have not been on viva, but it's essentially the same build from the same shipbuilders. it would be wrong of us to assume that it has the same problem as the prima with regard to stateroom noise, but it could.
as for what that specific problem is... there are a number of reports, including my own lengthy thread here on cruise critic, in which people describe cabins with persistent creaking the likes of which they have never heard before on any other ship. this is not the normal creaking one might hear in any cabin while traveling at sea... these are loud and disruptive creaking noises at high seas that will keep you awake through most of the night. NCL knows of the problem, guest services has the affected cabins documented in the system, but NCL continues to sell the cabins and wait till the affected guests are onboard to see if they complain. if they do, they are generally given $500 per person in OBC as compensation.
on my sailing last may, i lost three (or maybe four) nights sleep and had to sleep on the bathroom floor before NCL got its act together and found an additional room for me to sleep in. i was lucky because the ship was not at full capacity. if it had been, there would have been no cabin to move me to.
most of the affected rooms are aft and they include club balcony and haven rooms.
Good to know my room was pretty much 2 floors above infinity pool port side.
Cabin was super quiet, never heard us even dock.
i changed my june viva cruise cabin more forward, to have my balcony area "more private "

one and done.
(actually two and done. i did a 21 day B2B.)
it's possible to have a good time on the prima if you manage to escape the chronic problems, such as the demonic staterooms designed to torment and inflict auditory pain. you just can't guarantee being able to avoid that, so it's not worth the risk.
you can live with the limited indoor space, the small venues and the absentee and dispassionate executive leadership team, but if you get one of those staterooms, your holiday is ruined. and if you're very lucky, all you're likely to get is $500 back in compensation from NCL.
i'd sail the aqua, and maybe even the viva, but never again on the prima.
What staterooms are you referring to.
Have sailed on Viva and have another trip booked.
What is different prima/viva?thanks

Oh and No Joke Nicest Spa at sea and worth the spa pass price!
Also Big Con for balcony peeps.
I purposely choose my balconies to look straight down at ocean. This ship does not have this option.
Again, i have booked this ship again just moved cabin to slightly less busy area.

Did the 9 day itinerary I think 12/29 to southern Caribbean.
Easiest Embarkation, i arrived 2 walked on ship and room was ready.
Ship felt very Luxurious, I appreciated the multiple smaller venues.
Buffet is small but very good and many more options and seating if you look.Stateroom easily has the best bathroom/ shower at sea.
I liked cruising from San Juan, yes it definitely had lit of latin music live, i think people dressed nicer than a normal Caribbean cruise.:-)
They didnt get their act together for the Beetlejuice show. "Technical" difficulties.
anyway im not a complainer and i have never had a bad cruise.
Cons
Need extended Buffet hours.
DisEmbarkation nightmare but i think that was a fluke
Honestly I loved the ship and we are booked again from Rome n June.

I think NY would work fine if they could change the usual winter itinerary.
port canaveral, private island amd bahamas.
all which can be hit and miss weather.
They need more sailings farther south including 2 wknds.

I called NCL regarding my Viva cruise from rome to venice. Including croatia, malta and corfu.
They stated they will be selling alcohol at all ports!
-
Hmmmmm, I remember a few years back in europe they taxed beverages when in port.
i was just on the viva and they Did tax beverages in some ports. Specifically San Juan, embarkation and st thomas. Maybe one other.
i will be sailing on viva for 10 day out of rome. If they-are NOT serving alcohol, that is terrible and i will be calling!!

Any recent experience ?

No, you do not get Thermal Spa access with a spa treatment. As far as being sold out, it's possible since it's not showing on the app. But best to check as soon as you get on board to see if there are any passes left.
Hmmm. I hope i am able to purchase once onboard!

We stayed at the Hilton Nordica in Reykjavik and the taxis were waiting outside the hotel to take us to the cruise port. I don't remember exactly how much the charge was.
Just curious. Are you a Diamond with hilton? If so how was their perks?

Hi. Looking at the May 2024 cruise from Iceland to London via Norway and Belgium, Amdterdam on the Prima.
It also does the reverse.
Statistically is there a better direction to sail for smoother seas?
Thanks

Hi, I am sailing the Viva out of San Juan in Dec 🙂
Trying to set my expectations…..
-Can a regular balcony cabin purchase a spa pass?
-before boarding? When? (I’m Gold)
-Does this include all rooms… salt room, sauna , ice room etc…
Haven’t cruised since 2020 so I feel all out of sorts lolThanks

I assume that's why the letter specifically states: "These guests will receive a refund for their cruise provided they provide proof of travel in the form of airline tickets or similar."
Yes that makes sense.
1 hour ago, blcruising said:I would cancel mine irrespective of NCLs actions of refunding or not. There is no pricetag on a life and there is not enough known about this virus. It just isn't worth the risk. They'd have to refund port charges, airlines have implemented flexible options, I don't prepay DSC. Only NCL is being rigid, so I'd stand to lose my NCL cruise fare.
Now I will be worried about rough seas and more cooties than normal.
I have 2 cabins booked out of NY for feb no insurance :-(
praying for calm seas and lots of washie washie

This is a scary situation.
I wonder if people will cancel their cruise.....and just Say they were in China for a full refund...
