I can't comment on NS, but the Oosterdam couples massage room was a bit plain. We had nice ocean views and the music was soothing.

You go into the dressing room and put a robe and slippers on. Meet your spouse in the day room where tea and coffee is offered. The therapists will come get you and take you to the room. After, you can shower and change in the dressing room and take your sweet spouse for a cocktail!

So really - nothing special with treatment room...thanks for the reply.

We were in an aft wrap Neptune on Koningsdam in December 2019 and I hated it. I'll never book one again.

It was way too noisy - lots of creaking and thuds from the water hitting the hull. Also, you felt every pitch and roll movement the ship did. The seas didn't seem terribly rough but they felt it from that high, aft location.

On the plus side you have a nice large balcony but it is very windy and on the side portion people from the aft deck 9 can look down into your space.

It's also far from the Neptune Lounge which was inconvenient. From now on all future suite bookings on any ship will be mid.

I had asked about the privacy of the balcony...we are SB 8186 on Statendam coming up - will we have issues with privacy?

  3. Have the option to get an SA or SB cabin on an upcoming Nieuw Statendam sailing in 2020. Debating between 7188/8186 or 7067/7075.

DW loves a nice balcony but wants to be sure it's private. Not where balcony is able to be seen from others or from above decks.

Any advice would be appreciated. Either would be our first Neptune class experience and any tips there would also be welcome.

  4. Lots of useful tips here - but i’m glad the real insiders didn’t spill any of the really good ones. I know sharing is supposed to be a good thing; but if everyone knows about them they will be ruined. So remember our confidentiality agreement all you HAL 43J’s.

I can respect that. My hope is that we love this cruise and it’s the first of many adventures on HAL.

  5. The recipe forthwith, courtesy of Copper 10-8:

All the ship bartenders are familiar with what a Wang Wang is, and can make you one

    1/4 oz Vodka

    1/4 oz Gin

    1/4 oz White Rum

    1/4 oz Scotch

    1/4 oz Bourbon

    1/4 oz Tequila

    1/4 Triple Sec

    1/4 oz Brandy

Top it off with Pineapple and Orange Juice

    Add a splash ofGrenadine

I believe you could rename this TROUBLE! That’s what I would be in after a couple!

  6. These are all great tips - thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We aren’t looking for the easy way out and want to respect the traditions of traveling...also balancing the packing etc...it scales quickly with six of us!

  7. DW and I with our four girls are going on the Eurodam July 7 - lots Int conflicting advice on what to wear.

Understand that MDR will has dress code. For formal/gala nights would church type dresses be acceptable?

On non gala nights I would imagine we would fall in the same neighborhood but might opt for nice jeans vs slacks or dress. Would that be acceptable?

If we are in Lido are we okay with jeans/shorts and t-shirts?

Appreciate the help - a bit overwhelmed with all the various threads!

  8. Sailing on our first HAL cruise (Eurodam to Alaska in July) and wondering what your favorite HAL cruise tip is. From on-boarding to dining to cabin tips...what makes you puff out your chest and say “that was good” when you do it?

  9. Today Grand Princess stopped at the split at Sawyer island. In a dozen trips 11 have stopped here. Yesterday I sailed with Adventure Bound from Juneau and spent 2 hours at the face of South Sawyer Glacier. No comparison with the cruise ship.

I love Tracy Arm up close but by cruise ship is about the worst Alaska choice you can make for your Glacier viewing IMHO

And according to your profile it looks like you have the experience to speak to if! ;) I mean...does Princess just give you keys to the shop to take whenever you want?

Friends were on princess a couple weeks ago and had an incredible viewing at Tracy Arm...got further than any ship this season.

    Thanks!
