    Hello,

yes he is & has been great.  In fact has just delivered dinner so we can eat on our balcony

He's wonderful isn't he. He delivered dinner to us on our balcony too, the the night we sailed out of Flaam, such a lovely evening dining and watching the fjords pass by. My mum wanted to take him home with her! Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

  2. We got off the week before Joan. She hasn't mentioned the smell on deck 6/7 around the atrium so I guess that has gone now. For the first 4 days of our cruise the odour of sewage was VERY strong, I wouldn't have sat in the Blue Bar for anything! Our suite was very clean and well cared for, much better than I thought it would be, but some areas are in need of that refurb.

I have to say that we din't notice the 750 kids, but we live in Italy so find British kids well behaved 🙂

  3. Oriana will always hold a place in my heart,. As a travel agency manager I was offered my first ever educational on her, a 10 day trip  to the Canaries. What a wonderful experience, I would never have tried cruising without her, and I encouraged many friends and clients to try her out. Needless to say they loved her too. Buon viaggio 😪

  4. It also has a lot to do with the speakers and they way they are tuned. In the past ships used to use higher quality equipment, now they use cheaper alternatives which themselves are using cheaper and cheaper components. When you add in the fact that the systems are not now professionally tuned, the result harsh sound. It's not necessarily the level which is always to blame, just the quality.

  5. I would say that if you think you've booked an obstructed balcony, you've paid for an obstructed balcony and you get an obstructed balcony you haven't lost anything. If you really don't want an obstructed balcony you should call and see what they can do, you won't be in a worse position than you are now and at least you'll know!

in a perfect world those who wish not to participate in formal nights would use the facilities offered to them, but no they wish to change them to suit themselves so people who wish to participate believe they have to defend formal nights.

it would be totally relaxed if people go along with the dining arrangements made by P&O.

Ok. So just imagine you are a lady who is in her 70's/80's. You can no longer wear 'nice' shoes because you have bad feet. Due to a heart problem you have swollen red and purple legs (you could also easily be younger with Psoriasis or maybe an artificial limb) so you don't want to put your legs on view of all and sundry in a dress.

How would you feel if you were frowned upon for wanting to eat in the main dining room? You may have gone through something others have no idea about. Why should you be judged and not be allowed to participate?

I know this is not the situation in every/most cases, but really, people should not judge others. I LOVE formal nights and I wouldn't want to see the end of them, but there are staff on the payroll who should deal with 'flouting' of the regulations not other guests.

I think that you are spot on the mark there. If gentlemen are required to wear dinner jackets or lounge suits, ladies should be required to dress to the equivalent standard of formality and wear evening gowns or cocktail dresses. "Slacks and a nice top" should be no more acceptable for ladies than it is for gentlemen.

    Tin hat on!

I love dressing up, but if I saw a woman in 'nice slacks and a top' it wouldn't worry me. How do I know that she doesn't have some nasty flesh eating disease. I'd prefer she keeps it hidden. Yes, I hate men wearing shorts in the dining room, but I wouldn't waste a moment of my hard earned holiday getting all worked up about it, I'm there to have fun 🙂

I think it would be wonderful if guests could relax and enjoy themselves rather than concerning themselves about the dress choices of others. It's all a bit 'neighbourhood watch' at sea.

  8. I know this is a HUGE compromise but Lavazza do a Caffè Espresso which is almost acceptable. We bought it from one of the large supermarkets when we were back in the UK; we were absolutely desperate for some good coffee. You're never going to get good espresso coffee without  a 'proper' macchina but it's better than most others. We have a suite on Azura in August and it looks like we have a Senseo machine so we might be ok......just about!

  9. You may be better off getting a private guide who will collect you from the ship and 'whisk you' to the places you want to see. They will purchase skip the line tickets and get you too see as much as possible, including having lunch in a nice place rather than an expensive tourist trap. This, of course, costs more than your average tour, so if you're looking at something economical then I would suggest doing a Rome on your own transfer and just visiting one or two sites. You really need to spend more than one day in Rome, it's a wonderful city when you get over all the tourists, vehicles and craziness.

They are. But next time round I'll be making sure I keep my glasses on before putting them anywhere near my eyes. Picked up an eye infection (the only one I've had in at least 20 years) a couple of days after using them, and I'd hazard a guess that that's where it came from. No certainty, of course, but it seems a strong possibility.

Oh no,  thank you for telling me that, I've always got hand sanitiser with me so I think it might come in useful!

Friends of mine were on the next ship, also an MSC cruise liner, waiting to berth when Opera was involved in the accident - as a result they were 5 hours late and missed their homeward flight.

Apparently staff on their MSC ship stated that no form of compensation was appropriate as it was not their liner that caused the incident.

However, as MSC are the parent cruise line would it be appropriate for them to accept responsibility and reimburse flight costs ?

My friends are only looking for the cost of their flight home.

Any thoughts from people in the know ?

If they booked a full package with MSC which included flights they may be offered something, but they might have more luck contacting their insurance company

Nothing wrong with a good dinner suit.I look up to Sir Les Patterson as a role model.

❤️ it, you're absolutely right Brian. Sir Les wears a suit and tie and therefore fits the dress code. Give me Andrea Zanchini in jeans and a t-shirt any day!

Yes we have and they are a sight to behold!  This link shows the beauty of the gardens and the story of how they were developed from quite a barren landscape is fascinating.   There are tropical gardens, Italian, cactus, beach, rose, Japanese and so many different themed areas of planting.  Its amazing.

Here is a link to a previous thread where the gardens were discussed from post #30 on.

Were going to Norway again later this year and it's the one trip I'd been determined to book before we travel in case it was sold out.  We're booked and will be going again - not a cheap trip but so memorable and impressive!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you are doing a boat trip to Pulpit Rock you will be looking up at a large rock formation from the water.  I imagine that will be rather similar to vistas you will get at other times during your cruise and travels down the Fjords in which case the Gardens would offer something very different.  Just a thought.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do.  Norway is truly beautiful.

Many thanks. I think between the comments that you and Presto2 made the gardens it will be. It's a bit costly (and a ship excursion!) but as we love gardens it would be a shame to miss them. Hopefully we'll get some good fjord views from our balcony so we won't miss too much if we skip the Pulpit Rock trip.

Hi, just double checked and it was our excursion that started at 9.30am so am guessing that we docked at 9am as they usually leave a 30 minute gap. 🙂

If you are thinking of doing any excursions just ask as we did 4 P&O ones

😉 In that case I think I'll give the 10am boat trip a miss, it's always a bit like a rugby scrum getting off first thing.

I usually prefer to do my own thing, but there is a ship excursion to the gardens at Flor og Fjaere, I don't suppose you did that one did you? My other option is a cruise to Pulpit Rock (I'd do that independently hence my asking about original post)

There's a website that will tell you all the times for your cruise. It's www.cruisecal.com and you click on the 'Itinerary lookup' tab.

Thanks for that. I normally use Cruise TT but this seems a better resource. It tells me that Zenith docks at 8am (which isn't showing on CruiseTT)

We were on Azura over Easter and think Stavanger was our first port of call and it was 9.30 am.

We had a fabulous time 🙂

Just what I wanted to know thanks, glad to hear you had a good trip!

  16. Can anyone who's done the Fjords this year tell me what time we're likely to be able to disembark in Stavanger? The cruise port timetable has us there from 0900 hrs and I have a choice of an independent tour at either 10am or midday. I'd prefer the early one but hate the scrum of getting off when the ship first docks 🙂

Well, we are home now and feeling very gloomy ! Have had a lovely time.

Will write a full review tomorrow, but just to say, again, that we had a super cruise. Was everything perfect? No. Does Azura need some TLC with her refit? Yes. Having said that what stood out the most for us was the crew. Out of the whole team I think we only met 2 grumpy ones and they stood out like a sore thumb. Apart from on Oceana I don't think we have had the privilege to meet so many genuinely lovely crew members. They were happy, smiling, joking and were happy to spend time chatting. I am not sure what they are feeding them on on Azura, but we could all do with some of it ! Liked the Captain too, so well done Captain Howarth. We came away very impressed and were a little sad that  the ship did not have any future cruises that we could put a deposit on. Anyway, just such a lovely time.

(And we are not PANDO 'Cheer leaders' our next cruise is on Celebrity Edge, so we are happy to go with a range. It was ironic this morning as we sailed in to Southampton as we waved to Britannia (done twice) and Celebrity Silhouette(3 x). We also saw Sapphire Princess and we have an eye on her now 😉 )

So glad to hear you had a good time, I was beginning to wonder....we're on Azura celebrating for our 30th Anniversary at the end of August (a week behind your Edge adventure) so you've put my mind at rest 😄
