  1. One man's "obscure" song is another man's (or woman's) favourite. This was the first cruise I had ever heard The Undertones "Teenage Kicks" played by a party band. It was brilliant! The stereo phonics son the played frequently was also a favorite. However I inwardly groaned every time they played "Old Time Rock And Roll", but lots of other people seemed to like it. I think they had a varied repertoire and tried to play something sometime to please everyone.

I think music wise there was plenty of variety on board. The guitar guy I found too "country" and morose so I avoided him, but he seemed to have a decent following. The female trio I thought were OK, but a fellow guest was gushing over them saying they deserved a recording contract in the USA.

I think there are as many different opinions on music as there are on food! Luckily there is enough variety for us all to find something we like somewhere.

I had a great cruise and I'm sure you all did too :)

I am proud to say I have avoided any knowledge of Elton John's music and pretty much anything to do with his life in general. But my DW dragged me to the two EJ imitator shows, and I fell asleep during both of them:D And this after the CD had guaranteed no one would sleep during his shows. I accepted her challenge:p I am told the guy was very good but you can't prove it by me. Now if only I could sleep as well during the night

  2. Actually there is no way to see EVERY cabin that is available on a ship. There is no U.S. website that does it. The available cabins shown in any search engine are the ones the cruise line is currently offering for view. Usually 5 or so in each category. If you are interested in a certain cabin #, you can either call Celebrity to find out if it's booked yet, or start the booking process online to see if that cabin # shows up available or says not available.

Maybe not a US site and perhaps not every cabin but many cabins are shown on at least one foreign site, as I'm sure you know

  3. We has a great cruise on the Silhouette February 16, but we flew down two days early to avoid possible bad weather. Getting a hotel room for that first, unplanned night was painful, as most were fully booked for cruises leaving on February 15, but we got a room for $360 or so in a not very nice Marriott. Nevertheless, we were thankful to get it. BTW on February 23 the Delta flights to Atlanta from FLL were so overbooked that some flights showed more than 130 standbys. I have never seen that happen before, and I can't imagine why. Employees, maybe?

  4. Yep. The OP is mad about not getting a free drink and won't cruise Celebrity anymore. My friends have come to appreciate Celebrity and won't cruise with Princess anymore. It was necessary to prove to the OP that not everyone thinks like he does. Some people actually prefer better products, even if they don't get the occasional free perk.

In my experience "better products" tend to be in the eyes of the beholder, and yet you have taken it upon yourself to be the arbiter of "better products". Thanks, but I'll make up my own mind, having cruised many times on both P & C and a good number of other lines. I'm sure that a visit to the Princess CC site will find many people claiming just the opposite, that is, that Princess is the better product. You see, not everyone thinks as you do, either. Your friends won't cruise Princess anymore and the OP won't cruise Celebrity. Sounds like freedom of choice to me. No need for nasty diatribes.

  5. You are in luck. Good friends of ours, who have turned us on to cruising and have been rabid Princess fans for many years, have taken three Celebrity cruises with us so far (with another one in a few months) and have now switched sides. They took another cruise this past summer on Princess and won't go back again. According to them, Celebrity has tastier food, nicer cabins, and better ships. I think it's awfully nice of them to move UP to Celebrity so you have more room to move back DOWN to Princess.

By the way - they think the Celebrity perks are much better than Princess, where they were Platinum level before they switched. And these are people who thought they liked Princess until they tried Celebrity.

But, if you would rather go back to a cruise line with a loyalty program that is inferior to Celebrity's to prove your point, knock yourselves out. You'll really teach Celebrity a lesson! You are giving up a better product, with a better loyalty program, just so you can tell Celebrity to "show it". Real smart move.

    Wow! Was this really necessary?

  6. We'll be in Aqua in a couple weeks and again on a TA in April. We have no intention to eat in a specialty restaurant because of access to Blu. But I doubt most people could find a restaurant in their home town where they could dine as well as in Murano for $45. With a discount it's especially attractive, but Blu makes the extra expense unnecessary for us.

  7. Just off the Reflection. On the first night they offered 50% off to those dining in Blu.

If you have a reason to want all the specialty restaurants you might want to consider a regular balcny and with the money you save buy a specialty restaurant package. That is our plan for the next cruise. It was our second time in Aqua and Blu seemed better on the Silhouette than on the Reflection

This is excellent advice. The first night Blu patrons on the Silhouette were offered 50% off in at least Murano. Well worth it, as Murano is actually worth the $45 fee but why pay it if a discount is available? Getting a veranda and eating in specialty restaurants is a good idea unless Aqua is on a huge discount. But the food in the MDR our just completed Silhouette cruise was very good by my standards ( which are pretty demanding, I am told). The soups were watery but tasty, and this was the weakest point of the meals.

  8. In all the years we listed on a pre-10AM flight, I believe we missed only one of them. Do the walkoff for sure. As already mentioned, the TSA precheck is now a help. Incidentally, on the day we missed the flight, we rolled over to the next flight as a standby. Worked for us. Good luck

  9. We found the towel animals amusing on the first few cruises where we received them.

On cruises after that we were indifferent to them until a cruise where we heard someone innocently inquire about the wasted resouces, detergent and water for all those towels that needed to be re-washed.

The reply from the environmental officer was that no such waste occurs because as soon as the cabin stewards take the towel animals apart, they refold the towels and hang them in the bathroom.

That turned us off on towel animals, not wanting bath towels that have previously been pawed over as towel animals. :D

    Are you serious?

  10. Thinking about other threads about mold in bathrooms the attendants should probably spend more time cleaning and not time making tacky towel animals.........

Probably a legitimate observation and I could not care less about some towel animal, but some women apparently look forward to them, and some TAs are cleverly constructed, I must admit. So Let's do a poll: What's your choice? A towel animal or a mold free bathroom? ;)

  11. The site mentioned is very good, however not infallible. You still should check celebrity frequently to make sure you get all the good deals.

As an example, the Reflection TA in April had balcony guarantees listed and they were never posted on the fish site. Even today, they are still available on celebrity and the site has STILL never posted them.

I have also discovered price drops on the celebrity site that are not posted on the other site immediately. Sometimes by the time you are notified, the fare is gone as I have seen them last only an hour.

The bottom line IMO is that it still pays to check Celebrity several times a day especially immediately before and after the final payment date. It is a full time job. Lol:D

+1 I'm listed on three cruises at this moment and I have gotten rates for two of them that have never appeared on the fish site to this day.

  12. There is a "Captain's Club Coffee Break" which is held daily for Elite and higher level Captain's Club members which includes complimentary espresso based coffees. This is usually from 8AM to 10AM daily. The location may vary depending on the number of Elite members on board but it will be announced in a Captain's Club letter left in your stateroom on embarkation day. Some people on Cruise Critic call this the Elite Breakfast (they do have a small continental breakfast there) but it is not the name of the event used on the ship. All coffee there, including the espresso based coffees, are complimentary but they do not allow you to take items from the room, So your wife will not be able to bring back to the cabin from there.

    .

The CCCB is one of the nicer Elite benefits, I think, something I enjoy, as does my wife when she can drag herself to it. Mimosas, sparkling wine, bloody marys are also available, which make it a bit more special. Give it a try at least once.

  13. I must be asleep, as I've never noticed an offer for a suite guaranty. I'd hate to give up a choice Aqua for an SS, but it would be tempting for the chance of getting a real suite. I doubt DW would buy into it, so it's really academic.

  14. We are sailing on the Silhouette in 2 weeks and I was wondering -

If eating in Murano are you allowed to order 2 entrees like you can in the MDR?

I really want to try it out, but my husband tried doing that on the Constellation in 2006 and they gave him a huge hard time about it. His second entree came out when we were getting dessert, etc. It was a fiasco. I want to try Murano this trip because I have heard so many great reviews about it, but I want to know if he can order whatever he wants off the menu.

    Thanks for your help.

I've never had the inclination or nerve to do that, so I have no first hand knowledge, but I think others have indicated that is frowned upon, though getting a second dessert seems possible, if I recall correctly. But why stop at two?

  15. This is very confusing. More than one poster reports that items have either been removed or now carry a charge. The Celebrity rep claims room service is free. Something isn't kosher and I'm betting on those who say there's a change. Hope I'm wrong because I'm a big user of room service- 40+ cruises over 30 years and I've possibly used it 3 times:)

  16. OP Sounds just like some pages were missing from the binder. Had you asked or even looked at the room service menu on the TV you would have seen that. I think it's better not to presume something is not available anymore just because a few pieces of paper aren't there!

But he said he did go to the TV menu and the items were shown as not available.

  17. Prices for guarantee rooms on my cruise are very low now. If I upgraded to Veranda guarantee, does anyone know if the 123go offers are good on guarantee cabins? Celebrity does not specifically exclude them in the fine print.

I don't know if the 123 offer is always available for a guarantee cabin, but I do know that we have received the 123 when we booked a guarantee. As has been suggested, there's only one way to find out and it's a phone call away.

  18. i think hostandy got it exactly right that you first need to be comfortable with them choosing your cabin. As for the perks, i never found them worth it. The canapés are a bit sad when compared to the wonderful food available anytime, and we always get a bev package and end up giving our wine away. If you are chasing elevation in the captain's club, then 10 nights in cc may help but this would be the only specific perk that makes it worth the money. I opted for cc on our last cruise in order to secure elite in the old system, but we both laughed at the "perks". Basically we paid $250 for elite which seems like a good deal in the end.

    +1.

  19. Doing five day cruises over the same route has to be a killer for the crew and boring as all get out for the officers. A captain on a Princess Med cruise once told us that doing the same route over and over would put him in early retirement. I can believe it. Again, I'll say our 12/9 cruise on the Connie was very nice, and I'mm sure we'll enjoy the one on 3/8, speaking of repeating a cruise. At least we'll do Key West first this time, so no early wakeup for immigration
