  1. One more question, I am suspected a potential room upgrade through the royalup program. It has not been accepted yet but I did get a reply stating as a room becomes available it will be assigned up to 2 hours before embarkation. With that said, should I still put my luggage tag on my suitcase when I drop it with the porters? Will they redirect my bag to my upgraded room if I receive it?

As the OP is willing to take an inside cabin, I would think an unexpected cancellation might eventually benefit if it first passed through RoyalUp.  Let’s say a person in a JS cancelled and vacated JS went to RoyalUp; a couple or set of RoyalUp upgrades would occur eventually somebody would vacate their inside cabin due to an upgrade. Royal Caribbean now has an inside cabin to sell.

Odd thing is I have been checking the sailing I originally wait listed on liberty for. Numerous times since I’ve been out on the waitlist balcony rooms and interior rooms have been available but I have not been emailed once to be offered these rooms. Not sure how the waitlisting works as it hasn’t done anything yet. I’m glad I kept calling in.

Yes, that is standard if you want to be waitlisted for a cabin where you are not already booked on the ship in a different cabin.

Okay perfect thank you, they claimed me to be first on the list for both room types. Think I have decent odds of getting a room?

Do you have a price for either cabin type? This sounds very unusual - maybe @Ourusualbeach can provide some feedback.

I was told by both agents when I set up this waitlist agreement. I will be emailed by RCL with 24 hours to pay the full price of the sailing to lock down my room. If I don’t make a move within 24 hours the opportunity moves onto the next waitlisted guest. Not sure, sounded appropriate on the phone but I’m not certain.

  5. Hi there, I am hoping to catch a weekend cruise on Liberty of the Seas leaving the 17th of this month. I am on the waitlist for an interior room and also a balcony room, whichever becomes available first. RCL even took a $100 deposit for the waitlist I am on for an interior room, the agent claimed since I have this deposit down my waitlist position will take priority over the others without a deposit down. Does this sound true? Not sure how high the odds are I can snag a room, seems like every evening RCL lists sold out listing for sale when a room becomes available. Is one able to just walk into the terminal towards the end of embarkation day and book a room that someone no showed on? Any help is always appreciated, thank you!

  6. I wish this not to be such a hot topic of discussion but happy to be receiving replies to my original question.

I do have another question though, I have one traveler that has changed his last name, he has his original birth certificate along with documents from the MN court system showing what his original last name was (which matches his birth certificate) and what his name last name has changed to. Will this documentation work if he brings the birth certificate, and the name change paper work provided by the state of Minnesota? His drivers license last name matches the name change paperwork as well, not the birth certificate.

Or am I best making him obtain a new birth certificate that has his new last name printed on it?

    I don't think it's a fixed time or predictable.

Sometimes when a cabin is cancelled it isn't made available to the public.  They could be in a near capacity situation, oversold or they may have a need for a contractor on board who needs a cabin.  There are many reasons why a cabin that becomes available isn't offered for sale.  Depending on factors for each sail date the result is unpredictable.

I called and they waitlisted me for a balcony room, said it should be likely someone cancels and since I am first on the waitlist I will be the first to have the option to book that room.

  8. Does anyone have any guess as to when sold out bookings are reposted for sale after a cancellation that causes new availability? It seems when I check right away in the morning 6 am ish that is when the most new available sailing dates are available. Then throughout the day those sell out again. Also the week before the embarkation day, the more it seems rooms become available. Has anyone ever observed or have any advice how to catch one of these rooms?

  9. I’m looking to book a solo weekend cruise later this month. Looks like most of the remaining weekends are fully sold out but 1-2 times a day some cancellations must occur and these sailing are offered again on Royal caribbeans website. Unfortunately due to the very limited availability some of these sailings are requesting double occupancy in the room. What is stopping me from booking two people for the room and showing up and boarding by myself? I understand I will still be paying for the missing person but at least I can purchase and obtain the room. They would never turn me away at their terminal for such circumstances? Thank you for any help!

  10. One last quick confirmation, I assume the photo id (drivers license) doesn’t have to be from the same state that the birth certificate was issued in? For example using a Minnesota drivers license with an original stamped birth certificate from Wisconsin is completely acceptable?

    Understand.

You need to do what is easiest for you, of course

But "proper documents" you need for passport (extremely simple and easy process) are no different than what you will need at port for most people (namely, appropriate version of tne birth certificate )

I agree we will be supplying the correct documentation to just get on the ship as it would to apply for passport. My main concern is the erratic processing times. I would think 1 of the 15 passports or potentially more wouldn’t arrive on time.

Now how would you advise to find a good travel agent. Must they be local to me?  I appreciate yours and everyone advise.

    1. In this case a competent experienced travel agent will be helpful.  An incompetent one will increase your work

    2.  "Frustration to acquire passport" - are you kidding?

US has one of the smoothest process to get a passport compared to many other countries and it is a great excuse to acquire a very useful identification.

If any of this person gets sick or injured  in Nassau and require hospitalization and has to fly back later, passport will avoid any hassles related to that aspect.

Grown adults not having passport means they have never traveled outside USA ever!!

Many of these travelers in my group have not travelled outside the USA. Sounds odd to us on these message boards but many people have not left the United States. I agree obtaining a passport is easy but helping and hoping 12-15 people submit proper documents and receive their passports before mid March is what I’m referring to as “frustration”.

    Yes the above is satisfactory.

    • For sailings departing from U.S. homeports, an official U.S. Birth Certificate is also accepted. Guests age 16 and older that present a Birth Certificate will also need to provide a valid Driver’s License or picture ID issued by the government.

For more on this use the link below.

I appreciate your advice thank you. Now just to determine if I want to use a travel agent, that is my last question!

only if all their group are US born citizens.

A few of the group members were not born in the United States but these individuals have lived in the US with citizenship for many years and also have passports. I assume that would not affect the others without passports? All other group members that do not have a Passport were born in the United States.

  15. Hi there,

I am beginning to plan a 3 day weekend cruise departing Fort Lauderdale Florida and returning the nights later to For Lauderdale. The stops include Royal Caribbean's Private island, Cococay, and Nassau Bahamas. I am wanting to take about 25 people with, about half of them do not have a passport, is it worth the frustrations to acquire a passport book for those that don't have one? I am looking to go last week of March 2023 so I would need to urgently get this done, if I chose not to what documents are necessary to board without a passport?

Also, do you think it would be beneficial to use a travel agent? In the past I have dealt with all my own bookings and have had no issues. I appreciate any advice!

I think it is just Atlantis at paradise Island, it has the main casino and the aquarium.  If it has a different name someone here on cc will be quick to correct me.

We just got back. There is a shared ride taxi that you can get within the secure area at the port that is four dollars per person. If you have many people it may be more economical to take a private cab but whatever you do make sure you get it from within the secure area at the port. I think I had heard that a cab was $16 so the breakeven is probably four people.  You can find cabs within the secure area almost immediately upon exiting the building at the port and it was also very easy to get a cab back from Atlantis outside the hotel lobby.

Thank you I will be sure to find a cabin within the port, you have answered my questions!

Take a cab, $7, to the Atlantis hotel lobby area.  Enter the Lobby and head straight back to the furthest wall. You will see a stairway that goes down one level to the Ticket area.  Skip the water Taxi to Atlantis,  slowest boat on earth and you still have to walk to Atlantis. happy cruising

Thank you for the reply! What hotel lobby in the Atlantis is this? I know they have quite a few different hotels on the Atlantis grounds.

  18. We are sailing on the Mariner of the Seas towards the end of this month, we have planned ahead and booked some Atlantis Aquaventure day passes directly through the Atlantis website. Where does one take a cab to on the Atlantis grounds to redeem these tickets and enter the water park? I assume all that is needed is a copy of the pass confirmation? Thank you for any help!

I'm not sure if you can stay past the time frame for the excursion.  If you can't you might want to consider buying your own pass.  We bought ours through bahamasdaypass.com.   You will have to arrange for your own transportation though.  We had no problems getting a taxi back and forth.

That was what I was straying towards, I was planning on just buying my tickets at Atlantis so if the weather is bad I am not out anything either. Then we can stay until 5 pm if we like and cab back to port with plenty of time before the 930 departure. Does Atlantis ever sell out of day passes if I wait and purchase on the grounds? Thank you for your reply!

We did the weekend cruise Jan 10-13. We self carried and were driving by MCO at 8:45. We took Uber to our hotel to pick up our rental so Uber straight there would be a little faster. Our Uber driver also told us many skip the short rides and wait for those going to MCO to get better pay so IF you want to Uber that should not be a problem. The question is MCO at 8:30 on a Monday Morning? We didn't leave until later in the day and lines to check bags were CRAZY!! We have priority since my husband travels 40+ weeks a year and even with that it took us time to check bags the lines for regular were insane. The there is TSA we both have precheck so we had very little wait but again the regular lines were very very long. I don't think I would chance it without precheck and priority bag check.

This is what I have been hearing is the main problem is getting through the airport in time, and pre check is a must to make sure you can make the flights before noon. I don't like stressing about it so perhaps we'll just take the 2 pm flight out. Thank you for the comments.

You don't have to leave the park with the excursion transportation.  You can take a taxi for around $4 per person.

Perfect, I doubt I will even book Atlantis through royal then as I don't want to be tied to their 5 hour time frame, I will likely buy my tickets on site. Thank you.
