  1. We learned the hard way that it simply doesn't make sense to do a ships tour in St Thomas, unless you are perhaps heading to St John. Many beach excursions just throw you on a taxi, that you could have got yourself, and drive you to the beach and back. I suspect they are doing the same thing here, with the taxi heading to the Skyride at some point too.

  2. I agree. The only bad info I see is that the OP thinks iMessage works without needing a signal and when the poster that claimed all the bad info said that it needs wi-fi to work which is only partially true. It also works off of cell data. I don’t get wi-fi at work and use it through my provider every day. So it’s either or.

I agree that the OP got some bad info somewhere, but when someone replies with "lots of bad info" they are usually referring to replies. I didn't see any bad info in any of the replies.

  3. Yikes! Tons of bad information here. Imessage uses Wi-Fi. If you purchase a Wi-Fi plan on the ship the iPhone can message other iPhones anywhere using the ships wifi. But when you get on the ship put phones in airplane mode to turn off cell data no matter what or you will be paying for roaming.

How is there any bad information? Isn't everyone else saying pretty much the same thing you are?

  4. Great video. Thank you for sharing! :) I have been snorkeling there also (2017), some of the best snorkeling I have experienced.

have a few questions: Did you end up getting chairs to the left? How did the rum punch taste? :)

    Thank you.

We did get chairs to the left. They were fine, but the area is a little cramped and under a lot of trees. I think it would be worth it to just fork over the extra $50pp for chairs at Sugar Beach Resort. I really don't recall the rum punch, so apparently it wasn't memorable.

I wasn't really that impressed with the snorkeling. Lots of great fish as you can see in the video, but the reef was pretty much dead otherwise. No great corals to be seen, thus why you don't see much else on the snorkeling front in that video. There really wasn't anything else to show other than that school of fish.

  5. We did the Jalousie Beach Break a few years ago with Spencer Ambrose. Unless you want to pay an additional $50 per chair to rent a chair from the Sugar Beach Resort, you will be delegated to a small area of the beach to the left of the dock with limited number of loungers. Now, Spencer's boats can usually get there pretty fast before the other tours make it there, but it really isn't ideal. I am not sure I would do it again unless I was willing to fork out the additional $50pp to rent chairs in the larger and less cramped section of the beach in front of the Sugar Beach Resort. The beach is pretty cool and the view of the Pitons from land and sea is awesome. I did finally make a video of our Jalousie Beach Break excursion if anyone wants to check it out.

  6. We haven't been yet, but don't they give you the wristbands at the Comfort Inn when you checkin?

Also, how is $120 pp a bargain for the day, doen't the cruise lines only charge about $129pp for one of their excursions?

  7. Checking our cruise price today, we noticed a price drop of net $25. Not really a lot to fuss over. It is net $25 because the price came down a fair bit, but we lose some of the OBC. $175 drops to $100. We have however used our OBC to purchase two of the four night dining packages on the Allure. What happens if we try to take advantage of such a situation. We charged our credit card for $25 for the two dining packages. However, if we were to take advantage of the drop, we would no longer have a $175 OBC and it would only be $100. So that would means our OBC would now be short $75 to cover the two dining packages. What happens? Can you even take the price drop where you lose OBC if you have already spent the OBC for pre-purchased items?

  8. Step 1. Film yourself doing cruisy things on board random cruise

Step 2. Post "vlog" on YouTube & get subscribers

Step 3. Get discounted cruise fare becasue you are now an "influencer???"

Is that how the new gig economy works?

The majority of this content is terrible. This is the 2018 version of your uncle's 1980 slideshow of his trip to the Bahamas.

You know, everybody gather on the couch, lights go down, turn stereo on for "mood music" and then fire away for 8 trays of bad photos featuring Morty and the gang.

We used to do everything possible to avoid that day, and now we willingly subject ourselves to it on YouTube while putting coin in their pocket.

How do you spell "SUCKERS" again?

I hope these people are turning a profit, because why else would you post these vidoes? Does the whole world really need to know what you ate on the Carnival Whatsit for dinner?

Just know that everytime you hit "subscribe" on one of these things, you just discounted their next trip, not yours.

Creating content certainly isn't easy. The amount of money one makes from these videos is usually a pittance. Google doesn't just start paying you because you throw up a few videos. There are minimum metrics you need to meet before you can even monetize your videos. If someone can make a go of it, more power to them. No one is making you watch.

  9. Also the other perk for BW balcony is four people for Johnny Rockets. Can two people go twice? Can four people go at different time or is there a slip of paper that you hand in one meal for four.

It’s a meal at JR’s for up to 4 people.

If you have a cabin with 4 in it you get a meal for 4, if you have a cabin with 2 you get a meal for 2

For a cabin for two, can they take two from another cabin that perhaps aren't in a boardwalk balcony.

  10. Seeing similar on our Boardwalk balcony reservation details;

Nothing gets you closer to the action than a Boardwalk View Balcony. Overlooking the colorful and fun-filled BALrdwalk neighborhood, these unique accommodations include exclusive DINE. DRINK. DISCOVER complimentary amenities available only to Park View Balcony guests:

    • Classic hamburgers and more at a complimentary meal for four at Johnny Rockets®.
    • Enjoy unlimited soft drinks throughout the cruise with a soda package for two guests.
    • Tackle the Rock Climbing Wall at an session for the entire family.

I had seen this mentioned before by some vloogers on Oasis from a couple years ago. I wasn't sure if it was just a special promotion. It seems like a pretty decent deal. Perhaps we could convince co-travelers to upgrade from their interiors to the boardwalk balcony. After considering the perks they would get with Boardwalk, they would really only paying $90 more for the view and balcony vs what they are paying for the interior. Not counting the rock climbing wall session, it seems that the beenies add up to about $145. Currently the Boardwalk also comes with an extra $75 in OBC. So about $220 in extra perks vs a $310 increase for the Boardwalk Balcony vs their currently booked interior. Does anyone know if you have to pay the gratuities on the drink package, or is that included too?

  11. I think I have become spoiled by gimbals and stabilization. Watching videos where the camera is moving and bouncing as the person carrying it walks makes the videos almost unwatchable for me. That's part of the reason I haven't uploaded any videos so far. I can't stand bouncy videos! I am investing in a gimbal and a Rode mic in the beginning of 2018 so hopefully I will put up some decent videos myself.

Could you not use the video editing software to stabilize some of the video. You lose some of the frame, but it does help.

  12. No trinkets, no CDs of you singing in the shower, no tee shirts or hats, no candy, nothing religious, no perfume or junk jewelry, just a great mention of them by name in your post cruise survey and extra cash. (If doing a Med cruise, use Euros).

Why would Euro be better on a Med cruise over US$? In most cases they are sending money home or saving it to take home. Do they actually stash the cash in their rooms or put it on deposit with the cruise lines to have it transferred home or taken out when they end their run? I doubt many of them have European based bank accounts or spend the money on shore while in port?

  13. I have a question about price match. I have a friend that booked. The category they booked appears to be sold out, but one category down is significantly cheaper with plenty of empty cabins, about $150. They booked through a travel agent we use. Can they still go through the travel agent to request an OBC by also changing cabins? They are past final payment as they sail in only a couple weeks.

  14. There are of course many courses of thought on this, no one is right and no one is wrong. However, a copy of your passport and a passport card won't help you if you miss the ship or if there is some type of emergency while off the ship. They will help to obtain a replacement passport book, but you can't fly home on a passport card and a copy of your passport photo page is useless to fly home with. The chances of needing your passport while off the ship is nill, so you just need to weigh the risk. There is a chance you could have your passport stolen or lose it while off the ship if you take it with you. When we sailed in Europe, we took our passport off the ship each time. We don't really do that in the Caribbean, though we really should. Obtaining a replacement passport in the Caribbean may be a challenge. There are many islands where there is no US consulate or embassy, Any costs to replace and ship the passport will be your responsibility to pay, unless you have insurance and insurance will only reimburse your costs.

  15. Also you can not get tender tickets until everyone in your group is present.

That wasn't our experience on at least a couple of cruises we had been on. We had to go to the pool deck to get tender tickets, er stickers. Then to the dining room or perhaps main lounge to wait for our number to be called. I went and got two stickers and then went back to the room and we headed to the lounge.

  16. If you are a US citizen, you can ALWAYS fly from abroad back to the US without a passport. In fact, that is the only place you CAN fly to (generally). Expect about an additional hour of screen and verification when you go through customs.

The problem may be getting an airline to carry you. While you can be admitted after proving you are a US citizen, an airline may not want to carry you since they don't want to be responsible to take you back if you can't be admitted.
