We were supposed to be the March 30th Brilliance cruise.  We submitted our request for a refund the day after Royal canceled.  Our beverage packages were refunded right away.  Today we received our refund with the exception of our deposit. My apologies if this has already been asked, but should we also expect our deposit too? We paid with two different cards, so it could be a bank issue with processing time.  I assumed we would since Royal canceled and not us.  Thanks for your help!

I’m in the same boat. Got all back but my deposit this past Sat. for 3/14 canceled cruise. Both payments were on same cc.
And, yes, of course we are entitled to our deposit back. I am going to have to call tomorrow. Our cruise was canceled the night before we were to embark. We were already in Miami. Our flights were paid for and I then had to pay for hotel for the week. I’d like my money back to cover these costs.

  2. Well, I have an interesting refund posted today. Wondering if anyone can make sense of this.

Cruise cancelled for 3/14, I requested refund about 10 days later. Posted today but dated 4/19 on my cc was the entire amount of final payment but not the $750 initial deposit. Two other credits for $27.14 and $27.43. I had no purchases. So, I’m still short just under $700.

has anyone else had anything like this show up or not gotten initial deposit back with rest of refund?

Wonder if it makes sense to do it just to get in the line? I suspect once they return there may be a big rush of new and renewal requests.

Being yours expires is just over a month, that might make sense if you want to renew instead of apply all over again, which requires more time and effort.
My guess is if they receive your application before expiry date, you’ll be ok. But, I will ask my son’s friend.
Mine expires in Aug. If things are still held up by mid-June, I plan on sending it in anyway for same reasons you stated. Better to be in mid-line than at the end!

Have not done it yet. Or passports expire around 6/1. Unfortunately I don’t think I need it any time  soon.

Ugh, I know. Mine expires in Aug. I most likely won’t need it, but would much rather renew than apply fresh again.
My son’s friend works for US passport office. He advised me to wait as most employees are on furlough.

It you read more, you will see that it only applied to walk in services.  Not mail in.

Yes, I did read the entire articles and saw what you’re referring to.  That’s why I commented the articles seem to indicate you could apply via mail but passports would not be processed or issued, which I guess could be considered suspension of services.
Either way, my point is the confusion seems to have been caused by a state dept. PR person forgetting to write the words “in person” before “services” on the original announcement. Or policy has changed, but it wasn’t the media getting it wrong.

Wording is much less confusing now on State Dept site. This is why copy editors are important. 😀

    The article is wrong.

It stated that passport services were suspended.  They were NOT.  Only walk in services were suspended.

    From article:

So, this got my curiosity up, because as I said, I’ve been checking state dept website regularly and remember seeing the same info as the article states. If you Google “U.S. passport stops service” you will get dozens of articles dated April1-3 echoing that services were suspended.
These articles directly quotes what was on the government website. “Due to public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, effective March 20, 2020, we are only able to offer service for customers with a qualified life-or-death emergency and who need a passport for immediate international travel within 72 hours,” said a March 27 online statement.
If you read the articles, it also seems you can (or could) APPLY but passports would not be processed.

    https://www.latimes.com/travel/story/2020-04-02/u-s-suspends-passport-services-except-for-emergencies

I looked today on the government  site and sure enough the wording is different. The words “in person” now appear before “service” which totally changes the meaning. My guess is someone internally made a boo boo in the wording. Or maybe they changed the initial policy.
Probably more info than you want but I had to satisfy my curiosity and make sure I wasn’t losing my mind.

  7. Thanks, Corby. I’m going with Hertz though. Prices for other rentals are significantly more. Although I will keep checking.

Like I said, my drop off experience a few years ago was fine. From reviews it seems pick up is the nightmare. Just want to find more recent drop off experiences.

  8. I’m flying into FLL March 11 and cruising from POM March 14. Got a good deal on Hertz, drop off at the downtown 2nd St location.

We did this a few yrs ago and drop off was easy — attendant checked us out in the garage and we got on the shuttle. I remember, however, that the line to pick up a car was HORRENDOUS.

I see from recent reviews that situation hasn’t improved. But, what worries me is I saw a post saying you must go inside to drop off paperwork when returning car. This wasn’t my experience and I really don’t want to deal with long lines and hassle.

Anyone drop off a car at this location recently? Pls share good or bad experiences.

  9. Some insurance plans will cover pre-existing conditions if you purchase the insurance within a certain no of days (typically 21) after your initial deposit.

I had to cancel a cruise once for medical reasons and as others stated, my dr had to fill out forms provided by the insurance co. The insurance rep did tell me that they usually approve claims if there is a valid medical reason as provided by the dr.

Of course, every case is different but I had no problems with my claim

  10. If you do decide to take the later flight you can get a day room at the FLL Rodeway Inn for about $60. It ain’t the Ritz but it’s clean with a nice pool and recently remodeled rooms. They have a great restaurant next door. You can also get a shuttle to the airport. We have done this several times and it’s nice to sit by the pool, have lunch and shower before our flight.

Only Oasis and Quantum class ships have pre-cruise show reservations.

Yes, I know we are on Symphony in mid-March. I saw someone on Harmony the week after our cruise say their shows were up for booking, but ours aren’t.

as others said no rhyme or reason

  12. I know this has been answered before but where on the app would I find where to make reservations? Up until now I’d see “Check back later” but just checked and ship info and shore excursions are showing up  but I don’t see anything for booking shows.

You said the pigs were dying and the government setup a similar attraction on another island for the tourists that is monitored and controlled. This is not what happened, at all.  I'm not sure there is even another similar setup anywhere near big major. The original pig beach is as popular as ever.  There is 30+ pigs there.  Just admit you were wrong.

Yes, the government set some rules, but it's pretty much a no man's land at the beach and managed by the tour companies.  They just ask that you don't feed the pigs on the sand, though people still do.

I just read a newspaper article about all the “ pop-up” unregulated swim with the pigs attractions in the Bahamas, and as this poster said, it’s not pretty. The pigs are often mistreated, kept in the sun with no shelter (they get sunburned) and thrown into water by handlers, where they struggle, terrified.

This isn’t the article I read but it tells a similar story. Basically, these copycat attractions are nothing more than an opportunity to make money by those who operate them, and there is no regard for the animals’ welfare. The article I read contained first-hand accounts from tourists thinking it would be a beautiful experience and were instead horrified. I’m sure there’s plenty info online if anyone’s interested.

Don't know if things have changed over the last month, but the dailies that Shadowmeboy posted from his last week of November sailing had Prohibition listed as 730 and 1000 on days 5 & 6  Wed & Thurs.

We plan on seeing both Prohibition and Jersey Boys on the same night, Wed since Sgt Pepper is Thursday at 700 in the Cavern Club.

Yes, I'm reading his review and saw the same. I just checked on the entertainment bookings for my cruise and all that's showing up is JB on Wed and Thurs.

Prohibition showing up on those other nights must've been a glitch. I know NCL website is famous for those.

  15. We sailed on deck 10 on the Epic, and had lifeboats straight under us blocking our view. It didn't really bother me, as it was only a problem if you were looking straight down, but the people next to us were somewhat upset about it.
