A teenager, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire himself out as a handy man and started canvassing near by well to do neighborhoods. He went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs that needed doing.
.....Later that day, the teen came to the door to collect his money. “ You finished already?” The startled husband asked.“ Yes”, the young man replied, “ And i even had paint left over so I gave it two coats!” Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $100.00, and handed it over along with a  $20 tip.

“And by the way,” the young man said, “It’s not a Porch, it’s a Lexus!"

I have passed this chuckle on to several friends who have also passed it on.  Thanks for the laugh.!!

  2. " I can try to think of a similar situation......ahh yes... those who are constantly late for getting back on the bus on an excursion." Shipshape Sam

I can think of two bus tours that I was on

London, England, spent a week in London before embarking on a 2016 Celebrity cruise.  Bus tour which went to Windsor Castle.  Buses park below and you have to climb the stairs, walk through the town etc.  When a person did not arrive back in time, driver phoned the office.  Waited the ten minutes required and we left.  No idea how the person got back as there were no taxis that I could see.

Istanbul - (Equinox 2015) - ship excursion - stopped at the spice market.  A couple were late.  Driver again phoned office and we left ten minutes later.  Although there were plenty of taxis that they could have taken back to the ship.

They need to do this more often on the ship bus excursions.  Some people just think they are entitled.

  3. I travelled solo on the Island Princess - September 16-October 7th through the Panama Canal.  Roll call was not active.  The daily patter published a solo gathering one evening in the bar by the Theater (think it was the Wheelhouse??).  Anyway - when I went --there were mainly groups.  A Princess rep saw me and asked if I was looking for the solo gathering. She then introduced me to two ladies who were not there for the meeting but were travelling together.  I enjoyed my time with them.  (They were trying to visit each bar and have every drink at least once - I saw them again on the ship and they said they were having a great time trying the various beverages -- just not my style).  Next night I went down  -- no Princess rep and no solo travellers that I could tell.  Tried a third night and gave up.  As Dancer Bob said -- seems to be lots of families & cliques.

I am a little older than other posters on this thread but like to join in on activities.  As for dining -- I usually have set dining and have had some good and bad experiences.  Some couples have asked me to join them in their daily activities and others just talk at dinner about day's activities.  I also do not talk about religion, politics etc.  I have only asked twice to change tables - once when a man was very obnoxious and rude to everyone at the table and the second time when I changed from late to early dining.

If you have not joined your roll call - that is a good place to start.  I have met some very nice people on roll calls and I am still in touch with some of them.

There is also activities like Trivia, Bridge, Mahjong etc. where you can meet people.- and some excursions.

  4. Has anyone booked the Sanctuary on PC day on the Island??  Was thinking of booking a cabana (I know it will be pricey) and would like to know if the Sanctuary has an excellent view when entering the locks.  I do have a mini-suite booked so could also go on one of the decks when first entering the canal and also some viewing time from my balcony.

    Thanks

  5. Thank you Heidi13 and cruiseryyc for your suggestions.  Also for the links to taxi fares and transit.  When I went on the transit site -- I had no idea which area I was in.  So this has been a big help.

Will find out when my friend anticipates arriving and decide on which way I will travel.  Also - whether it is raining or not.

Looking forward to a short but nice visit in Vancouver.  Will probably do one of the Ho-ho tours on Saturday as my flight arrives early from Winnipeg and rooms will probably not be ready.

CC members are always a great help.  thanks once again.

  6. Hi everyone.

I am staying at the Westin Bayshore Inn in September prior to a cruise.

A friend of mine from my high school years (don’t ask how long ago that was!!) has suggested that we meet for lunch.  She lives in Nanaimo and would take the ferry as a walk-on passenger.  She suggested meeting at Horseshoe Bay where the ferry docks as there is/are restaurants.  I have a couple of questions:

    (1)    What would the approximate cost be for a taxi from the Bayshore Inn to Horseshoe Bay?

    (2)    Public transit – my friend indicated that the 250 bus goes direct – as this is a Sunday – how often does it run?  Would the bus stop be close to the hotel or the ferry dock?

    (3)    If I decide on a taxi from Horseshoe Bay – would there be taxis waiting for possible passengers?

    (4)    If there are several taxi companies in Vancouver  -- would someone be willing to recommend a reliable taxi company.  (I know that in Winnipeg, I prefer one of the three companies – for service, etc.)

I am not familiar with Vancouver so I am unsure about the public transportation.  Also, in mid-September, it tends to get darker earlier in the day and I would be hesitant to have to walk to the bus stops.  I am assuming that the transit system is usually safe to ride on.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

  7. In answer to your question.  I have used Medi-quote.  They have offices in Calgary and Winnipeg.  They are an insurance broker and will review your sisters medical history, pre-existing conditions and suggest insurance companies.  I have used them for many years and they are reliable.  When my aunt, who lives in Calgary, was able to travel with me - also used them.  Highly recommended.  This company is used by many people in the Seniors club that I belong to and they have all been very satisfied.
