I must agree about demand over this side of the pond. I get an e mail once a month from Croisieurope. Often offering 2 for 1 deals on cruises departing within a month. These are genuine discounts from their advertised and sold prices.
Also I usually book river cruises via a tour operator who requires a £250 deposit and the balance 8-12 weeks before departure.

I am a Hurtigruten novice with only 3 winter return trips under my belt. I have met passengers with 5,10 and even 30 plus trips taken. Be warned once you go you will want to return. I know I do want another trip subject to the classic ships still being in service.

Coisieurope for me totally cosmopolitan and at 60 I was one of the oldest on board.

If you dial from US or UK the number takes you through to Hurigrutens central booking office in Tallin, Estonia.

I sailed on the Croisieurope ship MV France last year along the Danube, which is reported elsewhere on CC Forum. Like you we had groups on board covering 14 different nationalities speaking 12 different languages. A total pleasure which I hope to repeat on Croisieurope's ocean vessel next year (around the Adriactic) followed by the Seine in 2013.

This is the wording from the link I posted above. Last year there was a free transfer bus from the dock to the metro station.
River Station (Rechnoy Vokzal)
The River Station welcomes river cruises from Moscow and the Russian North, and is located in the far south-east of St. Petersburg on Prospekt Obukhovskoy Oborony. It is a little under ten minutes' walk from the terminal to Proletarskaya Metro Station (coming off the boat, turn left and follow the road straight around 400m). Proletarskaya is on the green line, five stops from Mayakovskaya on Nevsky Prospekt. If you would rather travel in the comfort of a taxi, we recommend either booking a transfer, or phoning one of these recommended taxi companies on arrival, as trying to find a taxi on the street will be difficult and/or expensive.
