What does the upgraded system consist of?  Is it basically just a few news channels and ESPN that is live streaming as I've read about or is there actually a decent lineup of channels?

there are a good selection of movies, several news channels (FNC, BBC), ESPN and 2 special events channels for sporting events, i.e. Football.  Plus ships bridge cam, location map, weather and plenty of travel shows.  And a selection of music.  We mostly played music as we were in Europe and football didn't come on until very late 😞  We also watched a few pretty good movies.

  2. We hired a driver on the road out of the port for around US$50- (paid in pesos @ 625:1, kinda fun...)

He gave us a great tour over to Varas and the area view points. We were with him for maybe 3 hours, then he dropped us downtown within walking distance to the port.

After our trip, one of the volcanos he showed us blew

  3. can anyone share the pros and cons of sailing in an aft cabin? I am booked in C753 on the crown princess.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Joyce

all pro, no con... our favorite cabin :D

we cruised South America on the Golden in C753 and LOVED IT!!

Consider yourselves lucky to score this cabin, they are usually the 1st to go

  4. My question is, which is the better of the two ports? I'm not sure which one the coral will stop at on our way back to Fort Lauderdale from our panama canal cruise. The travel Summary said one thing, but if you check on the Port Everglades site it said something different I'm hoping the Princess Summary is right because I want to pay for my excursion.

In Ochos Rios we had a great time at Mystic Mountain, with the Bobsled run, museum, pool and bar. Then Margaritaville on the way back.

In Grand Caymen there is not much that appealed to us, but we did locate Margaritaville for some calamari and conch. Can you tell, we search out Jimmy's places.

    I prefer Jamaica, mon

  5. There is also the local bus which leaves from downtown and is very cheap.

I have read good reviews here online. They have assigned seats and store luggage under the bus.We may try it since we are spending

a few nights in both cities.

exactly, taxi to bus terminal then we paid US$7- each. is the price OP quoted Chile pesos?

The bus is very easy and comfortable, you should know some spanish, if not then just ask someone for help

  6. Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding luggage shipment (FedEx, etc.) between the US and Santiago.

Plan to visit Machu Picchu before a 30 day cruise that departs Santiago and would really, really like to not take the cruise clothes all the way to Machu Picchu the week before the cruise.

    Thanks in advance.

try DHL but expect to pay a lot  we tried to ship 5 lbs to

Valpo and they wanted over US$200-... :(

  7. Merlinite will be able to confirm, but another has posted it was the Ruby.

It was the Golden rounding Cape Horn. Feb. 2015. We were in C753, aft corner, our most favorite cabin ever. (see my avatar)

    The morons where in C747.

what a great cruise it was!! except when the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl

  8. I thought all ships on all lines had converted to CFL bulbs virtually everywhere on the ship to save money, and these don't generate the heat that incandescent bulbs do (hence the energy savings). Methinks there is "the rest of the story" which will never come out.

nope. that's the story. Steward confirmed it and I managed to get a peek. burned towel, plenty of smoke.

for some additional context, the culprits spoke what sounded like Chinese (there where 2 groups on board, seemingly all in inside cabins.)

I don't know what, if any, consequences they suffered. We just continued on :D

  9. Wow! I'm glad it wasn't worse! I hope the occupants of that cabin were severely reprimanded.

I'm not sure about a reprimand, but I did hear them ask for a new cabin because theirs was full of smoke. The hotel manager told them the ship was sold out but he would see to it the cabin was "refreshed".

    man o man

  10. There was a recent thread re: smoking and fires. Here's my story...

We are aft somewhere in the Pacific Ocean when the phone rings with an automated message advising that a fire alarm has sounded in our area and instructing us to report to our muster station.

Our station was the Vista Lounge where a magic show was taking place

I grabbed the camera and entered the passageway to be greeted by smoke!!

Turns out the Darwin Award winners in the adjacent inside cabin had draped a towel over the lamp to mute the light while they went to dinner and karaoke...

The Captain showed up (this is 11 pm) and I got reprimanded for taking this photo

We always turn EVERYTHING off when we leave... :D
