We are just off the Zuiderdam and saw the Captain several times. He was always out and about the ship.

U.S. dollars are widely accepted in Canada. It is much better to go to a bank ATM and withdraw the Canadian cash you need or go to a Money Mart. You’ll. Get a be yer exchange rate.

Our flight leaves late in the day. Where can we store our luggage until we need to go to the airport?

I only wish there would be lots of Francophone on the cruise. The only cruises we have run into Francophone have been in Europe.

We never buy excursions, drink packages until we get onboard. That OBC disappears quickly.

There was definitely the choice for preface sandwiches and to order sandwiched when we were on the Noordam in April.

We got off the Noordam last Sunday and had the easiest port exit ever. We sailed through customs and we on our way. Granted we packed light this with 2 easily transported suitcases and backpacks.

No mileage at all there for me... Sorry. Zero.
We are Princess cruisers. Our next cruise will be on the Regal Princess.
And, I am thinking that in some ways, (not all of course), HAL will be a step down.
But when it comes to the basics, the cabin, food, etc.. They seem to be on-par. With slight differences of course.
The HAL itineraries, as mentioned, and the availability of their brand new ship, the Nieuw Statendam, have us placing a deposit on a Mediterranean cruise for 2019.
Actually we are generally HAL cruisers who have tried Princess twice. The entertainment was more varied on Princess but we found that dining, service and ambience were lacking. To each their own.

We have always found the laundry service to be outstanding.

One of the reasons we like HAL is the NYT daily news sheet that includes various editions - U.S., Canadian, Australian, British

The library near me closed about 5or 6 years ago. Money savings.. .
Each time you post we should go to the libarary, I think to post some cities and towns have closed libraries but I have resisted doing that until now. I guess I read that direction one too many times. One must live in a particular city or town to get a libar y card there. If the neighb oring city of town chose to save the money, and closed their library too bad! It's all about tax money, I imagine.
It’s so sad to hear of public libraries closing. We are blessed in British Columbia with a vibrant public library system.

You know that you can always download the book for free if you are a member of a public library and have the overdrive app. Personally I like the idea of a book club and whether you like Oprah or not her book suggestions are usually excellent.

When we were last on the Oosterdam - 2016- we met two designers who were onboard looking at improvements . In particular they were looking at the non suite cabins. Perhaps this will be part of the retrofit.

For the amount of people that were usually in the old style Piano Bar(a lot) it wasn't enough room. I love the openness of Billboard Live.
Agreed.

Actually we have only travelled twice on Princess. Our first cruise was definitely a disappointment. The entertainment staff was excellent and was the only thing that made this cruise bearable. We usually travel on Holland America and are used to excellent service. We found most of the staff on our first Princess cruise from San Francisco to Honolulu to be very unhappy. Service at the bars was nonexistent and the room stewards were sloppy. The servers in the specialty restaurants were arrogant. The captain was very aloof and I feel he set the tone on the ship. We. Had an incident at sea which caused us to miss the one port we had really wanted to go to. The only compensation was a glass of inferior wine at dinner one night. Granted the problem wasn’t caused by Princess but I felt there should have been more acknowledgement of the guests’ discomfort. Nonetheless, we did do a second Princess cruise out of Houston to Fort Lauderdale. It was much better, but still wasn’t up to HAL standards. We probably won’t go back to Princess unless the itinerary warrants it.

We are just off the Eurodam and the band played several evenings during the cocktail hour for dancing in the Ocean Bar.

We have always used the cabin safes with no problem. If we have to abandon ship, I think what’s in the safe is the least of our problems.

Definitely the unlimited wine onboard, but I can understand why it’s gone, but what I really miss is a decent library and the book club n longer cruises.

Love the creme caramel and the ice cream bar in the Lido. It's real ice cream, not soft stuff.

Are there professionally given lectures on HAL cruises?

In the fall on the Noordam from Vancouver to Hawaii we had excellent presenters - an historian, an astronomer, and a Hawaiian group who gave ukulele lessons, hula lessons and craft sessions.
