Many thanks. Did the crew say if they were returning to her or new staff would be boarding after dry dock?

It varied.  One was staying there and working on the ship while in dry dock (I didn't know that was even a thing), another was going home and wasn't sure which ship she would be back to.  The others I spoke to, just said they were going home, so I guess it depends on the individual?

  2. Silly question....I have the Aurea experience on the Preziosa sailing next Monday. In looking at my price breakdown it shows:

OBS Upgrade 431-421 - Cancelled Item

OBS Upgrade 704-431 - Cancelled Item

We didn't cancel anything? We inquired about upgrading to the deluxe drink package but didn't do it. I just want to make sure I still have the regular drinks package that comes with the experience.

    Thank you for any insight.

  3. So all my other cruises have had a single starting date and a single place where the cruise begins and ends. But in the fall, I'm on a Mediterranean cruise that has several places we can begin at. It goes from Genoa-Genoa, with stops in Marseilles, Barcelona, and others. I could buy the Genoa-Genoa cruise and have a stop in Barcelona two days later.. But we opted to begin our cruise at Barcelona.

My question is...since the cruise will have already started 2 days before Barcelona, I assume the ship and our room will be fully ready when we embark in Barcelona? Does that mean we can check-in embark any time, even early in the morning?

We are also on a Med cruise in the fall that begins in Lisbon but we are embarking in Barcelona. I didn't pay much attention and just assumed it was a Barcelona-Barcelona. When I went to make flight reservations for the next leg of our trip and saw the ship didn't dock until noon, I realized that we weren't getting on at the "origination" port. I actually think it's kind of neat that you can get on at different ports so you can come in a few days before to explore the port that interests you.

  4. I have lupus as well. I use a wide-brimmed hat and uv protectant long sleeve shirt. Would that work? We aren't on MSC until October so I can't comment on cruise line specifics, but on our other cruises, I was always able to find a shady spot with a chair or bench.

  5. I travel by air frequently, say 12-15 times a year roundtrip. I have never faced a situation where I didn't arrive at my intended destination within 6 hours or so of my originally scheduled arrival. But what it takes is a little flexibility and the willingness to jump on a plane early if weather is coming in.

An example: I was scheduled on a late afternoon flight to Las Vegas when a snowstorm was bearing down on Chicago. The web based computer couldn't figure a workable alternate. But with 2 changes of plane I did and literally walked the booking agent through it needing to get to the airport for a departure in 90 minutes. I was on one of the last planes wheels up as the snow was falling. But I got in the system. And arrived basically on time after a long day. Again, that only works from big cities like Chicago with many options. And a cruise is a special situation where the ship isn't waiting so that needs to be taken into consideration.

We fly out of Chicago as well and usually have no problems and can adjust to fly out and miss storms, etc. (most recently had to do that to make a concert in Vegas). But several years back we were on the runway when there was the fire at the FAA tower. Had to wait forever to get our luggage off the plane, rent a car and drive straight through to NY to make our cruise the next day. Ugh. Now if we have the vaca time to spare, we go a couple days early.

  6. Thank you for info on marseille. Will be there in October and not sure what to do in port. You have wonderful posts

We will be in Marseille in October as well. We are doing a private excursion to Aix through Provence Connections.

  7. I'm very hearing impaired and none of the headsets work for me. A lot of places have written transcripts. A personal guide isn't the same as a transcript of an audio guide, but it wouldn't hurt to check and see if they had something.

When we toured Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower I let the guide know and he kept me right next to him so I could hear him (and I could read his lips).

  8. We are boarding the Preziosa at Barcelona, which is an in-transit (I think that's what it is called) stop. Upon our return, the ship is supposed to dock at noon. If I carry my own bags off, is it safe to assume I'd be off by 1:00 p.m. (1300)? I really want to get the soonest flight I can. I'm assuming they get all departing passengers off before the new ones are let on?

    Thanks!

  9. We will be arriving in Barcelona early the morning of October 12 for a couple of days pre-cruise. I understand that this is a National holiday. Will taxis be plentiful at the airport or would it be better to book a car service? What can we expect for the day -- will there still be plenty of things open, ie. restaurant and shops?

    Thanks for your input!
