1. We're on the Pacific Coastal in April. I do enjoy a Bloody Mary in the morning when I'm vacationing. Where would I be able to get a Bloody Mary on the Century, and what time would it open?

If you look at our site, under the Century (Hawaii), there is a button that says Dailies. Look there and you will see the times of operation for all bars and venues.

  2. My husband and I purchased an anniversary ring at Ballerina jewelers. This was 4 years ago before gold skyrocketed. Depending on your budget fine jewelry may be an option. When it was fitted my fingers must have been swollen and then was loose that evening after swimming. So on our next stop in St. Martin they resized it at their store there. I believe they also have a store in NY so if you have any problems there are other options. Save on $$ by wearing it off the ship. Ooops did I say that!

While on St. Maarten back in 2009, my husband bought a stunning diamond ring from Ballerina. The design is unique, and he gets compliments all the time. Both Ballerina and Imperial have large selections of men's rings and other men's jewelry.

I laughed at your Ooops statement. We have always claimed what we bought; and even when we have been several thousand over the limit, they've never charged us. This time we talked about it because we knew that we were going to be waaaaaay over. We decided to bite the bullet and claim everything. I couldn't believe it, but he smiled and passed us through. :D

  3. I my opinion, it's not that St. Thomas offers really great bargains any more. They are few and far between these days. I love to shop there because of the selection, especially in jewelry. I have found many unique designs that I haven't seen elsewhere. I usually go to Imperial Jewelers on Dronningens Gade. We have dealt with them for about 30 years and have never had a problem. As before mentioned, the shopping area is close together downtown, so that makes everything super easy.

  4. WOW! I am overwhelmed. I got home from work, and I see all of this. Y'all are bringing a tear to an old guy's eyes, on his birthday. :)

Happy Birthday, Ed and thanks for offering to help. For those of you who have never met Ed in person, he is a funny, generous person. I don't have a doubt in my mind that he would have driven all the way from Houston to Dallas to pick up our son if we had needed him to do it. And, BTW, it's about a four hour drive from Houston to Dallas, so round trip that would have been eight hours. Thanks Ed.

  5. Hi Guys.

Normally cruise with NCL. I have been looking at doing the 12 Night Grand Mediterrean Cruise aboard the Silouhette from Rome to Venice. I am nearly convinced to jump ship to Celebrity. Wondering if there is anyone out there that can convince me to change. Is it a great itinerary and is the ship and food as great as I am reading.

Would be looking at a Balcony Stateroom midships and would you be able to recommend one. New to Celbrity and want to try them out. The ship looks absolutely georgeous.

    Cheers Bob & Chris ( Downunder ).:):):)

NCL can not compare with Celebrity. We have been on the Solstice, Silhouette, and the Eclipse in the S class Celebrity ships. In four weeks we will be on the Reflection. We have done extensive reviews with loads of pictures on all of them. You can find the Silhouette under our Venice to Venice cruise at www.thepreismans.com. Enjoy.

  6. I have had orthoscopic surgery on my shoulder 16 years ago, and may be facing it again. I find out next Friday. I've also had adhesive capsulitis multiple times. My point is that I know how painful the PT is. I was in PT for 6 months, but it was more because they were trying to prevent it freezing up again. As others have pointed out, everyone is different and the only authority is your doctor.

On a positive note, last year I had over a third of one of my lungs removed. Six weeks later I was on the Silhouette in the Mediterranean. Yes, I was very limited in what I could and couldn't do; but it was THE BEST place to rest and recover. I went on excursions. I did what I could, and didn't worry about anything I missed. :)

  7. NearEnough, as you can see from my signature we have sailed Princess numerous times and have an Island Princess cruise booked for next year. Princess is very good, but Celebrity is better. Having said that, I don't know that I would like the Century for that many days. Don't misunderstand, there's nothing wrong with Century, but for 23 days there's not that much to do. If you like to read a lot, it would be great. We were on the Century last December with five consecutive sea days going from San Diego to Hawaii, and it was great. But 23, I don't know. One of the Solstice class ships would be better for me.

Anyway, if you're interested we have an in depth review with loads of pictures of the Century on our website at www.thepreismans.com. You can see the Century under the Hawaii review, and the Solstice class under the Scandinavia & Russia review. Hope this helps.

  8. Thanks, Mike! I will be cruising with my oldest daughter, but John might go, too. He is booked on the cruise, but won't know until close to the final payment date whether he can get the time off work.

I read your wonderful review, and will reread it when our cruise gets closer. I most recently read your South America review, as I just booked that cruise for 2015. :D

South America was one of my favorites! I hope you will plan to do Iguazu Falls. As you can tell from the review, it was at its peak when Mike and I were there. Amazing!!

  9. So glad we were able to bring back a few memories for you. When we first started cruising we did the ship tours, also. In fact our first 8 cruises consisted of ship excursions. There's somewhat of a learning curve, and that's why Mike includes links to private tour operators that we have used, and we try to give honest appraisals.

Cruise Critic is always the very best resource for finding good guides.

  10. Mike, we are both very well, thanks. :) Like you, I had read many wonderful comments about Alla Tours in St. Petersburg. I've been impressed since I first started communicating with her a year ago about a Baltic cruise this year that had to be cancelled. I'm really looking forward to being pleasantly exhausted! :D

Hi Nancy, nice to hear from you. :)

  11. Let me emphasize one part of Gonzo 70's comment. The Solstice class ships do not have an aft elevator. That means that every time you leave your cabin to go somewhere, you have to walk half the length of the ship to reach the midship elevators. If you forgot something in your cabin, at least half the ship to go back and get it. Going to dinner, you are in the rear, walk to the middle, then have to walk back to the aft to get to the main dining room. On a two week cruise that gets old quickly.

If you are younger and very fit, it is just annoying; but for anyone with the slightest walking issues, it's a nightmare. Also, as previously stated the cabins are not any "better". We were aft on the Solstice in #1206 -- never again!

Aft is best ever on Infinity, but not on the Solstice class!

  12.
Away all boats! Looks as if the crew were going fishing.
a-tx-brit,
I had to laugh when I saw that picture and your response to it! When we were on the Freedom in Aug., the CD James Andrews did a skit about the 10 dumbest questions that cruisers ask. One of the top ones was something like this, "Where does the crew sleep onshore every night?". That's not the exact words, but you get the idea! Anyway, that's what I thought of when I first saw the picture. Say goodnight, the crew is going ashore. :D

Can you imagine her taking a vacation to Europe? Topless bathers EVERYWHERE!!! Community pools, the beach, etc. And not just in Europe, many Caribbean islands too...Some are just oblivious to the reality of life!

Come on guys, cut the lady some slack! She phrased her original request in a nice enough way. Personally, I didn't particularly care for the picture myself; but I just posted some more pictures after it so that it wouldn't keep popping up. She chose to say something. The whole thing would have died right there if y'all hadn't started making fun of her.

I have been on this board a lot longer than both of you put together. The original board was intended to share information and experiences with other cruisers -- to be helpful. Within the last couple of years the tone has changed and posts seem to be a contest to see who can make the wittest sarcastic remark. That is a totally unnecessary goal.

The pictures posted on this thread are very enjoyable. So let's just please stick to the purpose and play nice in the sandbox. :D

  14. In Dunedin, New Zealand we saw an albatross on her nest. They are huge birds with a wing span of ten feet.

Next we saw the rarest breed of all penguins, the Yellow Eyed Penguin.
