  1. I'm taking my mom for her 90th birthday and have booked a Royal Suite on Seashore.  Can anyone tell me if I can request a cabana close to the ladies' room?  My mom is on a diuretic and uses the bathroom a lot.  Hopefully there is no smoking in the area of the ladies' room.  Any advice appreciated

Hi  - On the deck plans, 15039 is a connecting cabin.  Did you hear any noise from the other cabin?  I'm thinking of taking my mom for her 90th birthday but we need an accessible room.

    Thanks!

  3. I can see my $100 shareholder OBC for my February cruise online but I don't see the OBC my online travel agent has given me.  Does it not show up until on board?  I've printed out their confirmation but not sure if I should see it on NCL's documentation too.

  4. I just booked Monday for August.  Usually we are in YC but going with a relative now that doesn't want to spend the money for it.  Booked Aurea and on line it says here below.  I've printed it to bring it with us to make sure we get these benefits.

Aurea Experience Benefits: opportunity to choose the cabin and its location, 1 free cruise change (Terms and Conditions apply), modern ships and elegant cabins, MSC for ME (where available), Suites and Balcony in the best locations, Welcome Package (Prosecco + chocolate), 24-hour room service (delivery for free), breakfast in cabin (delivery for free), discounted drink package option available at the time of booking, extensive Buffet with a wide array of cuisine, Main Restaurants serving gourmet meals accommodating a variety of dietary restrictions, free time dining with My Choice dining in a dedicated restaurant or area, 20% discount on a dedicated specialty restaurant prepaid package, varied programme of Broadway-style Theatre shows, pool area, open-air sports facilities, well equipped gym with panoramic view, entertainment activities for adults, infants and children, recreational activities for children, free access to the Top Exclusive Solarium, relaxation amenities in each cabin (including bathrobe and slippers), pillow menu, access to Thermal Area (for adults only), 40% discount on a dedicated Spa Prepaid Package, 10% discount on all Spa treatments purchased on board, qualified multilingual personnel, priority boarding & luggage drop off, MSC Voyagers Club points

  5. My daughter and I just returned home Saturday from this Meraviglia cruise.

Was it the trip we expected? No!

Did we have a great time? YES!!!

All passengers were offered a chance to cancel with full value to be applied to a future cruise.  We chose not to cancel and to make the best of it.  This change in itinerary was due to mother nature.  We were happy we were not sailing south into the storm. The cruise line had safety as their number one priority and we are grateful.

We were in Boston from 4pm Sunday to 4pm Tuesday.  While Monday was a lousy day, we got off the ship Tuesday and had a wonderful time in town.  Since we came from the Buffalo NY area, we had winter jackets with us.  We also knew the first two and last two days to the Bahamas would have been cold so we packed accordingly.  It also wasn’t going to be tropical in the Bahamas ports at this time of year. We checked on the days we would be there and it was mid 60's and low 70's.

With the ship at about 50% capacity after the cancellations, the ship was delightfully not crowded and service was great.  Those who sailed also got a 20% off voucher for another cruise! We will be applying it to our May cruise.  We met some fantastic people and had unbelievably great service.

  6. We sailed POA in a penthouse suite for a big anniversary several years ago.  Found used q-tip in the bathroom on the floor near the toilet and used pool towels on the closet floor.  When we asked about in-suite dining for our anniversary our butler discouraged us saying the food would most likely be cold by the time it arrived. No recommendation for what we should do for our anniversary.  Just walked away.  We saw the butler only three times all week and had to go looking for things we asked for.  The room steward was OK.  We had ice every evening but not refreshed in the morning as we had asked.  We were not impressed in the least.

It was several more years before we'd sail on NCL again. We did Haven on Getaway and it was a wonderful experience.  Personally we'd never do POA again.

We got three, all super high, for rooms not even available within 90 days of sailing.

They do ask for bids for sold out categories.  This is just in case of last minute cancellations they can make more money.  We have cancelled a royal suite on Celebrity a few years ago the day before departure due to my husband being suddenly hospitalized.  Outside insurance is a must!  We got everything back including air fare less the cost of the insurance.

  8. We're sailing in 4 weeks and haven't yet received the email.  We're in a YC balcony so won't be bidding on anything but just surprising to not get it.  Our October cruise we had 5 or 6 emails starting 3 months before sailing.

If your schedule allows for an extra day or so of relaxation before flying home, my advice is to take advantage of it. It's nice to be able to extend the vacy and be able to repack at a hotel before flying out. We've done it a few times, but generally, we need to get back home. Half of the time, I had to fly back to California, and now we return to Europe. While we've never had any problems making it to our flights on time, that is only the case until we do, for the first time. My closest call was on the Escape inaugural from Southampton into Miami in 2015. Immigration and customs were a cluster, but I still made it up to FLL from Miami by 14:00. Most of the time, we are out on the street around 10 or so. After the Joy into Miami in February, we are flying back to Europe around 17:00 the day we arrive in port.

Thanks for your response.  I'm flying back to Buffalo NY and there are no non-stops unfortunately.  If I miss the flight my insurance would cover a hotel so maybe I will try an afternoon flight on the day of arrival.

Assuming you are flying from Heathrow, it will depend on how you travel to the airport. For example

Don't forget you need to be checked in 2-3 hours before the flight.

Personally, I'd be looking at an afternoon flight in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks for your response but I actually meant after the cruise in Miami.  Before the cruise , since I'm flying out of Buffalo NY and it's winter I'll be flying out on the 10th and arriving in Southampton on the 11th.  I'm leaving room for weather delays.

I was more concerned if TA cruises ever take longer than expected and maybe I should plan on flying home a day after scheduled arrival.

  11. I will be going solo on the NCL Joy from Southampton to Miami Feb 13-24, 2024. This is to cross off a bucket list item.🙂  It will be after it's 3 week drydock so I realize work may be going on in some areas during the crossing.  Hoping the Haven isn't one of them.

In your experience, is it OK to book a flight out of Miami on the actual arrival day? I'd usually book a flight around Noon or later. Wondering if there is possibility of a late arrival. Thinking I may use some hotel points to stay in Miami that first night then fly out the next morning.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Only you can make that decision.  We were in a 2BR with large balcony on the Joy last year.  It’s a lovely cabin.  The best I’ve ever been in.  But that’s a lot of money, and a lot space, for one person.  But the tub vs. shower might be the determining factor for you.  Are there smaller Haven cabins with a walk in shower?  If so, that might be a better and cheaper option.

There is a handicapped cabin available but I'd hate to take that from someone who may need it more than I do.  I get around fine but have minor balance issues with a big step in like a tub after chemotherapy a couple of years ago.  I'll have a cane with me for any rocky days at sea

  13. I'll be sailing solo on the Joy TA Feb 13-24 from Southampton.  I booked a Haven Penthouse Suite on Deck 14 outside the haven courtyard.  It's close to the elevator or stairs to get up to the courtyard.  I got a bid email today and am considering a low end bid on the 2 bedroom with large balcony on deck 17.  I see that one has a walk in shower in the master.  My current cabin apparently has a tub/shower combo that would be tricky for me but not impossible.  The minimum bid is $500 (x2) and the current price to upgrade is over $3,000 more.  This is a bucket list cruise for me and I wanted to do it before I got too old or fragile. My husband (who cannot go) tells me to 'go for it'.

We were in a 2-bedroom on the Getaway a few years ago.  The living room and dining table was really nice.  I'm torn on whether to bid or not.  Is it worth it for one person?

When I got there, the Bengals game was on there as well! Rather than traverse the whole ship to try to find someplace playing the Bills game, we ended up just watching it in the room. It’s worth noting that during the afternoon, three NFL channels had been added to the channel line-up on the stateroom TVs.

We'll be on board for 2 Bills games (Oct 15 and 22). Hopefully they'll show them at one of the bars but good to know we'll be able to watch in the room at least. GO BILLS!!

  15. There is an email for an 80 minute massage for $137 if purchased now in the planner.  Does anyone know if that includes the gratuity?  When I go to check out the total seems to be the $137 only.  Does anyone have a price list for the spa to see how much it is regularly - and assuming they'll add the tip on top of that.

    Thanks!

im kinda shocked you cannot use OBC in retail places:

The following exclusions apply: Tobacco, souvenir glasses, ice cream menu, retail items, minibar, room service, promotions and signature venues (Venchi 1878 establishments, Lavazza Coffee Shops, Jean Philippe Chocolate, Coffee, Crepes & Gelato, Starship Club, Hola! Tacos & Cantina), regardless of beverage price.

We used OBC at the stores, Hola and at Venchi.

  17. Our cruise out of the Brooklyn terminal ends on a Wednesday (Oct 25). Our previous sailing out of Brooklyn ended on a Sunday and we had a pretty quick Uber to JFK.   Our airline just changed our flight time out of LaGuardia from 1:50pm to 12:19pm.  Even though I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens, it's been many many years since I've lived there.  How bad would traffic be if we left the ship between 8 and 8:30am?  We're planning on an Uber from the ship to LGA.

Thanks for any reassurance I can get that we won't have a problem.

Did they move the tent? When I was on in April the item circled here was a bus shelter-esqe structure in the corning of the parking lot. We have inclement weather on the way back and lots of folks waited there with bags on disembarkation while someone else went for the car. The YC tent was just below the word "Wharf" that runs parallel to the ship, between that and the deep bus-friendly parking spots there.

You are correct!  The YC blue tent was one lane over to the right in the photo.
