We have sailed on Princess(Platinum level),HAL, RCL,Viking. We went on our first NCL cruise on the Dawn out of Boston to Bermuda and was pleasantly surprised. Cabin was quite nice, great package deal with beverages, spec. restaurants, etc. Food and entertainment was a big surprise. Very nice, indeed.
Every ship has its positives and negatives. And, IMHO, Princess, HAL and NCL are comparable.
Viking Ocean and River are at a higher level, but so is the price tag :)
All and all, we liked NCL. However, the casino smoke and the "smoking lounge" right next to the casino made Deck 6 disgusting. For that reason alone, we would not likely choose NCL again unless they change their smoking policy.

Let's make this topic easy. Leave auto tips in place, tip extra if you so desire and play by the rules. It's that simple.

Love the snow grotto! Went in with bare feet and sat on rock. Made a few snow balls. Well, I'm use to snow in Maine! Fun!

I will stand corrected if I’m wrong but at the time of booking your speciality restaurants x amount of days before sailing you don’t know what the menu is in the chefs table restaurant. I don’t like most fish so be aware that should your booking have a menu you don’t like you will either cancel or see if you can negotiate alternatives prior to the day.
Check out the menus and days each dinner is offered when you get on board. Can change reservations if there is an opening for the date and time you want. Personally, I found the Chef's Table not to my liking, even though the entree was beef which I usually like.
The food was just a little weird for me, for example, foam course. :p
Anyway, I'm sure that there are a lot of opinions which vary based on indivdiual tastes. Manfredi's and the Kitchen were great.

We’ve been on several med cruises and really it doesn’t make any difference unless you grab an aft cabin as you pull out of port. Land is a long way away. And there’s no way of predicting on which side the ship will dock. If it’s a tender well that’s even more random. Perhaps think about whether you want sunset on your balcony, that may make it too hot to sit on during the afternoon. Or conversely if you want bright sunshine early in the morning. Both of which depend on how shady the roof of the verandah is.
Well said! There are just so many variables to consider. Each side has advantages on every cruise, imho. And, for the record, I think aft cabins are great!

It really doesn't make a difference. Ships dock on both sides depending on the port and instructions from the Harbor Master.

If you don't want to bust your buns to answer a question and you don't want to ignore a question, why do you go for door #3 and choose to be rude?
Agree! no need for rudeness.
During the day, we wore crop pants, bermudas, comfortable tops (and a jacket if needed), and other casual sportswear on both Viking cruises we have taken. Some nights, wore a bit dressier tops. I did not take any fussy stuff, dresses or dressy shoes.

With respect, smiles, thank yous, generous tips. Viking has the best crews on the seven seas!

We love Viking and have found Customer Service on board to be terrific. Like others above, we use a very experienced travel agent. No problems with the 16 cruises we have booked with him.
-
it is a dining venue, not cooking school. Rather fussy, imo,. We did not enjoy it. They have 3 menus, I believe, one each per night. See Viking site for more info.
Manfreddi's is amazing as all of their food on ship.

Viking!

A handwritten thank you note attached to a very high quality bar of chocolate.
A nice gesture in my opinion.

Viking ocean cruises will blow your mind!
Fantastic!

Explorer Lounge! Don't miss the spa and snow grotto. We went everyday and loved it!

We bring very little "extras" and pack light.
We do bring (beyond the obvious items):
Binoculars (mine are powerful and lightweight Nikon from LLBean.)
Small pack of anti bacterial wipes (I wipe down the remote, phone, toilet etc.when we first into our cabin.)
Small First Aid kit
Small Flameless Candle
After taking so many cruises, I've found that we didn't need so many of the item listed here. Brought and never used Duct Tape, pop up hamper, towel clips, magnets, plastic over the door shoe thingy, etc.
But, to each his own!

We love Ensenada. Sure, if you want to go to the beach, then I can understand why it isn't liked. But we don't care for the beach. We like the culture, the people and the stores (restaurants, markets, casinos or stores geared towards the locals).
Ensenada made me feel sad.
There were children begging for money. They were alone and with adults.
Stores in the main shopping area were filled with cheap articles and dust was everywhere.
The poverty there is real and tragic.
We did find a town hall with historic and interesting information and displays.

Binoculars!

I enjoy trying new food and enjoying a dessert once in a while while cruising. We walk a lot so I don't gain.
I have struggled with weight issues and worked hard to think about what food means to me; how I feel physically and emotionally when I eat.
We sail on Princess and I like their food selections very much. But, I never feel as though I should eat a lot just because I PAID FOR IT.
That said, please don't flame me here as it is only my opinion and not put out there to insult....I am floored by the amount of food some folks heap on their plates in the Horizon Court. Really, take normal portions, if still hungry, go back and get a little more.

C752 is an excellent aft cabin with a larger than normal balcony. It is located next to a suite which in my opinion is good. The weird space and door which people have identified is access to the crew only stairs which double up as a fire exit in case of emergency. These stairs will only come into play for you when the muster drill takes place. Other than that there will be no through traffic other than crew.
Regards John
Agree! We have stayed i C752. Grab it!

In a word: DON'T

I like the Caribe because they have both sun and shaded areas. This is very helpful when sailing in the Caribbean.... sun is very hot. (Skin cancer....enough said.)

Stickies on the mirror. Also, we talk:D

Good heavens, no. A towel to sit on is sufficient in many places. And it's much nicer without, IMO.
.Yuck, naked and no towel! Please, at least sit on a towel
Tipping on ocean cruise
in Viking Ocean
Posted
I will gladly pay the suggested daily tip. Always have on all cruises.
My question is about Room Service on Viking Ocean.
What is the proper tip each time Room Service is delivered to cabin?
