  1. I think it was being towed by a tug, which was way out in front of it, or it was being escorted. It was the same gray color as navy ships and was as long as the cruise ship but only about half as tall. It was totally flat on top like an aircraft carrier just with nothing up  on top like one. It looked like it either had an "8" or a "B" on the side of it. It was something that I had never seen before either on the ocean or in  a port on any of my cruises. I just thought one of the military or maritime folks on here might be able to identify it for me. It sure had me stumped.

    Thanks,

  2. This reminds me of a picture of a vessel I saw on my cruise in March, I know it's not a very good picture, but it kind of looked like it may have been military but I wasn't for sure. It seemed like it was possibly being towed by another smaller boat that was out of the picture to the left. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

  3. Thanks for the responses, I have a reservation with Avis, so hopefully they are operational or will be by March, when my cruise is. Yes, I have definitely learned to bring my patience on cruises and travel in general, some people just have to be first in line and have no consideration for others that are waiting also, sometimes.

If there is no one else at the counter it might be 5 or 10 minutes to rent the car. The bigger hassle is returning the car at Port Canaveral. Will the rental company have a shuttle to the port?

You might just check and see how many ships and what size ships will be in port the day you are returning your rental car in Port Canaveral. We had a rough experience a few years ago when there were four larger ships in port and the vehicle traffic congestion was really bad at the port going over the bridge, and the car rental shuttles could not get in and out of port very easily. There were a lot of people at the Avis rental car return waiting for the shuttle to return. We ended up calling an Uber to get to the port rather than wait for 2 or 3 shuttle cycles to go and return to pick us up. They may have improved the traffic flow or corrected this problem by now but just be aware of that. Maybe someone else who has done this more recently can provide more input on this.

Looking for affordable transportation from the Orlando Airport to the Cocoa Beach area the day before our cruise. Hoping all you cruise critic folks will hook me up!

    Ready go!

We've had good luck with Cortrans transportation. Used them twice now. They were very prompt, courteous drivers, and nice shuttle buses. We even met the owner as he was on one of the buses when we were picked up at the port. Just my opinion, YMMV.

I am looking at cabin 2262 on the Magic. It is adjacent to cabin 2264, so would you recommend it? Also, would there be a lifeboat above 2262?

I can't remember for sure, but I think 2262 maybe under the back end of one of the lifeboats. Maybe someone else will chime in to verify this for sure. Sorry about that. I will post back if I find anymore info. I know someone had a video on youtube about those cabins, I can see if I can find it.

Here it is, at about the 3:00 minute mark she talks about the lifeboats. She is actually in 2264 on the Breeze.

Thanks! I am in 2264, looks like I snagged a good one!

We were on the Dream in room 2268 and had a good experience and really liked it's location and experienced no noise from the lobby area above. In addition 2268 did not not have a life boat above it and I believe 2264 does not have one either. As far as I know this should be the same room numbering layout as the Breeze and Magic. It was far enough back that the spray wasn't bad, only a slight wetness on railing at times when seas were a little rough.

I found the Alaskan ports to be accessible. In Skagway we took the train. It rolled right up to the dock and had a car with a lift. In Juneau we did whale watching that was accessible as well as visiting the visitor's center at Mendenhall glacier. I think there are also some short hikes that are accessible but I did not try them. We took the Aleutian Ballard excursion in Ketchikan and it was also accessible. The ADA is in effect in Alaska.

Do you remember which whale watching excursion you booked or what company/boat you were on. My son would like to do a whale watching tour and we want to make sure we get the right tour company/boat that is wheelchair accessible. Any information you could provide for this would be great. Thanks

Glory will be doing that route then. But yes you should pass twice. The time wasn’t consistent. I missed it the first time. Got out there early the second time and had to wait over an hour.

What time did they end up passing each other? What is a good time range to start looking? I've seen others say between 11:00 and 11:30. Is that still an accurate time or should I expand my viewing time to maybe between 10:00 and 12:00? Leaving 2/10/19 and hoping to see them pass.

We used KLM transportation in New Orleans. Paul was waiting for us a baggage claim when we arrived and took us to our Hotel. The day of the cruise they took us to the pier service was great. He even called the day we got back to New Orleans before we got off the ship to see if we needed a ride but we booked a tour that dropped us at the airport. I would use them again.

I was wondering what the price was per person for your trip using KLM transportation, and was you hotel close to the cruise port.

  12. I was just curious what transportation you used from the Hilton at the airport to the port. Did you use taxi, uber or some type of shuttle, and if so what was the cost? Will be doing this cruise next February and just researching different transportation options. I hope you enjoy the cove balcony, We really like ours when we had them. Thanks for the review, I'm enjoying reading along as you sail.

    Thanks

  13. Thank you for all the information you provide for the New Orleans Hotels, it is definitely a help in making decisions for us out of towners.

Can you tell any pros or cons for the Hampton Inn and Suites Convention Center hotel. Looking at possibly booking it for a February 2019 cruise on the Carnival Dream. Just wondering if it is a decent location. Haven't booked any air yet so I'm not sure if we will be getting in early to go explore around town or not.

    Thanks,

  14. I like to at least have the ability to keep up with the weather conditions in my home area, especially in the winter when we typically cruise. It is sometimes nice to be able to prepare yourself or change your plans if needed for the trip back home should there be a weather related issue somewhere that may affect your travel. Also friends or family or my own home could be affected by severe weather while I am gone and it would be nice to know ahead of time, should something need to be done. Just my thoughts on the television issue.

  15. Beaucajun, thanks for the thread link, looks like some good information, I will read through it to help me make my decision. I just hadn't seen much information on staying and departing from the New Orleans port.

    Thanks again,

    Stingray

Try this discussion. Uber or taxi from airport to hotel and back will work. Both comparable in price. Many taxis use minivans as transportation.

  16. We recently booked a cruise on the Carnival Dream out of New Orleans for next February 2019 and am looking for any recommendations or tips for transportation from airport to hotel and hotel to cruiseport before the cruise and back to airport after cruise.

Haven't seen any other posts on this subject through the search engine so hopefully I'm not overlooking one but please point me to a post if one has already been created on this subject.

I'm just curious what others have done in the past and what has been successful for them and what has not been successful. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We haven't purchased airfare yet so I do not know what time I will be arriving in New Orleans, but hoping to stay around the $200 price range or lower if possible, don't need anything to fancy, just a decent clean, quiet hotel.

    Thanks,
