  1. We will be in a Haven Suite on the Epic but our adult children will be in a regular room a few decks down. Can they get to us without key cards, can they use the Haven facilities with us--dining, lounge, Haven suite sun deck, etc.? Can the concierge book venues for 4 rather than 2? Thanks for any information.

You can have them inside your suite but they do not have access to haven as that is for haven guest use only

  2. Pablo Rodriguez. He was on the Spirit in Feb. 2011. The man can flat out play the guitar. He was full every night. He followed a twosome I believe called Twice as Nice. They were also awesome and filled the venue. Every night was pretty much the same. They got together on the second last night and it was just great. I would love to see Pablo on our cruise on the Sun next Feb.

Pablo is currently on the Gem

  3. I'm not sure how to describe Sinan. He is a one man entertainment show, comedian, Cruise Director and ball of high energy. Not only does he manage to be in several places at once, or so it seems, but he does this and manages to be one of the most entertaining aspects of being on the Gem all at the same time. I hope someone else can chime in with their thoughts, but I'll say this he is unforgettable! :D

He has a tendency to say "Mmmmmkay". (like an exaggerated okay) at the end of his sentences and it's so hilarious when he punctuates a sentence with it you can't forget it. DH and I went on the Gem at the beginning of January and sometimes when we say something to each other we still end it in "Mmmmmkay" and then start cracking up.

Bon Voyage you're going to have a great trip! The Gem is beautiful. Her atrium ceiling is my favorite.

Sinan is on vacation returning Feb 14 2013

  4. Sorry, I won't be of much help with your questions. This was only a travel agent tour, I haven't cruised on the Star yet. Hopefully some others that have spent more time on board can help.

Sorry they no longer have endless summer restaurant on Star

They have two main dining rooms Aqua and Versailles

    Blue Lagoon open 24/7

    Market Cafe Buffet

    Specialty

    Cagney's

    La Cucina

    Le Bistro

    Moderno

    Teppanyaki

    Ginza

    Sushi Ala carte

  5. There is no doubt the mini-suite is probably mis-named and its closer to a deluxe balcony room than a suite. The pricing should easily give it away since the mini-suite is usually one a little higher than a regular balcony room and the suite is more than double the cost of a mini-suite.

I think it should be called Deluxe Balcony which is what it is and non be called a mini-suite

  6. I have a question about the Suite Selection letter I received by email. Should I make the selections I want and FAX it back, or just let the butler know our preference when we get on board? And I called to ask about having a bucket of beer in the room and the person at the concierge desk wasn't sure if they could do that and that they would call me back, but they never did. It's not that big of a deal, but my husband would be tickled to see that there, waiting for him

Hand write it on list can't hurt

  7. Wow!

I just heard about this thread while on another one.

Thanks so much for sharing all of this wonderful information.

We'll be in the 2 bedroom suite on the Star in January and we'd love

to set up some of the things early.

We usually book mini-suites, but we'll be traveling with 4 & the suite made sense.

We love the Star (2 previous cruises on her) & have 5 cruises booked on her in the next 9 months.

We should know the entire crew very well by end end of May.

    .

Wow you are booked solid. Way to go. The crew on the Star are awesome. I went on the Star in June to Bermuda and loved it so back again in September.

  8. We loved the Chef's table! I tried everything(not like me at all). So many new culinary experiences for me at the same sitting. The wine was outstanding, not to mention plentiful!

I think it was worth evey dime. We are hoping to do it in January on the Gem.

I am thinking about trying it on the Star in September skipped it on the Star in June

  9. Horseman, you give a lot of very good advice, for which all of us should be grateful. However, some times you are out in left field.

NOW, I am not saying you are definitely wrong about this b2b2b cruise, although I do think you are. And I must admit to not having had the patience to read this thread beyond the end of page 1. BUT, your quote above is really bad advice.

The majority of legal issues are decided by case law, and not by reading the statutes, or the regs. Indeed, just reading statutes is the best route to ending up with a personal conclusion with which the courts have not agreed. Of course, for an individual who is not willing or able to explore the entire history of previous court decisions, there may be no alternative to just reading the statute. But it pays to be humble -- common sense and reading statutes does not always get you to the correct answer.

All I know is two of my friends did these very same cruises on the Pearl in September and booked directly through NCL and had same cabin for all three cruises

  10. My friend just did the three trips back to back on the Pearl. Seattle to Vancouver. Vancouver to LA and LA to Miami this past September/ October.

This gentleman posted the link to the PVSA rules:

then the Vancouver to LA 5 day Pacific Coastal

then the LA to MIA Panama Canal 14 day.

I'm pretty sure I can't do it, but NCL said I could. I just don't trust the "hourly" answers. If you know, please help!

The itinerary looks good to me, because the third leg includes a port call at Cartagena, Colombia, which qualifies as a Distant Foreign Port under the Passenger Vessel Services Act. (The PVSA, not the Jones Act is the law that applies to cruise ships.)

No problems when we booked but 2 wks later a NCL agent called and said we couldn't do it because of the Jones Act set way back in I think 1916. Can't remember the details, something about way back when protecting trading rights from country to country etc. So we cancelled both of the cruises since the attraction was following the coast. NCL wasn't too happy but we ended up finding a great deal on a repositioning cruise out of New York on the Dawn, to the Caribbean and ending in Miami. Sure would like that original itinery, though.

The third segment of the OP's cruise, from LA to Miami, makes the whole cruise itinerary legal under the PVSA (the Jones Act isn't for passenger cruise ships) because it calls at Cartagena, Colombia.

Correct...and all three legs together, which is what the OP is doing is also legal.
