Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We're just off the Voyager this past Sunday. We did My Time dining the entire week of the cruise except for one night when we ate at the Windjammer (East Indian buffet items were served). We used the mobile app to make all the reservations for My Time dining, which made it easy. The first night we got in the unreserved line by accident not having read the sign ahead of time, so we stayed in that line and didn't have to wait that long to get seated. For the other nights, all reservation nights, we went at our designated time and were seated at the same table for 2, rather quickly, with the same wait staff each time. Some consistency was nice as we got to know them a little more each night. The adjacent tables had changing diners most nights and we did enjoyed meeting them as well, though briefly. The last night when it came to tipping the wait staff it was easier for us. My wife and I were gushing with gratitude from the great service we had received all week long. Seeing how hard everyone had worked, ship-wide, to make our cruise so enjoyable, we felt they were so deserving of extra $$$. I don't know if I answered your question, but for us it was a highlight for us and quite tasty. Have a great cruise!
  2. The cruise dates were October 30th - November 6th not as stated in the title. Thanks..FourTimer
  3. Yes we saw the ice show. It was a highlight. Which person are you following? They were very, very good like always. Triples lutzes were executed and they all had excellent control of themselves for being in such a confined rink. Did the karaoke too! Thelma from New Brunswick, Canada sang the best. Don't know if she won the competition on the next to the last night. Great overall good time with plenty to do!
  4. Flew back to Boston Sunday night from San Juan after a nice week spent on the Voyager of the Seas. It was a fairly uneventful week with standard cruise conditions of slightly rocky waters to start out from Boston on Day One. It was our first cruise since 2018 and I can honestly say that we missed the cruising life! Big shout-out to Royal Caribbean! Impressive amount of personal throughout the ship without any shortage of food and drink in the Windjammer and at My Time Dining on Deck 3. We had breakfast and lunch at the Windjammer everyday possible and I ate a wonderful East Indian dinner there one night as we opted not to go to My Time dining. Spicy ingredients made for an exciting meal that night. Wow! The cabin staff was always available, and we were well cared for. The case of water we had ordered pre-cruise was there waiting for us when we entered our cabin (6483) for the first time. I noted that every RCCL member addressed me as "Sir" or "Mr." without missing a beat. The cruise director, Rob, from Liverpool was a real comedian and belted out a great rendition of Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. Bravo! The activity director, the lass from Scotland, was one busy person throughout the cruise, leading all the dancing activities as well as being part of the Disco Night Dance Troupe that performed and rallied the cruisers down on the Royal Promenade. All musicians were fantastic, including the Spanish guitarist, Jose, who was stationed outside of the Cafe Promenade. It was relaxing to hear his rich talented guitar playing. Can't say enough about the mobile app and all the advantages you gained from using. Whether it was making dinner reservations for the week, keeping an eye on your tab all week long, or adding events plus excursions to your calendar to be notified of them as they came up, it was a big plus once you figured out how to get on the ship's guest Wi-Fi. We booked excursions at Coco Cay and St. Thomas pre-cruise; snorkeling and kayaking for Coco and snorkeling for St. Thomas. WARNING! If you're out of shape and been hitting the Windjammer leading up to it don't book the kayaking. The problem was we were in open water with tides and crosswinds, so it made steering the two-person kayak very difficult. We made it back but there were a few times that I had my doubts about my wife being able to finish and assist in the paddling. The lifeguard almost called for the jet ski to haul us back to shore. We endured and made it back to shore, but I wouldn't do that again. It was pouring rain when we docked in St. Thomas, on what was my 70th birthday, so our snorkeling trip was canceled. Maybe next time. We ended up taking a Tour of the Island bus ride ($38ea) up to Mountain Top. Remember it was pouring rain. The run-off was tremendous. I have video for proof. It was an adventure just the same. My wife pointed out that the tires on the front of the bus were bald. Oh boy! Haha! We made it back safely. I forgot to mention that in Puerto Playa, Dominion Republic, we went to Ocean World having booked this excursion on the cruise ship last minute. Glad we did. It was fun and it is a beautiful place and protected place with snorkeling, bird shows, seal shows and last but not least, shark feeding. We did the buffet which was tasty and inexpensive. Good local beer too! Too wrap this up, it was a fun time. Since it was a repositioning cruise for the Voyager of the Seas which will spend the winter in San Juan, we met several people, young and old, who were going to be visiting family in Puerto Rico after the cruise and before they flew back North. Lots of excitement. Would I cruise on RCCL again? YES. Until we sail again!!
  5. My wife and I will also be on this cruise. I'll have my Red Sox hat and GoPro. Say hello if you see us. This is our 5th RCCL cruise. Looking forward to it! Hope to meet up. Bon Voyage!
