel and Costa Maya in May 2015 and the new prescription rules had already gone into effect at that time. I could get Retin A anywhere however it cost much more than it use to. When I first started buying it in Mexico is was about $13/tube. Last year the cheapest I could find it was $38 /tube. Still cheaper than US since it is not covered by insurance. I buy several tubes and keep them in the fridge. The expiration dates are marked on the boxes. Phentermine (diet pill) used to be available without prescription in Mexico for about $30 for 30 pills. Now you need a prescription. I did find one pharmacy that was willing to sell it without a prescription, but they wanted $85.

When do you sail? I will be in Belize and Cozumel the first week of Sept. I will look at the migraine meds and see how much they are.

  6. Reminds me of when we were in Cozumel once on May 5th. We thought there would be Cinco de Mayo celebrations happening everywhere. Nope - locals didn't know what we were talking about.

If you only want to pay taxi and entry fee, I recommend either Chankanaab or Punta Sur. But both of these will be more expensive than just buying the food minimum at Paradise Beach, or buying a drink each at Money Bar or Mr. Sanchos.

Going to Chankanaab with the entrance fee (I think it is currently $21 pp), there is no obligation to buy any food or drink at all. The beach there is very nice, and there are some other things to see in the lovely park.

Punta Sur is a lovely beach, and the entry fee is $14 per person; no food or drink minimum required, I believe. As the name implies, it is very far south, so the cab ride will be more expensive.

I would also recommend Chankanaab. It is not too far from the ship and has one of he more beautiful beaches on the island. If you get off the ship early and grab a taxi directly there, you will beat all of the cruise ship excursions. Once in the park, go to the left and walk down the beach. You will have your choice of palapas, and if you walk far enough, the excursion people will never come down there. Even when the excursions arrive, the park is so large that it doesn't feel very crowded. There are lots of taxis waiting to take you back to the ship. You can usually find a coupon online for $2 off admittance.

Have fun where ever you decide to go.

  8. I'm sorry the OP, Tommy and Skai did not enjoy their experience at Costa Maya and Mahuhual. We've been twice and had lovely days both times. Yes, the immediate port area is expensive, but that is the same everywhere. We had researched and knew exactly where to go to find the taxi's and they took us to within a block of where we wanted to go. They can't drive on the Malecon, it is pedestrian only, so you will probably have to walk a little ways at least. We've walked the entire Malecon and back, and while not doable if you have physical limitations, it is an enjoyable walk for anyone in reasonable shape, or even not that good of shape. You can also rent bikes and ride the Malecon. We never met anyone who was rude in any way. Of course, the vendors would like you to buy their wares, but that is also the same at most stops. None were rude to us. We much prefer this stop over Belize or Progreso, or even Jamaica. But we typically have fun anywhere.

  9. Unless this is a vastly different Jose Cuervo tequila than what you find in the States, I wouldn't pay to drink it. There is a little tequila village in Chankanaab park where you can taste samples. There are also tours offered at Hacienda Antiqua http://www.tequilatourcozumel.com/ that sound interesting. I've never done it, but it is on my list of things I want to do. There are reviews for that tour on Trip Adviser. If you walk around downtown, there are lots of shops that give away tastings. Have fun!

  10. This is an actual question, not a rhetorical one- is it legal to bike on the sidewalk? I've only ever seen (locals) bike in the road, and I know many place in the US don't allow bikes on sidewalks.

I personally wouldn't bike or drive in Cozumel. When we stay there we walk in San Miguel and take taxi's when going far.

I have no idea if it is legal or not to bike on that particular sidewalk. On most of the sidewalks in town, you would not be able to bike because of the conditions of the sidewalks and the number of people. The the sidewalk between town and the International pier and Puerta Maya is a nice wide smoothly paved sidewalk. When we walked it there was very little if any pedestrian traffic using it besides us. You can go to Google Earth, street view, start at Margaritaville and go towards the port and see how wide and empty the sidewalk on the sea side is. I didn't see any signs saying that bikes aren't allowed, but that doesn't mean they are. Using street view, you can see all of the bars and places you could stop. If you were on bikes, you'd have to worry about locking them and watching them. I would just walk it.

  11. The internet options are being changed throughout the fleet. Royal is eliminating the per minute or per hour rates, and going to daily unlimited rates. The least you can buy is one day, and if you buy for the entire cruise, the per day price goes down. One device is $15 to $20 per day, two devices is $20 to $30 per day.

Thanks. The cost online right now is $20 per day for one device on my sailing.

  12. 6 AM is mid morning for me. I would not be dragging myself out of bed.

If you don't mind me asking, how late do you stay up at night? Do you go to the shows, clubs, etc.? On normal work days I'm up and about by that time too. But I'm also in bed early the night before. Six a.m. on my cruise ship clock is pretty early!

  13. I'm at the purser's desk almost every morning @ 6 AM or there abouts. No lines...sleepy, but cordial person behind the desk. Ask for the current printout.

Shows the charges, the OB credits. No surprises on the last day.

    Be proactive!

Wow - I hope I'm not spending my hard earned vacation dollars with a company so prone to mistakes that I need to drag myself out of bed and to the pursers desk that early every morning while I'm on vacation!

  14. We have walked from Carnival's pier into town before. Actually, we took a cab into town and then walked back, doing our own little pub crawl along the way. It was fun. There is a nice wide sidewalk all the way from town to the pier that you could ride on if you want to bike. We met up with some people from the CC M&G at the Park Royal, and then finished at one of the bars at the pier. It was a good day.

  15. Wow. I really can't believe the cruise critic "community" has done nothing but attack the OP in the replies so far.

The complaint seems entirely valid and seems entirely typical of a corporate culture of ignoring the problem until it goes away.

As for those saying the poster wasn't 'entitled' to the free packages - WHY NOT? As they said, they had plenty of time to cancel and rebook to get it so logically it would have been easier to just get royal to amend their booking.

Have some sympathy and stop blaming the poster. We are a CUSTOMER and a GUEST - is it too much to expect Royal to give timely and accurate answers instead of tossing the problem back to the customer?

    Well said.
