  1. We also received & booked the email offer.  Very surprised since we had two cruises booked (Oct  & Dec).  The offer included the date that we booked for December (over the Christmas/NY holidays) on our ship (NS).  So our TA cancelled our original B2B & then booked the offer.  We upgraded at time of booking to a balcony.  Even though we lost some OBC awarded with our original booking, the cost was so much lower that it was worth it.  As mentioned previously, we did have to pay in full at time of booking.  I was surprised to see the holiday dates included in the offer -- ships typically sell out & base prices are higher.  Typically, we aren't big spenders on the ship & never go into the casino.

  2. I also have a feather allergy -- We don't travel in suites but occasionally find a feather pillow in our HAL room.  So, I check them when we enter the cabin & ask the room steward to replace, if necessary.  Duvets are never a problem.

I've made requests beforehand but find that not everyone understands that feathers also includes down!  So, always check 🙂

Would you, or anyone else on this thread, happen to know if HAL has Vitamin Water Zero?  I love the Lemon flavor and have had it on all Celebrity ships.   I cannot remember having on HAL.   As far as I know, it does not come in any other packaging other than plastic, so I am not sure how HAL would handle it.

I haven't seen it on any of the HAL ship since they eliminated the plastic bottles.  I bring along Mio -- it's a liquid & comes in a variety of flavors, including lemon.

  4. While planning a family multigenerational cruise, we ran into a few questions that we're hoping someone on this site can answer.

Many children in our family have the same names as their parents (or other older adults).  Worrying about someone picking up the wrong card, are the children's cards different than one for an adults?  (different color, or other designation)?

Everyone will have the signature drink package.  Are the under 21 cards flagged to only allow non-alcoholic drinks?

TIA for any info you can share...

  5. On Breakaway TA, they only put out the laundry flyer once. When I mentioned to the room steward that I was waiting for the next flyer, she told me that the offer was always available.  I didn't have another flyer to put in the bag but she told me just to write it on the itemized list -- which I did.  So if you don't see a flyer, just ask -- this might be a option on the longer cruises.

  6. We found a wonderful TA and wouldn't book anything (except lone air travel) without her.  Although most trips don't require her assistance, she was amazing when we have had problems on cruises or land trips (getting much better solutions than we're able to negotiate).  Although we don't expect extra perks, we're often surprised with extra OBC (from her parent company) or specialty dinners (from her).

  7. We were on Jade 7/18, 9 day Norway.  Were in mini-suite 11616 -- it was a great room with no noise from above (and we went to bed early since we had 2 preschoolers with us).  Unfortunately, I didn't save the dailies but DH thinks the evening entertainment included 2 nights of the in-house troupe, a singer, a magician, a trapeze act.  We really liked the ship & booked for a TA in April.

  8. Christine:

Hope you having a great cruise. We're booked on the June 2nd cruise. Never been on Equinox, so looking forward to your review.

I know you're in a suite but if you happen to have a conversation with someone staying in a concierge cabin, could you ask about the room service menu? Reading the different posts, there seems to be different opinions on whether there is an expanded breakfast menu for this cabin class.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. any idea on what is the latest time we can board if departure at midnight.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Cunard just updated my TA. Latest boarding/check in at 4pm (starts at noon). Everyone must remain on board for the muster drill which will take place at the normal time.

  10. We've gone on this excursion 4 times - all while cruising HAL. Our experience is that it sells out fast and some of our family members had to waitlist. We typically book as soon as possible.

Also, seat/standing place is based on job asssigned & which boat your racing. Never experienced a lot of spray but expect a of wind!

    Enjoy & have fun!

  11. My DH and I both use a CPAP. Our TA always notes that on our reservation & extension cords/distilled water are always waiting for us in our cabin. HAL has been very helpful -- even sent a staff member via taxi back to our overnight hotel when DH realized he left his power cord by the bedside!

We bring or buy the distilled water. The one time we tried ship water, we ended up with residue in the water chambers. Now if we happen to travel without distilled water, we empty & clean the water chambers each morning.

Hope all goes well for you.

  12. PS - If dh can't use the tub I guess he will just need to shower in the gym. I think that is what people do when there are too many in a room for getting ready.

Hflors: If DH isn't able to manipulate the tub, have you considered using a bathbench & a leg lifter? The showerhead can be removed and handheld in a seated position. A leg lifter, if needed, can easily fit into your suitcase. If you aren't driving to the port, you might check with HAL to see if they have a bathbench or arrange a rental from the local DME that delivers.

As an OT, I also would suggest that DH might consider wearing water shoes while showering (in room or in gym). Even if he can manage without DME, ship movement can challenge standing balance.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  13. Just off the Nieuw Amsterdam 3 April and missed our last port of call due to delayed departure of over 14 hours from previous port of Dominican Republic due to gale force 8 wind's pinning us to the dock and us not being able to disembark. Would you normally receive any compensation or is it divine intervention? We were very disappointed to have missed Key West! A long way to come from the UK and at great expense not to see a port.

Although we did not expect anything, during our 2015 Maasdam Christmas cruise, we were surprised with our compensation. We missed two ports (HMC & IIRC Grand Turks) due to rough seas. Besides port charge credit & bubbly poured at dinner, we were given a small OBC along with a % discount to use on a future cruise. The captain made a brief announcement and notices were sent to the cabins. Not sure why this offer was given (perhaps since two ports were cancelled?) but we definitely appreciated it (& quickly booked our next cruise.)

  14. Based on our experiences, you should be hopeful in getting your lens returned.

We once found someone's address book/journal in a storage area & dropped it off at the front desk where we were told that it would be send to lost and found.

Although I hate to admit this, we actually forgot to claim a garment bag in the FTL port luggage area! I felt like a real idiot calling HAL but was assured that lots of people leave things on the ship & in the luggage area. Our bag was located & arrived on our doorstep within a few weeks.

  15. Unfortunately, I think I will lose the ZPM offer of thank you for sailing with us credit, as the terms says it is not combinable with other shipboard offers.

I just looked at the offer and the fine print stated "Offers are available for new bookings only, are not combinable with Flash promotions, are capacity controlled...," Is ZPM considered a Flash promotion (I have no idea what is considered a Flash promotion). If not, then it should be combinable. This was the only statement that I saw that included the word "not combinable with"

We also would like to book using our thank you credit. So, hope you get favorable news from TA. We'll be talking with ours in a couple of day.

  16. A different type of game show was held tonight at 7:30pm in the Queens Lounge called “Call My Bluff”. We understand three panel members (staff) give outrageous answers to definitions of obscure words. It’s up to the crowd to decide who is telling the truth. Bonnie, our tablemate, went to the show, and said she never laughed so hard ever. Said it beat any comedy show she has seen yet.

Wonder if "Call My Bluff" is one of Gene's favorites. He was our CD twice and each time they played the game. Best show we've ever attended, too.

Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. As we suffer through this current winter weather, it's nice to read about someone enjoying favorable weather and having a great cruise!

  17. Our best cc interaction involved a purchase in Puerto Rico. It was amazing to hear a representative try to explain how changing US$ to US$ justified a foreign exchange transaction charge. That conversation made me wish we still used traveler's checks!
