Are departing guests tested? We are going from Royal to another cruise line the same day.  Trying to figure out how to get the required test done in between.

I saw on a video blog that they suggest you find a CVS, Walgreens, etc. at the port so you can get tested for your next cruise.  They were even suggesting it for any side2side cruises, even if on same cruise line (not b2b)

  2. I have to laugh...the first time at Labadee in 2000, there was only a very small beach, very few chairs and we came over on tenders.  They lost many of the trees in some of the past hurricanes which is greatly needed by those of us who need shade.  I would pay for an umbrella if they offered it.  Haven't been to CocoCay since all of our recent cruises there have been cancelled.  We did, however, book 10 future cruises...some of which go to CocoCay.  We bought the pass for the private beach club that has the upgraded food choices.  Looking forward to seeing Labadee again & the private beach area where I have a better chance of finding shade.

.I don't go to US banks to get euros.  When we land at a European airport, we find an ATM and get cash.  I use a Capital One debit card as they don't charge any fees (maybe $1 for some transactions).

Good to know...I have been pondering when to get some cash.  What about ports (Canary Islands, Spain, Portugal) do most have ATMs at the pier?

  4. You obviously don't know anything about this ship.

All 4 of these dining rooms are unimpressive. We were on her when they had switched to "Traditional Dynamic" (dynamic wasn't working well) so we were rotated (along with staff) to a different dining room each night. The low ceilings made each dining room boxy and gave a "diner" feel. We sat next to a window, which helped but the person at the next table spoke so loudly that I couldn't hear what my husband was saying most of the time. Poor acoustics with low ceilings. All the other ships have magnificent multi-floor MDRs which add to ambiance. I liked almost everything else on the ship. I loved Wonderland! Jaimie's was horrible...uncomfortable metal chairs, unimaginative, tasteless food and poor service. Have thought about going back on her but the MDR issue is really a deal breaker for us.

  5. Agree it does not.

I don't care what anyone thinks of my level in C&A...but I sure love the program. I will happily take the free bottles of wine, drinks, lounge privileges, free photos, balcony discount, free laundry, etc. etc..etc. :D I do care about that...and you can call it silly all you like. ;p It is not called a loyalty program for nothing...and cruise lines are most definitely not the only companies with a loyalty program. ;)

    I love the perks too!

  6. There are MANY cruisers who are D+ with MANY more cruises than we have! We meet them in the Concierge Lounge and it is astounding. The only time my husband wears his D+ pin is on formal night (I never wear mine...it never goes with my outfit!) If there are any issues, when you speak to Guest Services, they immediately know what level you are...no need to say anything. It is like everywhere else...obnoxious people like to throw their weight around...and are recognized by others as jerks.

  7. Never again. Did it on our third cruise on Monarch. Way up in bow of ship, (you could hear the ship crashing on the water) corridor smelled of sewage, cabin was in bad shape, did not have hot water for 3 days...daily complaint-daily visit by plumber...they finally upgraded us to obstructed view on deck 4 (can't remember exactly, but there was a jogging track outside window & lifeboats above us) I am very picky about noise and location. If you can sleep anywhere, it might be worth it for you. BTW, on smaller ships GS are on deck 10, directly below Windjammer, pool, etc., so location does make a BIG difference on that deck.

  8. I've never been able to get further discount after final payment. We went on Adventure on a B2B2B last Nov. and since the water slide and Giovanni's weren't completed, they gave us 25% off for future cruises. since we were on a B2B2B we receive 3/25% offers. We had already booked 3 future cruises which we were told we would receive the 25% discount. Having saved a substantial amount, we booked the 4th week while onboard. We contacted our TA when we returned and we did receive the discount for each. A couple of months later, one of the cruises had dropped in price...we were able to get an even lower price but had to lose $100 OBC...we were still ahead by $300. We don't usually "luck-out" but it is always worth a try. Also, doing any B2B pretty much excludes us from upgrades but we are happy not having to move our stuff.

  9. We've done quite a few B2Bs since flying and getting to the port is so expensive (we are in New England). It makes sense to us to stay in the same cabin and REALLY relax. I've enjoyed all the different classes of ships, but my favorite is the Oasis.

We like going out of Ft. Lauderdale and the itineraries plus when we can go (own a business), dictate to us which ship it will be.

Heck...any ship, anytime is fine with me!;p

  10. Navigator of the seas

My suggestion is to do a snail-mail letter & send it to main office in Miami. I had a cruise several years ago that had major problems. After they received my letter, I received a phone call from one of the VPs. I had all sorts of documentation which I faxed to him after our phone call.

He credited our account for our hotel in San Juan & gave each of us (3) $300 vouchers.

Hopefully, someone will contact you...if they want to keep you as a "Loyal to Royal" customer.

  11. I just continue to take Bonine for a day or so after we are back home and that helps with the motion you feel once back on land. But, if you're not taking anything normally, it might help to take some your last cruise day and first day home and see if that helps. I know Dr's prescribe it for patients who are suffering vertigo while on land.

Thanks so much...I am sure it will help!

  12. It would be nice if they could link dinner & excursion reservations monetarily to the Seapass account but I don't think they are quite there with their IT department (and may not be for some time).

It really isn't in Royal's best interest to have us use our OBC before we board...we would all spend less.

I have never had a problem getting a dinner reservation in a specialty restaurant. I usually book excursions online but after so many cruises, we are enjoying just taking taxis to the beach. Haven't booked an excursion for our upcoming Anthem trip yet, may just wait until we get onboard.

  13. I have never gotten seasick on the ship. My problem starts as soon as I step off the ship. Each year it gets progressively worse and after our Nov/Dec 21 day cruise, it took over a week to get back my "land legs".

Thought that was it...but no...two weeks later I couldn't pick my head off the pillow! It took 7 hours for the room to stop spinning.

Apparently there is a name for this syndrome: mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS, disembarkment syndrome). Okay, when I first found this I thought they were "pulling my leg", but it really does exist! It seems it can be quite persistent.

So, when I went for my yearly physical last week, I spoke to my doctor about it and he said the the liquid in my inner ear is still trying to level out. He gave me a prescription for Meclizine (cheaper for me than buying Bonine). My plan is to take it the day before I get off and keep taking it until I don't feel dizzy, because there is no way I am giving up cruising!

  14. I have been on 22 cruises and have used my plastic steamer on 10 of them until my last cruise in April. I knew about the iron ban, but the steamer was news to me...never had any problems with the steamer before, so why would I go back and reread the banned list...especially since the item isn't listed?! I think the IT dept. doesn't always keep up with the policies changes being made. So, okay, I will steam some of the wrinkles in the shower...

  15. November 2014 on Navigator--bought the cup thinking there were machines on board...the person selling them wasn't sure if there were machines on board! Really??!! I don't drink soda but I love the non-carbonated light lemonades...very disappointed! I really didn't need the souvenir cup...just wanted the lemonade.

As far as them being serviced...they manage to get all sodas on board. The majority of the drinks are water-based.

Frustrating that Royal's ships are so inconsistent.:(
