  1. Since my hunny is a professional photographer, we take several thousand a day. I am a so-so photographer but I take lots and have fun doing it, last cruise I made a few slideshow videos and put them on Youtube (example of one

) and I make shutterfly books for each cruise too. I steal some of the good ones my hunny takes for the shutterfly books. Last cruise we went with my brothers family so I made them copies of the books. I also use my coke rewards to get free books from Shutterfly. They only cost shipping and my mom is a cokeaholic so I get lots of coke rewards points.

I love the collage ideas too, my hunny makes one, where it's a bunch of shots in one picture, but I love the frame idea.

  2. Ok, this is what you do. On the Carnival website go into your Cruise Manager, then select the tab of the cruise in question (if you have more than one booked). Click on Cruise Detail. Click on the tab that says "My Guests". Here you will find all the names associated with the booking. Under the email of each guest there is a "Modify" link. Click on this link and you will see that person's information, along with sections on "Medical Advisories" and "Special Occasions". Under "Special Occasions" you can select "Anniversary", "Birthday", or "Honeymoon".

    Hope this helps.

Thanks! I did it how you said and got our anniversary entered. Will they know we are celebrating our 25th on this cruise even though the actual anniversary is in August and we cruise in January?

  3. If you get to the port early you will not have a problem getting on. We were there about 10:45. The started letting people in at 11:00. Very easy process and we were on the ship before we knew it.

Our plan is to get there about 11, like we usually do, but this time I was told not to come until 330. Is that a new thing? I told the reservation guy that we have to check out of our hotel at 11 so we will be going to the port at 11 and he said no, don't come until 330. If I have to sit there until 330, I guess I will, are there assigned boarding times? I highly doubt if we show up they will make us wait. :D

  4. I don't have the peanut allergy which can be much worse than my issue, but I have some food sensitivities, not really allergies, but they can cause a lot of problems. When I made it known to my waiter, he was very very careful to check with me about what he was serving. More careful than he needed to be with my issues, however, I really appreciated his care and I think cruising is becoming more aware of peoples needs and how serious it can be.

You don't say how old your kids are, but if they are old enough to advocate for themselves and know not to share snacks that is helpful. Based on my experience I think you will be fine.

Bring prepackaged snacks like was suggested.

  5. We started cruising because my husbands job as a wedding photographer made it difficult to take a vacation from about March to November. Living in ND, January is not really a hot spot for local travel. :) We have found it to be a very economical way to travel too. One cruise I got all four of us in an inside RCCL cabin for less than 1500$ for the week! And I got plane ticket for 213$ each, I doubt I will see that again. Can't do any other vacation with food and entertainment for that price.

We tend to gravitate to the southern Caribbean. I think it is because we like the more natural less developed places. We are more likely to enjoy a deserted beach as compared to one that has all the water toys etc. That's just us though. You can find nature and beauty on any of the islands.

And the best part of a cruise, is that no one can get a hold of you!! Phone off. :)

  6. Adventure arrives at 6am, what time do the generally disembark? What is a safe time to book a flight? Flights we are looking at seem to jump from 10am to 3pm. Would like to get out as early as possible but not under massive stress. We will be able to do early walk off with luggage, just hubby & I with one bag each.

    BonVoyage

    Dawna

I wouldn't do anything before 11 am. Adds to the price of the flight, but even though the ship docks at 6am doesn't mean the customs and everything will go as planned. A lot of people make earlier flights and do just fine. I am just an over planner for the worst case. :)

  7. Do Taxis in Antigua take credit cards?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Like stated not that I have seen either, but I wouldn't anyway. In 7 cruises, we have used our CC once and it got hacked.

  8. Thanks! We are planning the same type of thing for next summer. Kids with us the first week, then send them home. But ours will be 17, 7, and 4. So we are planning on seeing them all the way to security at the airport. But glad to know getting back on is simple :)

It was sort of unsetteling to send them off, but they made it. I over worry. If my kids had been younger, I would have done the same as you and brought them to the airport. It will be a very easy process for you when you get back and the second week is so peaceful. :)

  9. We did this for a group of 16. Linked all the bookings and got seated at 3 different tables not close to each other, one group was in a different dining room, and even one pair got a different time. We went to the dining room as soon as we got on board and they were able to switch us around so we had 2 large tables next to each other. Check your seating assignment as soon as you get your card, then go to the dining room right away to get it fixed if it's wrong. Don't wait until supper to get changes made.

  10. When we did it we skipped the meet up time since we were sending our kids (17 and 19) home after the first week. We went off the ship with them helped them get in a taxi, said a prayer and sent them off to the Miami airport. Then we had to wait until the ship zeroed to get back on. Not a big deal, we got to wait in the lounge where all the suite people get to wait, had internet, we knew to bring our laptops off and it wasn't too long before we got back on with the new group. I believe on the way to the lounge we were directed somewhere to get our new card. Very easy process. And we got a fruit basket of fruit we didn't want, but there were some nuts and fruit snacks too, and a bottle of champange.

  11. The g/f and I will be in Barbados 9/29 and we want to snorkel.

Is there any company that anyone would recommend to book through? Based on my research it seems Westside Scuba is pretty good, but they seem they are geared mainly for scuba diving....?

Anyone have any input or have used them for snorkeling?

    Barbados: http://www.westsidescuba.com/about.htm

    Thank You

Another idea is to take the bus to Folkestone. It's a small beach, but there is great snorkeling right off shore. There is a nice park there and a very old church that you can tour. I believe it's St James Parish. There are chairs there, it's shaded and there is a food stand. It also has a changing/bathroom. Last time we were there they had lockers in the changing rooms that if you brought your own lock you could put your stuff in while you snorkel.

  12. We are still 212 days out from our Adventure Cruise, but I haven't cruised RCCL since they started reserving tickets for shows. When does this show up on my booking so I can do this? Not sure that I want to plan stuff like that out but if we have to, I guess we will.

Other than the ice shows which are in a smaller venue, has it been such a problem that they needed to go to this method of seating people? I don't feel like any show I have been to has not had enough seats. I could be wrong though.

Mostly just wondering when I should look for it.

    Thanks

  13. It is tricky since we tend to travel with a lot of camera equipment. When we are on an excursion we have felt safe leaving things on the boat while we snorkel or on the bus while at a stop. On public beaches we have left our stuff while we have gone in the water, but it is unsettling. The less crowded the beach, the safer we feel. One of us always keeps an eye on it, but honestly we would never be able to get there in time if someone took our stuff. When we want to snorkel we go in one at a time. Not as fun. One thing we have learned to travel with is a small padlock. There are scattered beaches with lockers. One is Folkestone in Barbados, they have a changing room with lockers if you bring your own lock you can lock up your stuff. They are rickety, but it's better than nothing. Can't remember other places but there have been a few over the years. A lock is small and light to carry.

I think it would be a huge money maker for someone to put up pay lockers on the beaches. Most of us would pay.

We also carry a waterproof bag for cc's cash etc.

  14. Hello I have a few questions if anyone could help answer. We are a family of 7 that includes 5 teenagers on our first cruise ever.We visit San Juan on our 3rd day. My hubby wants to visit the Rum factory while we are there. Now my questions are

1 Is the Rum Factory in San Juan or on another island that we can visit while in port?

2 What activites are there for the teens (13-19) to enjoy while we tour the Rum factory?

    Any suggestions are helpful?

I would skip the rum factory. You only tour a mock up of parts of it. Having said that, the kids might enjoy it, the grounds are pretty, but its not that exciting.

Now the ferry ride over, that was kind of cool and worth 50 cents just for a fun boat ride. we got kind of close to a few of the big container type ships and enjoyed it. :)

  15. If you want to make it a relaxing beach day there is no need to book anything ahead. Just go to Mahogany Beach. nice pretty walk, the chairlift looks cool, but I liked the walk. It was thru some gardens and was only about a quarter mile. There are kayaks etc to rent there if you want. Beach chairs are free. If you go to the left (facing the water) you can snorkel on the other side of the dock that's there. They rent snorkels, but you can bring your own too. Really nice snorkeling, but so many people were standing on the coral when we were there. I hope it stays nice.

  16. Yes, Mahogany Bay is a cruise port complex built by and belonging to Carnival, occasionally other ships port there but they must have an arrangement with Carnival.

There was a time anyone from the western world could get in the complex, flash a bit of money and bobs your uncle, that may still be the case for the shops. Last I heard only people with Carnival wrist bands were allowed on the beach. The beach is man made by Carnival so it doesn't seem any great loss to not be allowed in. :0)

    http://www.mahoganybaycc.com/

I don't remember needing a wrist band to get on the beach. Seemed like the whole area was kind of closed off though so I don't know how others would get in.

  17. Wife and my 4 very active boys are sailing in August to:

    Amber Cove

    St. Thomas

    San Juan

    Grand Turk

and are looking for a beach excursion where the beach has a lot of water toys (inflatables in the water) to play on and or other beachish excursions you would recommend. Boys are 17,13,9 and 5.

    Thanks for the help!

Love Grand Turk and beaches are right off the ship.

On St Thomas I recommend Coki Beach. No inflatable beach toys to climb on, but the snorkeling there is awesome and the fish and coral are a few feet off the beach.
