  1. OP, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your Chef's Table experience. We did it on the Ecstasy in December and thought it was phenomenal. All our food was delightful, and everything was beautifully presented and served at the proper temperature. We received an autographed copy of the cookbook at the end of our meal.

The only thing that lessened our experience was our group. It seemed to us that the majority of the people didn't really want to be there, and a couple of them were pouting throughout the meal. Attempts to make conversation were met with silence. There was a child in our group, and I have to admit I was a bit taken aback when I saw her, but she was very well behaved...just not big on dinner conversation.

It's a LONG meal, and based on my experience it's great for foodies, but if someone's not into that type of thing I think they would be pretty miserable by about two hours in. We would definitely do it again, but probably only if we could sign-up with at least one other couple. We'd like to know there's somebody with us who enjoys long dinners and all that goes with them!

  2. I'm trying to find an up-to-date list of the wines offered in the three packages. Everything I've seen looks slightly different than what I recall from the Conquest in March, but we didn't get a package so I didn't look too closely. Does anybody have a list that's very recent?

I'll be on the Dream in June, and I seem to be the pseudo-travel agent for my family!

    Thanks!

  3. Ship - Voyager of the Seas

    Deck - 10

    Stateroom # - 1340

    Stateroom Category – JS

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – 1340 is a few cabins behind the hump, and there is only a view aft. You cannot see the bridge or the bow from this balcony. There is a view straight out when seated.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - The balcony was a normal size for this ship. The balconies on the Voyager are very private.

Was wind a problem? - There was no wind at all!

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - It wasn't 9318, which we had been looking forward to for a year, but gave up to save $1,300!

Any other comments? - Great location near the aft stairs and elevators with easy access to other parts of the ship. We were a bit apprehensive about being under the Windjammer, but this cabin is directly beneath Portofino and it was very quiet.

  4. Ship - Mariner of the Seas

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9612

    Stateroom Category – D

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes...we never knew there was anybody there unless we both happened to be on the balcony at the same time.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – We loved the view from the forward part of the hump. We didn't have a view aft because of the location of the cabin.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal, but slightly angled due to the hump.

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - None!

Any other comments? - We were apprehensive about being in a connecting cabin with strangers next door, but we had no problems all week.

  5. Ship - Voyager of the Seas

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9318

    Stateroom Category – JS

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – 9318 is in the center of the hump, and there is an unobstructed view forward and aft. Because of the in-hull design of the Voyager's balconies, you do have to lean out a bit to see where you're going or where you've been. There is a view straight out when seated.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - The balcony seemed slightly deeper than others we've had.

Was wind a problem? - There was no wind at all!

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - The "refrigerator" really didn't cool at all.

Any other comments? - Great location with easy access to other parts of the ship.

  6. We think an area where Carnival really shines is food selection and quality, especially in the MDR. Food on a cruise is very important to us, and we were very impressed on both our Carnival cruises. The quality of the meat and seafood seems to be quite a bit better on CCL vs. RCCL.

We eat almost all our dinners (one night in a specialty restaurant) in the MDR, and choose the dining room for lunch whenever it's open. I prefer the rotating lunch menus on Carnival and Princess to the set menu on RCCL.

As for the buffet, I find them all to be quite similar, but we eat there as little as possible...that means lunch on port days on both Carnival and RCCL. One thing I like about Carnival is all the Lido options that aren't buffet...Mongolian Grill, Deli, fresh pizza, the grill, Burrito Bar, Rotisserie Chicken, etc. We found ourselves choosing one of those when the dining room was closed for lunch...much better then the buffet!

There are things I like better about Royal Caribbean, but food isn't one of them.:)

  7. Hi there Conquest Experts! We're thinking about trying the Conquest next year at Spring Break. We've cruised out of Galveston at Spring Break on both the Grand Princess and the Voyager, and we liked both ships. Have any of you been on the Conquest and also one or both of those other ships? If so, could you compare them for me?

    Thanks for your help!

  8. We were in 9612 on the Mariner, which is the room that has the connecting door to 9614. It was a wonderful location, and aside from the fact that there was an extra door in our cabin, we never felt that our room was any different than others we've stayed in. I'd book this cabin again!

  9. We always use EZ Cruise and have never had a problem. We drop luggage (& me:)) off at the terminal, and my DH goes and parks the car and walks back. We do the same in reverse at the end of the cruise.

Arriving between 10:30-11 usually allows enough time for departing passengers to get back to their cars and free up spots. Of course, if the ships are delayed 5 hours like they were last weekend, then all bets are off.

  10. There are few better shows than standing on your dockside balcony, promenade, or lido decks and watching the reboarding at Cozumel. From about an hour before sailing time on, the C&C patrons [victims?] will be lined up. Having been a star of this show, I'm not sure if its better to watch or participate. The watchers have more clear memories of the reboarding for sure.:D

We have had the "Cozumel Balcony Experience" before and it was hysterical. We got to witness a similar show last March in Costa Maya, when we were docked with the Carnival Holiday. The Holiday was packed with college kids on Spring Break. We spent at least an hour out on our balcony laughing at the kids staggering back to their ship. One girl was being carried over someone's shoulder like a sack of potatoes. They both almost went right off the side of the pier. I don't think too many people on that ship made it to dinner that night!

  11. Has anyone stayed in either of these mini-suites with the extended balcony? I usually select a cabin near mid-ship, but the larger covered balcony is appealing.

I believe the Vista Lounge is directly below these cabins. Can you hear a lot of noise from below? What about movement in the back of the ship? (Neither one of us is prone to motion sickness). We're considering one of these mini-suites for a trip next spring, and I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!
