  1. I downgraded from JS to PV 8039, saving one third.

It was a no-brainer really. My wife hardly ever uses a balcony; we have a number of chilly days between Baltimore and the Caribbean. And while a cup of coffee would be nice in the morning on the balcony, we can enjoy a nice cup somewhere else.

I'm so glad I learned about PV. The one we got is just a few cabins from the JS, 8048, we had Dec. 9-19.

On other lines, too, I go for value. My favorite on older Carnival ships is 4K, a good-sized OV room that has the view of a lifeboat but features openable french doors and is sold as an inside (go figur

I agree with you on value. We look for the "special" rooms also. A balcony is nice, but not on our "must-have" list.

We are looking forward to December 2015 on the Grandeur. However, we may just try to snag a last minute from Baltimore before then!

  2. We were on the Dec 9-19 Grandeur cruise in Cabin 7582. It was the first time we had sailed in a POV room and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll try to post a few photos.

I didn't measure, but the room was large. We loved the window and it had a ledge you could sit on to read or just enjoy the view. It was also a plus to have a refrigerator. I thought the windows in the middle rooms were larger, but our room steward said they were all the same size, just more centered in the middle POV rooms. Our bed was by the window---my husband said he preferred that configuration, but I still think I would prefer the sofa by the window. We found out the configuration is bed by window on the end POVs and sofa by window on middle POVs, at least on the 7th floor.

The only negative was that the windows were a little dirty (on the outside) and we noted that in our evaluation. There was some noise from the centrum, but it didn't bother us as activities usually quieted down by 11 PM. We thought the cabin was in a very convenient location---no walking down long hallways!

This was our 3rd time on the Grandeur---we sailed in an Aft Junior Suite our first sailing on the Grandeur. Of course, we loved the balcony and other amenities that come with the JS, but we both commented that the POV room felt almost as large as the JS (However, maybe the aft JS are not quite as wide as a side JS???)

When we sail we discuss how much we are willing to pay extra for a balcony and then make our decision concerning the room we would like to book. We certainly missed having a cup of coffee on the balcony in the mornings and we missed coming back from port and not having a private space to sit outside, but we were very happy with the POV and will probably book one again.

All that being said---we have an aft JS booked for Dec 2015!

  3. Yes Grandeur of the Seas. We dont have a regular Ocean View. We booked the newer Panoramic Ocean View rooms, there is only like 16 of those on the ship I think....8 on each floor, mid ship, 4 on each side I believe. They are sold out on the RC site.

We just returned Dec 19 on Grandeur of the Seas and had a POV room. We loved the room. We had 7582 which we had booked in July. I kept checking to see if we could switch to one of the middle rooms, but no luck---I thought the window was larger. Our cabin steward said all the windows are the same size, but the room arrangements are not---at least on seventh floor. The end rooms have the bed by window and middle rooms have sofa by window. We loved the size of the room and it also had a refrigerator. I took lots of pictures and will try to figure out how to post when I have time.

  4. Who should you contact on the week-end when C&A Rep is off? We are thinking of upgrading on our December cruise. There are quite a few Junior Suites available and I know we can upgrade for the price difference (we've done that before), but we would like to negotiate for a better price. I don't know if it makes any difference, but we are Diamond.

  5. We doubled the value of our RCCL points on our last 2 cruises. We went on an 8-day cruise in February and were able to cash in 15000 points to get an upgrade from an inside. We had a Junior Suite on that cruise and each of us received a reduction of $150 (so $300 total credit) on the price of the cruise. The credit is based on the cost of upgrading from an inside to an oceanview, but as long as you choose a room other than inside it seems to work. We did the same thing on a 6-day cruise in April, but this time we had an oceanview. Nice to get $300 back on 15000 points.:)

  6. Very Clever!

Thanks. It is usually just the two of us on a cruise so having a private dressing area has been a non-issue. I was concerned that showering and dressing would be awkward with our grandson along, but the "curtain" worked out great for us and it was so simple---that is why I wanted to share the idea.

  7. I'm not sure these pictures are going to be able to be seen:

Anyway, it worked great---we just draped the disposable tablecloth over the bungee cord (easy to find a place to put the bungee cord) and used black clips to hold it on. Worked kind of like a shower curtain.

  8. We were on the Aug 23 sailing of the Fantasy with our 16 y.o. grandson. I was a little concerned about how much room we would have in the oceanview and having a little privacy for showers and getting ready.

We had a great time, plenty of room in U165 OV for the 3 of us. Our grandson slept on the Pullman, I slept in the bunk below him and my husband slept in the bed by window. My husband came up with an idea to partition off the hallway when each of us took our shower and got ready for the evening so that the person getting ready could leave bathroom door open and have the hallway as a dressing room. It really worked great. I had searched on here before the cruise for ideas, but I didn't see any thing specific.

We used a bungee cord, black clips, and one of those disposable $1 tablecloths. Here is a picture:

  9. My husband has COPD and struggles going up stairs and ramps. On our last cruise from Baltimore he was exhausted by the time we got on board (long ramp to climb). He would never ask for any special assistance. However, at other ports, haven't I seen another entrance, maybe at street level, in which handicap passengers can enter the ship? He has a handicap placard for our vehicle and the necessary documentation. Would we just ask about this at check-in at Charleston?

  10. Junkanoo Beach. We spent the day there in March. For under $20 we got 2 lounge chairs, an umbrella and free wifi all day. It was the best beach day we've had in a long time.

Are there different vendors at the beach? If so, which vendor did you get all those amenities from for $20. Sounds like a good deal!.

We have been to Sheraton (now Melia) and it was very nice, but on our trip next week we would like to walk to a beach.

    Thanks
