  1. Well i have a cruise that starts tomorrow. We have been nervous for the past two weeks whether we would even go or not because my wife just got diagnosed with Bursitis in her Hip and can not stand more than 5 to 10 minutes without a lot of pain. I am hoping to be able to get her allowed to Muster with the wheel chair people but have never done this. How do i go about getting her permission to do this as there is no way she could stand outside for muster. I of course will go to the normal muster station. Thanks

I understand that your cruise is moments away, however I suggest immediately contacting the special needs department at Carnival and wrangling a rental wheelchair for the duration of your cruise. While your dear wife may not need to use day in and day out, the length of a cruise ship is incredible, and just waiting for an elevator could be the time noted in your post. Peace of mind, rent a wheelchair today. At the very least hit up a large drug store and grab one of those walkers with a seat.

You'll both be thankful you did.

  2. Yes, I understand that Cloud 9 spa does not have swimming pools!!

Not sure why you thought I was confused about that??

I was not asking about hot tubs on deck.

I was asking about "pools" that were open for swimming and their opening hours .

Thanks for letting me know they are longer /later hours than the hours for the spa soaking pools.

We are also early birds but we don't need to soak before breakfast.

Sorry. I saw the word "pool" and was just clarifying that Cloud 9 is a no "pool" area. :D

  3. Wonder how those hours compare to the hours folks can use the outdoor pools on board??

Well first, the Cloud 9 doesn't have a "pool" - it does however have a very large and much warmer "jacuzzi" style spa. If you're wondering about the "hot tubs" on the decks, they are open later (some as late as midnight); but they're shared with all age groups, whereas Cloud 9 is adults (over 16) only.

The actual "pools" on the ships are open later than Cloud 9, and those hours vary based on if they'll be doing maintenance or not.

  4. The problem was it wasn't a "hot topic" it was ordinary conversation and he threw the "n word" out a couple of times. How he thought that was acceptable with complete strangers, in public we don't know. We finally called him on it. Didn't really phase him. We were horrified!

My husband and I may have had that guy as a table mate too! We were on our honeymoon and seated with a family of 6. The father was absolutely horrid! We sailed out of New Orleans and he commented on every person who came to the dining room that wasn't white.

After that first dinner my husband and I went back to our cabin having not spoken a word at dinner, closed our door, looked at each other and asked "what was THAT?" Then my honey made me laugh by saying "it just didn't feel like the right time to reminisce about my Bar Mitzvah" - we went to the maitre'd the next night and requested a table for two as we were honeymooning - we didn't mention the guy who would have burned crosses on others cabin doors if he could. That was almost 20 years ago and we still laugh about it! 😳

  5. There's a website that shows the true availability of cabins - use your best sleuthing skills to go there and see if there are actual unbooked cabins (there may be some held by online travel companies that won't release until final payment date) - if you see an unbooked cabin(s) I would call Carnival, and ask for a supervisor, and tell them the specific cabin# you see available. Sea Scanner - I know more than one person who has done this. Good luck and let us know how it went.

  6. I'm not suggesting this has happened to anyone posting in this thread...I have a friend who went on a cruise (I'm so glad I wasn't there because I could image the ruckus) on the second day she tore her cabin apart looking wildly for her "brand new camera" just bought for the islands she would be visiting. She blamed the steward, his assistant, and genuine strangers for coming into her cabin while she wasn't there and "taking it" - She filed complaints with guest services, and security. Her trip was "ruined" because now she could not trust anyone to not go into her cabin and steal other items. The cruise line gave her $250 OBC to go to the gift shop and buy a comparable camera so she would have photos and the cruise would not be "ruined" - they bent over backwards assuring her that strangers would not have access to her cabin and that her steward and assistant cabins and belonging were gone through. They even had a different steward (senior level) and assistant take over her cabin.

Anyone want to guess how this story ends? (scroll down)

A week later when she got home her brand new camera was sitting on her coffee table, with the manual and all accessories. She'd completely forgotten that the night before she left she'd spent the evening reading the manual and playing with the camera.

  7. Most interesting, yesterday afternoon I received a call from a Carnival PVP who said he was "assigned" to me, and was there to help in any way possible.

I found it interesting since I've been sailing with Carnival since 1995, and have never one time received an unsolicited call from them.

I may call him back and see if I "like" him - in the past I've booked myself, and in the olden days used a travel agent. Since my husband is a quadriplegic we require a fully accessible cabin, and because we've had to book so far out for his needs he's pretty much given up on cruising (I now travel with my best friend). Maybe, just maybe, this PVP can help us navigate this issue.

  8. do we know how much the spa passes are ?

They differ depending on the length of the cruise. For our booked trip a 7-day couples pass in currently $219 - when I compare the price of a "standard" balcony cabin on the Panorama deck (our deck of choice) and close to our Cloud 9 balcony cabin, it currently costs about the same - we'll stick to our spa balcony cabin.

  9. We love the spa balcony cabins on Panorama deck (covered balcony) - the area is incredibly quiet as it seems that there's not nearly as much foot traffic - the cabin itself is a more 'tranquil' decor, more earth tones. Regarding a steward not refilling your products, all you have to do is ask. Our stewards in the Cloud 9 cabin area have all been wonderfully accommodating. We also love that we're a few steps to a "private" elevator to the spa, and serenity deck.

  10. My wife and I just recently got a decent sized airfare voucher and wanted to go away to FL for afew days. We quickly realized that spending the first night in Orlando and then doing a 3 day cruise would be cheaper that just staying at a hotel. We are treating the 3day cruise like we are staying at a resort...its going to Nassau so we aren't getting off the ship. Besides the obvious (its short) what are some pros/cons (or tips) from people that have done 3 day sailings before? Just looking to get most out of short time on board :)

This sounds like a cruise to invest in a balcony cabin, and enjoy the serenity of your own space. Venture out for meals, maybe some dancing in the evening, and if your ship offers it, a comedy show. Indulge in a massage. Find the steam room and sauna and unwind. It sounds like a wonderful alternative to a hotel to me (especially in Orlando)! :)

  11. For those that were cruising back then, about 10 to 15 years ago, what was the going rate for a 5 to 7 day Carnival cruise?
