  1. Agree with all above. Can't stress enough to allow plenty of time for return..the backup generally comes from the drawbridge at Simpson bay. Check the open and close times for the bridge. Generally around 9, 11:45 and somewhere between 4-5. The bridge opening is anywhere between 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the yachts. We stay at a local resort near the drawbridge and watch lots of folks very anxious who rented scooters, jeeps and the like who are yelling at others about the slowness of the traffic...know this is the minority but still happens. Have fun at the beach....it's wonderful

  2. If you take the water taxi, it lands you in Phillipsburg and on both sides of the dock is a beach area. I believe it is $12 for 2 chairs and an umbrella. We did both. One time, just went using our towels, second rented. There are a lot of restaurants on the boardwalk and some cater to the folks on the beach.

Only thing is there are no changing areas. Easy off and on to the water taxis. But if you want to walk it is a bit further. You see many people shopping in the stores with cover ups on.

    Hope this helps a little.

  3. Yes you can get them without a tour....

Also barter with them.. When I told the girls at the farmers market what I paid

they said ok I will take that price. lol

Enjoy your cruise. I am already having withdrawals and only been home 5 days.

    Planning another one already. lol

Thanks much... Will be doing a back to back in a couple of weeks. This is basically the only port we have not been to.

  4. No were did a southern cruise 11 days.. but have been to St. Maarten many times....

Grenada was the cheapest place I ever saw for spices... including pure chocolate. (got that too. Will be baking a cake this week...lol)

Thanks much. We go yearly to St Maarten and know their prices well. I appreciate the info, as I will hit St. Maarten the second week of cruising. I'll for sure get my spices in Grenada. Did you go to the marketplace to get the spices? --- can you get them without taking a tour?

  5. Any decision yet? We are going to be in Grenada on Feb 11 and still trying to plan an excursion..were these private tours ?

You must be on of the Adventure of the Seas. We will be on it too, and reading up on Grenada. Very interested in the spice aspect and these ours that are mentioned above.

  6. We just returned from there Friday... did an 11 day cruise (not my favorite island) but best for spices...

Took a tour guide from an open air bus... stopped at a few places and one was the spice store itself.

Got the best spices... omg.. everything from whole nutmeg (great in banana bread) cinnamon which when I making sweet potatoes I boil one stick in the water with it and makes my house smell so nice.

Picked up real vanilla but make sure there is no coumandin it... a blood thinner

along with banana, lemon, almond and so many other extracts. And of course chocolate....

Got fresh spices in baskets that were 6 mini baskets loaded with spices and all for $20.00 get gifts for people at home...

Also went to a rum spot... loads of yummy rums too.

The island reminds me of San Fran. with the hills and all...

We were there during Saturday Farmer's Market but still found the prices cheaper inland

Is it not worth it to go to the market place for spices? Did you go to St. Maarten? IF so, Were the spices cheaper there?-- In Marigot open market from the spice guy?

  7. DH just booked a dive through Carnival - anyone know which dive company they use?

When are you going? I'm trying to book one for my husband. Thanks

I'd be interested in knowing too.
