1. Us us, that's the same view from Giglio webcam. Some weeks back it was added in the drop down tab.

BBC is now saying 2 hour delay because of storms earlier.

SomeBeach, there was a press conference on the live stream shortly after 0600, but it was mostly in Italian. They got an interpreter towards the end and it sounded like they were staying pretty flexible on the times.

2. 9:30PM here in the midwest USA. GMT-5:00. 1.5 hours until the parbuckling begins. I may crash for an hour or 2. When do you think the excitement will begin? Does anyone know of any live media coverage online or via cable/satellite? CNN? ESPN? :D

If you do a Google search for "Costa Concordia Live Stream" you should find some place that has it.

3. Just being very nosey.

Can I ask our friends on here from around the World how they plan to watch the parbuckle on Monday (God willing).

For me I plan to get up a couple of hours earlier than usual and ,cameras working hopefully, I will watch it through the day. But I know many of you are from United States with a rather large time difference that will put the parbuckle in the middle of your night.

I will be watching from Florida, USA no matter what time of day or night. I have watched from the beginning, since before the first AIS information was posted online in fact, and will continue to do so.

4. I totally agree my friend!:D

Morgan ... No insult meant but i am so glad i never bothered to look at those links .... :)

it sounds just like the one who is on the MSC boards telling everyone that will listen why not to cruise with MSC having never set foot on one of their ships and using everyone else`s photos to justify his claims.

As for 9/11 i cannot understand for the life of me why anyone would want to make out that it was staged!

To the credit of Clive and everyone else this thread has stayed 99.9% on the Topic thread' date=' long may it continue.[/quote']

Again, my heartfelt apologies. Should have read through the site before posting it here.

Mea Culpa,

MorganMars

5. My deepest apologies to everyone. I had no idea. I will go back and see if I can delete my post right now.

Regards,

MorganMars

ETA: Sorry, I could not delete the post, so I have reported my own post to ask the admins to delete it.

6. Some months ago I read some of the other "reports" this man publishes on his website. It would seem he has little real facts at hand, little evidence, but makes loads of assumptions, he sounds very much like a know all and conspiracy theorist. This man doubts in earnest that the Hiroshima bomb never was, any atomic bomb does not work, we never flew to the moon and 9/11 was mostly fake. Ahh well....

It appears to be written by a knowledgeable person with a whole lot of time on his hands and an ax to grind. Most of his argument is based on assumptions with very few facts.

Thanks, everyone. I had a chance to take a closer look this morning and agree with all of you. Good grief, he's got close to 20 loooong pages of this stuff!

Mmmm . . . Only able to multiquote two of you. Oh, well. thanks to all who read and posted.

7. Haven't been posting, but I do come and read. Just came across this link tonight and thought I would share. My apologies if it has already been posted.

http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news8.htm

Scroll down to skip the stuff about Schettino and there are some interesting graphics and speculation that the parbuckling may fail.

http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news811.htm

I have only skimmed the site, so I am hoping that others with more time can read it and report.

Thanks in advance,
MorganMars
8. Morgan ... I would not worry to much about the name calling, been called much worse by people who i worked to protect for 30 years ... :D

The name calling doesn't bother me. The thread has just deteriorated so badly over time. It has occasionally offered a great deal of good information from very informed, and courteous, people. Sad to see a good love go bad.:D

Regards,

MorganMars

9.

Keel Haul .... It was Max who asked the question not Morgan,

Sidari,

Thank you for the correction.

Initially I didn't recognize the Mars bar comment as referring to me. I do wish the mods could do something to reduce the disrespect shown to posters, but I fear that would mean shutting down the thread, so I have just unsubscribed so I don't get this juvenile stuff in my email all the time. I just check in on occasion.

Thanks again,

MorganMars

10. Thank you for the link. Notice the indicators for the watertight doors and the rudder indicators as you watch it, too.

Here's the Codacons video (see link), at 1:32 into the video, Schettino takes control at exactly 21:39:21 hours. He states "I take the conn" then gives orders to the helmsman who repeats his orders exactly. It is Schettino who first states 340 Starboard then changes it to 350 Starboard, the helmsman repeats 350 Starboard correctly. Schettino says "otherwise we go on the rocks" and laughs out loud. The impact is at 21:45:08 hours. This man is going to have a heck of a time proving he was not in command and that his orders were'nt understood -- and now he wants his old job back -- he's definitely taken chutzpah to a new level.

11. Watertheodds, (Love that name:))

I had considered that, too, but then why didn't the crew members get them out. They had over an hour to do so.

We have been told that some victims were discovered inside the elevators with their lifejackets - CostaSmurfette

The article you refer to does not mention the victims were wearing lifejackets. I would imagine they were using the lifts when the power went out.

12. Never would have found it without your lead.:)

Such a small island and such big hearts.

This part can certainly be attributed to them.

"They strive to help people and improve the situation. This festival is for such guys who can get together and do the right thing" commented Svetlana Zhurova.

Thanks for the link you found. Much better translation than the Giglio article.

13. Smurfette,

Would you provide a link to the report about the victims found in elevators, please?

I remember seeing a drawing at one time that showed the recovery efforts and where the bodies had been located, but don't recall anyone being found in the elevators. I do recall some survivors reporting that they had tried to help rescue an elderly woman, but that an inrush of water had sucked her out of their grasp and, I believe, down an elevator shaft. Perhaps, there is some confusion in the reporting that may simplify the question.

MorganMars

A timeline question for those in the know....

Something about the timeline does not equate.

We have been told that some victims were discovered inside the elevators with their lifejackets.

Question is how did they get there and when.

Snipped.

14. Thanks, Micki,

Here is another link from the festival they are discussing:

http://www.taganrogcity.com/sport_by_whole_wide_world_festival_2012_report.html

There is a photo with the following caption:

Within the framework of the festival "Sport by the Whole Wide World. From the Bottom of the Heart", were awarded people who showed courage and heroism while rescuing passengers of the cruise ship "Costa Concordia", which had more than 100 Russian tourists on board. They are: Deputy Mayor of Giglio Island Mario Pellegrini and Giglio Island Port Official Giovanni Rossi.

15. Armitage,

I too, follow this thread to obtain actual news and knowlege about the Costa Concordia disaster and don't like to wade through much nonsense. There are a number of members who share valuable information here and I deeply appreciate their contributions.

And Emi,

All attorneys are familiar with the Straw Man Fallacy and know how to use it. This is a fine example.

Might I make a suggestion to both of you and anyone else that it may benefit? If you find postings from members who you feel add nothing to your enjoyment of the conversation, you can edit your profile under "Customize Profile" to ignore members whose postings distract or offend you. I did so some time ago and it has allowed me to read this forum without having to deal with nonsense, while still obtaining updates from serious posters with actual news and knowledge.

I just don't get it Uniall. I don't remember reading that the charges against Captain Schettino (he's still a captain today) that he "put his amorous desires before safe navigation". I am supposing that the above is your opinion as a learned man. You express your opinion with name calling and sarcasm.

Many have opinions and not all coincide with yours. The Captain, most certainly, is responsible for that which transpired on the night of January 13... the loss of 32 souls.

Emi

I come here looking for news on the Concorida because the media seem to have gotten bored with the story. Yet all I find is a bunch of posts consisting of people mocking the Captain of the Concordia. I think we've all established that he's not going to be winning any popularity contests any time soon, so why can't people just use this topic for what it's intended for? NEWS!
16. VP,

I'm doing the same thing. It requires some study time. I also want to go over the part about the language barriers on the bridge. Sounds like a contributing factor to the lack of communication.

I've done yacht deliveries and can't imagine not plotting the course on the charts and then transferring the waypoints into the electronic navigation devices. Shoddy work all the way around.

Always knew there had to be a lack of situational awareness for this to happen. Just was unsure of the causes.

Have a drink on me.

Regards,

MorganMars

Morgan.... a fascinating paper. I've read it and I'll read it several more readings (with a pencil and highlighter). Thank you Morgan. I might make a few more comments here in the next week or two.

Something very apparent - the sail-by was about as unplanned as it could be - the newly planned route wasn't plotted on a suitable chart, the newly planned route was far too bloody close (0.5nm at night in unfamiliar waters without a pilot??! Part of my anatomy would be doing a very good impression of a rabbbit's nose), and as it was the Captain who had decided on the sail-by, he should in my opinion have been on the bridge before the ship had deviated from the original route so that he had situational awareness.

And there was no proper handover when the Captain took the conn.... and it's (mainly) the responsibility of the person taking the conn to make sure they are properly briefed. Where they are, speed & heading, next waypoint, nearest land (if appropriate), any traffic, etc.... without that very basic information, how the hell could the Captain take the conn????

I need a drink.

VP
