  1. Same stuff happens in Mexico. Lots of violence in the country but nobody complains about porting in Cozumel.

Jamaica is the same... if some parts of the island are unsafe that does not mean the port is. That's going to be the place with the most police per square foot anywhere in Jamaica. You will be safe.

I don't comment on peoples opinions very often because we all can experience the same places in different ways. This comment though made me laugh out loud! There is NO comparison between Cozumel and Jamaica. Cozumel is lovely. Jamaica is a crap shoot. Staying in the port area is safe but that is not the real Jamaica. Nor is it the experience most want to have. Also, those saying to just take an excursion-get on the bus to and fro and you will be fine. Not necessarily true either. Speaking from experience which I am not going to share(again, everyone has their own experience.)

What it comes down to is to listen to people you trust. Do your own research. Listen to the cruise line. When they say to not take extra cash and don't wear jewelry and watch your purses/wallets closely, listen.

  2. Yes, both parents actually physically need to accompany the child to get a passport ( or if one parent, death or sole custody papers need to be shown). And, yes, I understand no parents' names are listed on passport itself. What I was asking is what exactly displays when a minor's passport is scanned- do parents' names display?

When I applied for my son's first passport(in 2010) I was present and had the notarized paper they require from his dad. His dad was not present.

  3. We have, since we started cruising about 3 years ago, always sailed with Carnival and almost always had a really good time (I say almost because there was an excursion problem on our last cruise that was really NOT Carnival's fault and they DID totally make it up to us in a very nice and totally unexpected way, so they do get points for that in my book). However, I'm not the kind of person who sticks with one thing forever and I've been poking around the Royal Caribbean website.

I don't know if it's me or if their site is being wonky, but I can't view any of the excursions and they are less than forthcoming (again, compared to Carnival) as to what kind of activities they offer daily on their ships, etc. I've heard (and I can't back this up, because I'm unable to find it on the website) that they really nickle and dime you as far as the onboard resteraunts (such as they have a nice hamburger joint, but it's not included in the price the way it would be on a Carnival ship for example) and things of that nature. So I'm not sure that as a typical Carnival cruiser (working class, not poverty stricken but not exactly middle class either) if we'd even like an RCL cruise or even fit in there because I get the impression that RCL is for "those" people. The middle class.

    Which ain't us...not by a long stretch.:D

Still...I'm willing to give them a chance if I can find enough convincing reasons to do so.

If it fits your budget I say give it a try! There will be things you like better and things you won't but I think you will still have a great time. Be adventurous:D We like both Carnival and Royal and choose which one fits our needs/wants. Our upcoming trip is on Navigator of the Seas because my son requested "the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean" for his (early) graduation present.

  4. My grandson had to apply for a passport for our upcoming cruise. Youngest grandson has received his passport but oldest was notified of a problem with driver's license number and he had to send corrected number to them, which was done 2-3 wks. ago but still no passport. Our cruise is in one month.......when should we start worrying?

You can check the status of your grandson's application on line.

You can also call and ask about having them expedite the passport. With 4 more weeks before you travel I don't think you need to worry yet:)

To speak to a customer service representative, please call between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays.

    Hope this info helps:D

  5. Our first cruise was out of San Diego on Radiance and as we passed North Island(Naval Base) 2 fighter jets took off:D Very exciting! Hard to top but I think sailing into Venice beat it, at least for me(maybe not for my son). I really enjoyed sailing into Naples also. Barcelona wasn't exciting in the sailaway department but knowing how wonderful the cruise you are setting sail on is is PRICELESS:)

  6. Do you think I can get off the Navigator of the Seas early enough to get to London Heathrow in order to make a 12:20PM flight? How early do the transfers leave, National Express Coach has a 7:45AM departure but the next isn't until much later. Car hire?

What is my best bet, or is it to book a later flight. Help!

We used smith for airports for our transportation from Southampton to LHR. :)

A little tight on time for my liking.

  7. Good morning. I have looked for an answer to this question and am unable to find one. I have three teens going with us on the Navigator in a weeks time. My DS - 16, and two darling nephews one 16 and one turning 15 3 days after starting the cruise. Will the birthday boy be able to go to the teen club with the other two or will they have to wait until he is 15 or will he have to stay in the pre teen even when he turns 15? thank you :)

Your nephew can choose which age(14 or 15) he wishes to be considered for the entire cruise. He just needs to let them know at the start of the cruise. From our experience once you choose you can not change.

  8. When we decorate our door we expect some magnets to be "taken". We did a pirate theme one cruise when we had 4 cabins. I decorated all 4 doors with pirate stuff I bought at Party City and then I printed off pages with our pirate names. I also put up a sheet protector on each door and left goodies in them each day. No thieves that time on any of the doors. Another cruise I just put up a page protector and then put in pics from the cruise for example the kids went parasailing and we bought the pic and put on the door. Then when we bought pics from the cruise photographers we would put those in. One day I didnt put anything out and our room stewards were disappointed and wanted to know why I stopped (ran out of new pics). Have fun with it. :D

  9. Hi justlookingga,

How do you decide what itinerary to follow if you are put together with people you don't know? Does Rudy take the info you give him ahead of time and try to match you with similar minded people? Thanks
