  1. @Momis2

How was the staff on the ship ?

Would you go with the Statendam again, even you had the issues ?

    Thanks

Staff on the ship were excellent. The friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. I don't think that I would sail the Statendam again only because the plumbing issues did seem to be something that needed major repair.

  2. Yes, certainly Ruth has the number of days correct for the Medallion Program.

    The Star Mariner Program is:

Star Mariner after first completed HAL cruise or if you have sailed on a ship in Carnival Family of Ships (includes Costa, Seabourn, HAL, Carnival, Cunard and Princess .....)*

2 - Star Mariner after 30 Cruise Day Credits

3 - Star Mariner after 75 Cruise Day Credits

4 - Star Mariner after 200 Cruise Day Credits

5 - Star Mariner after 500 Cruise Day Credits

    * Though you would be called a Mariner if you have sailed on ship in the Carnival Corp. Family, those days earned on other cruise lines do not accumulate toward days total on HAL. Only days sailed on HAL count for HAL Mariner Programs.

This is good to know! We have almost 200 days on Carnival and are taking our first HAL cruise this October. It is a 30 day Hawaii/ Tahiti so we should hit 4 star Mariner on our first cruise. Will the Pursers Desk be the place to confirm this or the corporate offices ?

  3. Just look at my signature and you can see how I feel about B2Bs. I just wish there were more from the west coast. Maybe I need to move to Florida. We started with the B2B2B and even with lots of sea days, it was never boring. Got to know the crew pretty well after 48 days on the ship!

  4. You get off the ship and they "ding" your sail and sign card which is now just a keepsake. You will be issued another one for the next leg of your cruise when you come back aboard. You are escorted off the ship and thru customs ,usually with other B2B cruisers, and a Carnival employee. You turn right around and get back on the ship and go to your new cabin where your luggage has been moved already. Since you are getting a new cabin, you will have to pack everything up the night before. I used a carry-on to hold any last minute toiletries(toothbrush, toothpaste etc). If you have an excursion booked for this day, you just go and enjoy. All will be explained in better detail by someone from the ship probably the day before you are due in port. If you find that you like the B2B cruising, try to book the same cabin for each cruise next time. That way you only unpack once...you can just leave eveything in your cabin.

  5. How much time do you have on the island? Molokini is a great place to snorkel and having done both that & the Road to Hana, I would select Molokini unless it's really important to you to get out and see the island. A Road to Hana tour - while beautiful & memorable - is absolutely exhausting. Having done it once, I cannot imagine ever doing it again. Molokini, on the other hand, I hope to have the opportunity to snorkel again!

Our ship will be in port from 8:00am until 6:00 pm.

  6. We will be in Lahaina for 1 day on a cruise to French Polynesia. We have time to do one excursion and are looking at the road to Hana or snorkeling Molokini. Which to choose is the problem! We will be snorkeling a lot in F.P so are wondering if the Hawaiian snorkel will be better, different, or really similar? We will be booking independently for either one, not through the ship.

  7. I have used my cards all over the world and the only problem I have ever had with a credit card was this year in Key West. It was declined 3 times but I was able to call the credit card company and get the problem fixed right away. It was a computer glitch on their end. This past Spring I made several large purchases in Germany and Italy with items being shipped as they were too large to take on the plane with me. Using my credit card protected me if the purchases never made it to the States. I always carry two cards from different banks and two debit cards from different banks. This way I will have access to money no matter what happens. I learned this lesson the hard way when an ATM in Bangkok ate my debit card and I couldn't get it back. I had to call the bank long distance , cancel the old card and get a new one. I also guard ALL my cards with my life and never let them out of my sight. If a restaurant staffer wants to take the card to "swipe" on a card machine where I can't see what is being done, I insist on going with them. If they refuse , I leave. I make sure that they understand this before I order anything, by the way. I would never walk out on a bill unpaid. Too rude.

  8. We took the tour on both the Inspiration this year and the Spirit before she left for Australia. Both were worth every penny! The Spirit tour was the more interesting of the two only because that captain was very chatty and outgoing and on the Inspiration tour the captain barely spoke to us and I got the feeling he could hardly wait for us to leave! BTW, I think that any child under the age of probably 10 or 12 would be bored stiff unless they had some major fascination with ships. The stairs are very steep and slippery metal so imagine trying to get a cranky, whining child up and down.
