  1. IMHO the wait staff do a good job if you let them know. In my experience they will bring you the next night's menu so you can let them know what you'd like. But if that doesn't happen (for whatever reason) there are numerous items on the menu that can be made GF. Even in Johnny Rockets and the pizza place they have special GF items, may take a bit longer to make but is obviously well worth it!

Other than that just use your common sense as you would dining out at home- beware of sauces, limit yourself to foods not processed etc.

  2. We had one on BB 2 years ago while in a GS and it was wonderful. Sailing on Anthem in August and just reserved an OW on Nellie's. For us we like the shade/cover and the ceiling fan, the cushioned loungers, the service and not to be "right on top" of our fellow cruisers. So yes, to each his own but no need to call me a "sucker" because I choose to spend my $$ on a cabana.

  3. Got off ship around 9:20 or 9:25. On the shuttle at 10:05. At the airport (EWR) 10:30. The first shuttle stop was Southwest, Air Canada and Jet Blue.

Thanks so much for this information! Did you have to wait to check in/drop off luggage at EWR? In Seattle we were about 4 hours before our flight and they wouldn't let you check in yet- had to wait in line with fellow cruisers until about 2 hours prior. This was 12 years ago though.

  4. I have Celiac and always have MTD or eat in Specialty Restaurants. Yes, you can ask to have same wait staff in the main dining room (always best to make reservations though). Yes, they will bring you the menu for the next day but they always seemed to have things available for me even if this wasn't done (for example we ate at a Specialty restaurant). They are very accommodating with GF bread and will bring entrees with no sauce and a baked potato is always an option.

WJ is a bit tricky- but can still be doable- especially for breakfast-but I agree with others that you should talk to a chef first thing when boarding.

What ports will you be visiting? I certainly understand and empathize with not wanting cross contamination (certainly don't want your little girl sick on her vacation!) so I suggest bringing with you baggies that you can put fruit in as well as bring from home GF snacks (GF granola bars, GF pretzels, nuts, etc.). I'm assuming you'll be bringing some sort of beach bag or backpack when touring so easy enough to pack these light snacks.

I have not been on Grandeur so can't answer to that specific ship. Your little one can still have a great time with a little planning on your part! Hope this helped!

  5. You can sign up prior to boarding through the RCI website, I believe they open reservation slots ~90 days prior to boarding. As always, the best way to know when you can reserve online is either check daily or sign up to the Roll Call for your cruise, there will normally be someone that will notice this in the group.

When you board you can also use the RoyalIQ app for signing up if there are open slots.

Finally, what I did during my cruise was to ask Guest Service to look for an open space, there were none but they printed the schedule for it, so you can walk up to the Escape Room right before it starts to see if there are any cancellations or open spaces.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for this information!

  6. This is my first time in a Jr Suite, do you need reservations for Coastal Kitchen? And when do you make them, when you first get on board. Is there an age limit? My DS is 16 and he would be going with us.

    Thanks!

We are in a JS on Anthem August 17th and have My Time Dining- was already able to make our dinner reservations for every night there.

  7. Sorry to hijack this thread but to those posters on Cocoa Beach- please take some time to look for 2 14 year old boys lost at sea from Jupiter Fl since Friday afternoon. Boat was found 67 nautical miles East of Ponce Inlet- family believes boys still have a Yeti cooler, Yamaha engine cover and 2 life jackets- if you see any debris on the beach please contact the USCG. Thank you so much.

  8. I live near WPB- the "train" you are talking about (I think) is the Tri-rail a commuter small train- I believe you would have to take a bus to get to the train. West Palm airport is about 45 minutes north of FLL depending on traffic. If you are arriving Friday afternoon traffic is pretty bad going South. I would highly suggest taking a taxi or even arranging a private car/limo from the airport - it would be more $$ but much less hassle.

  9. I like carrying the schedule of events with me. And no, I don't want to lose the paper option for some electronic app on my phone.

Royal could significantly cut the paper use by eliminating all the inserts in the compass.

I totally agree with getting rid of those inserts- such a waste!
