  1. On my first Celebrity cruise my brother was 21 and I was 26. Honestly, we both enjoyed the quality time away and being with our parents and didn't feel the need to meet others or have "stuff" to do, we just enjoyed being together as a family. I guess it depends on your needs and her personality. Does she want to meet others? Or does she just want to hang with you? We don't live at home anymore, so it was a nice time to all be together again. If you think your daughter wants to meet others and hang out with others her age, it will probably be difficult on Celebrity. The other "kids" our age were also with their parents and didn't seem like any of us really wanted to hang out with each other.

*** I should say, this was on a Mediterranean cruise which I think attracts family/generation type cruisers. There is a different vibe on a "Med" cruise.***

Bottom line, NCL will have more passengers her age IF she is looking to meet others her age. If she doesn't care about meeting others and just wants to hang with dad, than go on Celebrity ;)

Have fun! How nice for the two of you to take a trip together :)

  2. Do you wear them with socks? If so, what weight sock? They really are pretty.

Thanks! They come in lots of colors too! At the Cole Haan store when they were fitting me they recommended a very thin liner, which they provided just to add a little extra so it hit at the right spot on my ankle, if that makes sense? This was to prevent any rubbing/blisters. I really appreciated they took the time to fit me and provide the free little insert. Because of this, when I am running around town locally I do not wear socks. I feel like the little insert sort of soaks up any sweat and I can replace that (sorry, gross, I know). However, when wearing them for miles and miles in France I did wear little ped like socks. The same little socks I wear in my flats and loafers. Super thin and small, the kind you cannot see.

    Hope this helps :)

Well with such a great recommendation had to try and 'find' some - and I am in Canada - lo and behold was able to order the oxfords and some runners as well at The Bay - being shipped to me....but as luck would have it went shopping today at Winners (e.g. Marshall's) and there was a lovely PINK suede pair of the oxfords- so I tried on the size I ordered and alas they did not fit well on my flat feet :( ....they are somewhat 'unstructured/soft' and I was not getting the support I needed....

I shall return those and hope the 'runners' I also ordered fit better??? http://www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/thebay/shoes/womens-shoes/zerogrand-perforated-sneakers-0600088948701--24

That is awesome you found a pair on sale, sorry they did not fit :( I was just telling a poster above, at the Cole Haan store they will "fit" you and provide a free little insert if needed. I really appreciated this step they took. They had me walk around the store etc. The little insert did just the trick! My husband has the leather ones, I think they are more sturdy. Also, the runner style you just posted. That was the newest version when I was buying mine and the sales associate was RAVING about them. She said they were better than the ones I got! I think that style is the newest technology. Good luck!!!

  3. Which zerogrands do you have?

I got the black ballet flat -- it's good (better than your average flat) but certainly could not walk in it all day...)

I will attach the link. I am OBSESSED with them. I wore them all over Paris (miles and miles). When I went to the store to buy them the guy told me the pair I was buying was the number 1 best seller in the history of Cole Haan. Worth EVERY penny. My husband even got the mens pair in the "dress shoe" style, he can get away with them at work in a suit. His profession requires him to wear a suit but also be able to run at anytime, perfect option!

  4. Wow, wow, wow!

A big thank you to each and everyone of you for the VERY helpful responses! I was so scared I was going to get attacked and told to "use the search function." :halo: Which I tried, but I was quickly overwhelmed. This was extremely helpful, thank you to each person who took the time to respond. I greatly appreciate it and this helps me to move forward with planning :D

We had an epic family cruise to the Mediterranean and I just want to make sure this cruise is just as amazing, in a different way. My parents work so hard and just want to plan the best cruise for our family :* Just waiting for my husband to hear back from work on vacation time and then we can move forward and book, yippee!

Thank you!!! I am sure once we actually get the cruise booked, I will be back for more questions ;) Love the CC community!

    Smiles,

    Ashley

  5. Hi CC! My family is considering an Alaska cruise for my mothers 60th Birthday. My parents plan to do one, and only one, Alaskan cruise. I feel very well educated in the Mediterranean but I feel completely at lost when it comes to Alaska  My parents want me to research and help find the ship/itinerary.

    • What would be the one thing to MUST SEE in Alaska? Is it Glacier Bay (from what little research I have done)?

One hiccup I have with Glacier Bay is that Celebrity does not sail there. My parents (and my husband and I) love Celebrity and that is our cruise line of choice. We love Celebrity so much and would prefer to sail on X to Alaska- but will we miss out not seeing Glacier Bay? From what I read, Alaska is all about the itinerary and not the ship.

What would you recommend for a one time Alaskan cruise? We need to limit it to 7 nights, work obligations will not allow us to take a longer trip :(

My parents really want to see whales and have the "fjord" experience. I want to plan the best cruise possible for my parents, they deserve it!

Thank you so much in advance.

    Smiles,

    Ashley :D

  6. Looking forward to the live report! My husband and I lived in Atlanta for several years, the traffic is no joke! ;p

Can't wait for the rest! Also interested in your comparison as we sailed on Solstice and Equinox. We really enjoy the Hot Glass Show on the other ships, will be interested to read your comments.

    Bon Voyage! :)

  7. Do they have activities suited to a younger crowd

It depends what you are looking for. My most recent Carnival cruise was for a bachelorette party. You will not find on Celebrity belly flop contest, drink mixing contest by the pool, and so on. There will be a pool volleyball game. At night the "clubs" are quiet on celebrity with the most activity usually at the martini bar. The 2 lines are very, very different and each is an expertise in its niche. If I want to party with my girlfriends, I go to carnival. If I want to spend quality time with my husband, enjoy a dinner, a glass of wine, it's Celebrity.

On our last celebrity cruise we personally did not see any others our age and ending up hanging out with a lot of the crew. (It was a 10 day Caribbean sailing in December FYI). My Celebrity experiences have all been on 10, 12 night sailing which naturally attracts an older crowd. It's very rare to see younger cruisers. We always end up making friends with the crew on Celebrity. Many of which we still keep in touch. With that being said, the schedule has several activities, it is just different than Carnival.

    Hope this helps :)

  8. My husband and I (now 30) have been cruising Celebrity since we were 25 and it is our cruise line of choice. I have many friends that would NOT enjoy X. When my husband and I cruise we are looking for good food and relaxation. We are not into clubs or partying.

Also, we like the decor of X. We are not into seashells and bright colors. X reminds us more of a modern hotel, especially the new Edge class!

  9. My friend who is a seasoned X cruiser (as are her parents, they cruise X all the time) just returned and they brought their 7 month old. They had 3 generations on board :) I think this is a great way for a family who loves Celebrity to bring generations together. Also, it was a 2 week sailing. They brought a cute little inflatable pool for the pool deck and kept it out of the way.

She had nothing but positives to say. When my husband and I have children, we plan to bring them on Celebrity as we feel we connect the best with X's "modern luxury" approach. Especially the Edge class, cannot wait!

  10. We canceled our May cruise when they removed Istanbul :(. Istanbul has been number 1 on my list for the past few years. We are going to spend 2 weeks driving around France instead as we have already cruised the Western Med. One day we will make it to Istanbul, just not in 2016 :(

The news today is very sad.

  11. I read up on your reviews! All that rain on your honeymoon?!! My DH and I actually took our honeymoon in 2013 to Costa Rica. We were married in 2007, but he was in the Air Force and deployed. So we kept putting it off. Costa Rica was amazing.

We looked into doing the same exact Equinox cruise that you did. However, it isn't going to work into our schedules. So we're debating a 10 night Equinox or a 7 night Reflection cruise!

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time though. I may have to pick your brain some more, if you don't mind ;)

I am glad you had a good time in Costa Rica! Yes, let me know if you have any more questions :) I am just about to start planning our next Celebrity cruise, woohoo!

  12. My husband and I sailed on the celebrity solstice when we were (engaged) 25 and the equinox when we were (honeymoon) 27, and we are hooked on celebrity! We had a cruise booked for last year and had to cancel. We are trying to rebook for next year, we will be 29 :) (actual it is for our 30th birthdays but technically I will be 29 when the cruise leaves haha)!

I have 2 reviews, you can see them in my signature. I am still working on the 2nd which I promise to finish.

We are not big partiers, I have a few drinks and my husband does not drink. We prefer celebrity over any other cruise line. (I have been on both carnival and royal several times)

We really enjoy the hot glass show, that's our favorite form of entertainment on board. On our Equinox cruise we even became friends with hot glass artist!

If you have questions let me know!

  13. Hey Jeff, how was the seaweed in Coz? My last time there earlier this year I went to Passion Island and it was a stinking mess. In January I was in Playa across the way and there were tons of seaweed onshore. I realize tides and currents change, and I'm hoping when I go back to Coz, this time to Nachi in Oct and then Nov, I'll find clean beaches. What was your take?

We were at Nachi Cocom and do not remember seeing a lot of seaweed. I even paddle boarded all over the place and never saw clumps of seaweed anywhere :) it was beautiful.

  14. We were also on this sailing :)

I can answer a couple questions.

we went to the piano bar twice and loved it. We thought the food was mediocre to poor. However we had a blast. We were on for a bachelorette party and had a great time! Food was not high on the priority list ;) we went to a day all-Inclusive called nachi cocom. Service and staff on board the Paradise were all friendly and wonderful. The smell of cigarette smoke was pretty bad. We hung out a lot near the casino and Rex nightclub which is a heavy smoke area. I would sail on the Paradise again for a quick get away for a party, such as a bachelorette party. However if I wanted a relaxing trip and good food, less smoke, etc. I would cruise on a different line, such as celebrity.

  15. I enjoyed being able to interact with the site and Pedro brought it to life.

Just as we were finishing the tour it began to pour again. Caution, the ruins are VERY slippery in the rain! We all piled back on the bus to make our way back to Celebrity in Belize City. The bus ride was very bumpy, I found the sea sick patch I wear behind the ear also helped with me not getting car sick.

Again, due to the rain, we had to take an alternate route as many bridges were closed. This caused us to arrive late to Belize City, past the cruise departure time and we missed the last tender. Thank goodness we booked a Celebrity tour, the ship waited for us.

The brought a tender back to pick us up, I think we held the ship up by about 90 minutes.

We rushed back to the cabin to get ready for dinner. We really wanted to make the show before dinner. We have not been to many of the shows on this cruise so we were determined to make it.

The show tonight was an impressionist who performed “Motown” hits. We recognized some of the songs but I don’t really know what Motown is. We assumed it was a music era before us.

Once again we had excellent and quick service in the MDR. Because our waiter only had us and one other table we were in and out of the MDR quickly; quicker than our previous cruise.

We went to the late night Hot Glass Show, which is AWESOME! Seeing the glass show at night is well worth it! They turn all the lights off so you can see the glass glow.

We also noticed tonight the “Lawn Club Store” is gone. I think a photo studio is replacing it? It was now just an empty area.

We were pretty exhausted from touring today so we went to bed early.

    Up next: Cozumel and SUNSHINE!!!!
