  1. Under the REVIEWS section of this board, you will find cabin reviews. You access by cruise line, ship, and deck. Posters who have submitted cruise reviews at times give detailed, or summary, reviews of the particular cabin they used, and these cabin reviews can be valuable. I recently was able to find that my chosen cabin for an upcoming cruise had been very favorably reviewed.

  2. ] Our first Silversea cruise was on the Spirit and if I had to base whether or not I would sail on Silversea again based on that ship, there would not have been a second cruise.

I am very interested in knowing what has put you off in the Spirit. I would understand that it would be your very personal opinion, but this is what makes Cruise Critic so special and valuable... Others may end up sharing your opinion...

  3. San Basilio quay, pier 25.

At least that is the scheduled place.

It's not that giant port where the HUGE vessels go.

We will be in Venice for several days before cruise date.

Judging from my past visits, it will be HOT and crowded.

I plan on staying far away from the crowded areas.

San Basilio is so convenient to everything! You can walk, a sort of round-about scenic walk, to St. Mark's. Also, you can take the public vaporetto anywhere. We were in port on the Spirit in June 2015 and it was hot. DH and I didn't mind it so much...everything was so lovely! Have a wonderful, safe trip and very much looking forward to your reports.

  4. Interesting post. I always thought that you were a woman but wearing "fine wool kilts" would suggest otherwise. However, wearing cashmere and pearls suggests that you are a woman. Perhaps women are now wearing kilts?

Would be interesting in learning from others if women are now wearing kilts. And, if so, do they wear anything under them:D

I am a hispanic woman and I wear kilts! My DH traveled to Scotland years and years ago and brought me two fine wool kilts. I wear them every winter in upper-upstate NY, with leggings. Cashmere and pearls are indeed a very elegant touch.

  5. It's all fine for those of you making light of those of us who prefer the current dress code. However, I'll enjoy formal nights in SS as long as they last. Afterwards... I don't know if I will like Cunard...

  6. Ithaca - My experience on the transatlantic is that the fitness instructor will offer a walk around the upper deck at 7 or 7:30am' date=' for 30 min - with some kind of low-impact fitness class, also 30 min immediately following. Almost every day at 5pm a yoga, Pilates or other 45 min class will be offered. I've never seen a high-impact aerobics class offered. Problem with the afternoon class is that you must choose between Trivia and Fitness because they are always at the same time:mad:

    ...see you on board!

Hey, Jen, thanks for the info! Bummer about choosing Trivia or Fitness; would've wanted to do both. Looking forward to our cruise.

  7. I boarded straight away and met my butler Rahul who took me to my suite and introduced me to the facilities. These included a variety of soaps, pillows, drinks for my cocktail cabinet and the layout of the suite, which I knew well. There is a separate shower unit in the bathroom, cloakroom, large queen bed, lounge area with settee, armchair, writing desk complete with personalised writing paper, adequate cupboard, drawer and shelf space and a safe. There is an verandah with table and two chairs where I had breakfast on the morning we were anchored off Sorrento.

This is an excerpt from the poster's cruise review, and he didn't mention any WiFi problem, or any issue at all. His cabin review was a sentence referring to this excerpt. To access cabin reviews, go to Reviews/cabins/ship/V1(or appr. #). Sadly, not many people post cabin reviews.

  8. Hope you have as good a time as we did, say hello to Raoul the Butler if he is still there. We had an amazing cruise

Thanks, jackieN, hopefully we'll get Raoul as our butler and I'll be sure to convey your message. Love the Spirit! ;)

  9. Great to know; we will be in 520 in November. Solitarycruiser, I hope you saw the cabin review of 508 in the home page (cabin reviews) of CC. There was no mention of any problem with WiFi.

  10. I plan to be on a 16 day Transatlantic in November and I would love to have access to an aerobics class. Do people who have been in cruises of this length know if aerobics, zumba, or similar, are offered? Unfortunately, in prior SS cruises (shorter in length, I must clarify) there were either none, or only yoga, classes offered.

  11. I guess I never payed attention to what the symbol meant... I'm sure you are aware that September and October are the prime months of the Caribbean's hurricane season. November is not out of the loop, but is less probable. If you do switch, I hope you have calm seas and that we meet in another cruise.

  12. Thanks for the clarification, Mark; the announcement on the site can be confusing. Will you be on the Spirit? Funny, two crossings the same month, same embarkation port, with basically the same itinerary until after North Africa...

  13. I just checked into a mini-crossing in November on the Spirit that we booked several months ago, and I see that the website has changed its theme from a Bridge Cruise to an Italian Wine Cruise. We are certainly happy for the change (we are not bridge players), but worry that many bridge players may not be aware of the change. We received no formal notification from SS regarding this change. I would like to make it public on this forum for what it may be worth.

  14. Well, three codes is an issue, especially on a tropical cruise where you can also add shorts, swimwear, and ultra casual, for a total of six "dress codes". This adds up to a lot of packing and a lot of luggage to haul through airports and other transfers where there never seems to be any help. All these dinner dress codes were rather fun, back in the day when "Sky Cap" was still an occupation.

When I started thisbthread, I was considering a Silversea get-away for early next Spting. Then the reality of the logistics set in, and we booked a cruise on Regent.

I am so sorry the dress code inhibited you from enjoying SS! I understand that a casual elegant dress code seems to be the preference of most cruisers nowadays, but I will surely miss formal nights if the code is changed. For some reason, it doesn't present a problem with our luggage, and we only carry one suitcase each for 11-16 day cruises. I will readily accept a more relaxed dress code, but I ask you to also accept those of us who will overdress, according to this new relaxed code that may be implemented in the future. Please don't rule SS out.

  15. Not quite true yet on Silversea for formal nights. Certainly fewer tuxes than even just a couple of years ago but still lots tuxes and dark/darker suites, at least the majority. A blazer with collared shirt with or without tie is more common for informal nights.

Very much agree. Specially on the Med, formal nights are quite formal and all seem to enjoy them. However, suit (darkish) and tie are fine, and ladies seem always to know what to wear and look classy. My DH wears a tux while in the Med, but suite and tie everywhere else. I, unlike him, love to dress up and wear formals, even if he's not i his most formal. My advice, be comfortable within the code, and live it up as much as you want!

  16. Also this morning while looking for the internet instructions within our desktop folder we found an invitation from our travel agent to dine at Champagne and to contact the maitre d'hotel for reservations. way, as are the majority of the staff). Shortly after, by the pool, we were approached by "Typhoon" agressively with "what's your cabin number" and "we were waiting for you last night". If there is a problem with communication, do not put the passenger in doubt.

Otherwise the staff in general are very friendly and eager to please.

    Dear Les Picantans,

We had a similar experience when the M&M invitation was left, not in the mailbox, but underneath the desk mat. Guest Services correctly indicated that the invitation was in our cabin; however, why would I look underneath the mat? Fortunately, I was able to find the information on our M&M on time. I hope this helps other CC'rs who can't find their invitation...
