  1. Trish, Whitehorse is the Capital of the Yukon territories and is roughly 30 miles on up from Emerald Lake. Go to http://www.visitwhitehorse.com. I hear it doesn't get the cruise traffic that other places get. We'll probably just do a quick self tour and a little shopping and head back. Glad Skagway is an all day stop for us.....Roy

    Hi Roy,

Remember how I asked how much longer to whitehorse. Someone on another thread what talking about times. They said it's about 1 hour to Emerald Lake and about 2-3 hrs to whitehorse. Just thought you might want to know so you and plan.

  2. Be sure to check out the mile by mile highway guide, it is good. It also gives you links to all the good web sites like the Cinnamon Roll place. We are doing the rental car deal this year too and we will definately try the cinnamon rolls. My wife says we have to have lunch. I say that is lunch. She says whats for dessert and I say we could have pie at the Emerald Lake Lodge.

I printed out the mile by mile highway guide, it looks great. I must have missed the cinnamon roll section. I'll go back and check it out. I agree, that sounds like lunch to me. (= Trish

  3. Judy will weigh in I'm sure and if there were glass ornaments of any kind she will know. I did not see any. Juneau might have something, but we missed J.

I just wanted to tell everyone who plans to go to Carcross while in Skagway the the General Store and the gift shop at Caribou Crossing are worth a few minutes of shopping time. If you see something you like there, it will probable be less expensive and of higher quality than the same types of items in Skagway.

It is worth going to C just for the shopping? No.

Thanks for the shopping tip for Carcross. We are renting a car and will be stopping in Carcross. We heard its the journey not the destination. Trish

  4. People were raving about the Salmon Jerky and other homemade Jerkey that was sold in Icy Straight Point. There's not much shopping there, so it's probably sold in the one building that has shops where you get off the tender.

There was also several stores in Ketchikan that give free samples of their smoked salmon and other canned spreads. So you can pick which one you like and buy it. There were several stores that sold nothing but that in Ketchikan.

Skagway is where we bought our Salmon Dog Treats. Our little 45 lb. dog loved them.

I also bought a Kitchen towel and matching oven glove in Skagway. It was a really good quality and I get to think of my trip to Alaska every time I use it in the kitchen.

Enjoy your cruise and your shopping.

Great Ideas. Thanks so much. Does anyone know about the moccasins they are talking about on another thread? I think in ISP

  5. This is the discription on the web address listed above.

The ORIGINAL ULU has a solid curved blade (Type 1) and is patterned after the original ulu design used by Alaska Natives.

The INUPIAT ULU has a slightly larger handle. Its U-shaped blade (Type 2) design allows the user to wrap fingers completely around the handle when cutting.

    Thanks Trish

  6. Thanks so much! I wrote down all these and will put them on my list. And of course food is a must. The best olive oil and chocolate was in Nice and we just ran out of the olive oil and I'm so bummed. So I figured I wont make that mistake if Alaska.

Someone said in Ketchikan stop in "Good God" and ask for a sample of his Special Reserve smoked salmon. Does any one know if we can buy it there? Trish
