    I understand that the ship is 21 years old, but it could have been refurbished by now. Other "non-luxury" cruise lines have done that and much more. Bu that is a different story.

     

    In any case, I have been using these "small adapters" many times. My issue was whether there are outlets next to the bed so I can use these small adapters.😊

    Mariner has these outlets, but the Voyager videos do not show them, neither the one on Regent nor the ones on YouTube. Not having these would make things a lot more inconvenient, and that was/is my main concern.

  2. We have been on the Mariner and that has at least power outlets next to the bed on each side. Although not USB, at least they could be used with appropriate adapters to charge phones and watches overnight.

     

    We are now booked on the Voyager and the old YouTube videos I found do not show any outlets next to the bed. Is that true? No USB outlets either? In 2024...

    What I was highlighting is the patchy nature of internet connection which relies on so many variables: location of the ship, location *on* the ship and the number of people using it .  I have no idea why everything worked so well during our cruise but am simply thankful that it did!

    These are actually two issues: The receiver issue, i.e. the antennas receiving the signals from the satellites. This can be improved with Starlink.

    The second issues how the ship transmits internally via Wi-Fi. That issue is completely independent of Starlink. That causes the location issue where one location on the ship has better reception than somewhere else.

That said, if you are only looking to send emails, it might work for you. It is possible, however, that the internet will work better this summer in Europe.

    Is it the ship's internal wifi reception or lousy satellite signal reception?

  5. We are on the Mariner right now on the World Cruise 2023.

    The staff and service are the best!!!

    And we have cruised on many ships and many cruise lines. The food quality and variety is very good. We have had better food only on one cruise line but with other disadvantages.

    The Regent package is perfect, at least for the WC.

    We are having problems with the internet but a fix is promised at the next port in Fiji: special parts and an engineer to install them.

    We are on the Mariner right now. Wifi access is not a problem, we have all the bars. But Internet access is just terrible. And it is worse when we are in a port. According to the ship's internet guru it is a satellite issue.

    As somebody else mentioned: just not enough bandwidth. And, therefore, Regent also blocks sites with video like YouTube and many others.

    Right now, we are in the port of Callao, actually waiting to be getting to our pier. They just won't let us in blaming weather. But the weather is just fine according to our captain. Must be political weather. In any case, due to our location in the wider port area internet is even worse.

    It's been 4 years since our last Regent cruise it was awful then. Maybe they're better now? :shrug:

  8. We will be on Le Bellot fairly soon and I would like to know the kind of outlets that are available in the staterooms and at what locations. E.g., are there outlets on both sides of the bed? Are they only power or also USB?

    I'd like to do away with mandatory masks as well.  On a Princess cruise back in October masks were encouraged by not mandated except embarkation/debarkation, lining up for dinner, elevators etc.   From what I witnessed:   People seemed to be using their common sense, when there was a crowd, the masks were on.   When walking down the hall and no one was around the masks were off.   This is a no win situation for whatever side of the fence you are on.   My 83 year old parents just got back from a cruise where masks were mandatory everywhere except eating/drinking and they still came down with Omicron.   The blessing is they were vaccinated and they only had a few cold like symptoms for a few days.   

    My point is, no matter how careful you are, you can still get it.   If you don't want to get it, don't leave your house which would include not cruising.  I'm vaccinated & boosted and if it's my time to go, then it's my time to go.   I don't want to waste the rest of my life living in perpetual fear.    The stress and anxiety that has taken over our society is not healthy and it's pitted friends and families against each other.

    I only have so much sand in my hour glass left and I don't want to waste it hunkered down in my home.  

    That was October. Then came the Omicron wave. In November they required masks everywhere. We felt safer on the ship than at home.

    Please help me out. I am new to these new Princess ships and although we are not going to travel on the Sky Princess we are scheduled on a cruise on the supposedly similar Enchanted Princess. 

     

    Here is the question: where is the Concierge Lounge located?

     

     

  12. This Medallion app is not even a beta. Ridiculous that they force us to use it for planning and pre-check in purposes when they also have a web site that could do it like with other cruise lines. On board is a different story.

     

    I prepared an email to Princess listing the problems I have but can't even find an email to send it to. The email that was listed somewhere on this forum just bounces...

  13. Regent finally responded to my email via our Travel Agency:

     

    "At this point it is too early to advise on these requirements. Due to the current global health situation we are not even sure how visas will be handled for the 2022 world cruise...

     

    I can say that at this time India is the only visa on this WC where the guests would need to send in their physical passports. At the moment India offers an evisa option, but their entry into India might be too late in the cruise to process this type. These requirements could change by 2023.

     

    It is recommended the guest contact visas central as they can possibly provide them with more clarity regarding current processing times, but they are as facing the same situation we are as things are up in the air at the moment."

     

    I also contacted Visa Central but their reply did not address my questions.

Since my wife and I are trying to get a lot of postponed travel accomplished before we get too much older, we have a busy travel schedule. If Regent is going to need physical possession of my passport for, say, 2 months sometime before the 23WC, I’m probably going to need a 2nd passport. Never done that before. If any other World Cruisers have info or insight on this I would certainly be interested to hear. On the 23WC We aren’t going to Russia but we are going to China (Hong Kong) and Vietnam (places I have had to get visa in advance in the past).  

    Jimmcdaniel you are exactly in the same situation we are in with the WC 2023 and that's why I asked this question which still has not been answered yet despite all the valuable suggestions. E.g. I didn't know about the possibility of a 2nd passport. I thought that was only a feature for Diplomats and people that go to countries that would object to travel documentation in their passport from "enemy" countries.

     

    I also contacted Regent directly but they have not responded as yet.
