  1. Smart move. You can do it easily in 20min as it's all flat and about 13 blocks.

    Mike:)

Thanks! I'll take the 30 bucks I save by walking and have one (or three..) extra Key West Lemonade's at Caroline's Café!..

  2. Somebody a few posts down has a review of a tour with tour company Acquarius, which does a stop at Starfish Point along with a snorkel stop and Stingray City. Might be an option for you. Look them up, their tour looks pretty awesome, and seems reasonably priced especially for all that you get.

We were going to head to 7 mile beach and just hang there for our day in GC, but are now going with this tour instead.

    Have fun!

  3. Was just on her in June and the pool and hottub are adults only all the time. However the aft area itself is not. There is an ice cream machine back there and it draws lots of kids to the area.

    Thanks for the response!!

That's too bad, especially if it rains, since it's the covered pool. Funny they would put an ice cream machine there.

  4. In addition to what riffatsea mentioned, you also have:

    1. priority dining room seating, so your requests are more likely to be honored (such as table size, window seating, etc.).

    2. priority line at guest services. We used this twice on our past cruise - walking right up to guest services in stead of standing in a line of 5-15 people.

If it were just DH & I, I may not use it. It is very helpful with our son to be able to access the stateroom right away.

My main reasons for going forward with the FTTF are

    - Minimal waiting in line to start off the cruise, good way to get it going

    - Able to drop off the carry-ons that will be loaded with Pop and a bit of Vino

    - Less worries about the tender in GC

  5. I'd do the CVS because it is closer so you won't have to carry it so far. By the way, where does your ship dock? Will your particular ship allow you to bring pop on board?

We will be on the Carnival Freedom. From what I can see on the City of Key West website, we'll be docking at Pier B, which is a tad farther then Mallory for the CVS, but still closer than the Walgreens. I am pretty sure Carnival allows you to bring in Pop, but let me know if I am wrong.

    Thanks!!

  6. FYI, I emailed the Westin regarding the day room for our January 7th visit and received the following response:

"We are sorry to inform you that we do not offer day use on the dates you provided, for they are high season.

Note that the low season starts on May and ends on November.

Should you have any alternative dates to check please let us know."

  7. Hello all!

Just read that on the first 2.0 Freedom sailing, the Red Frog Pub did not have the food menu which is being offered Sunshine. Is this a permanent thing, or will they be serving food eventually? I know that was still a lot of construction going on during the sailing, maybe the kitchen for the Pub was not done..

And, does the 2.0 Freedom still have the Fish and Chips and the Deli?

    Thanks!!

  8. Just a thought. Paradise Grill (just before Eden Rock Dive Center) also rents snorkel gear. There is a nice easy entry into the water and plenty of sandy/coral free shallow water to get your feet wet so to speak. We are experienced snorkelers an swam close to shore for the first hour or so (which would be very easy for a beginner) then headed out to Eden Rock for the afternoon (which I would not recommend for a beginner). So you can easily snorkel around close to shore in shallow water right at Paradise Grill. Just another option.

Thanks for the great feedback!! I did see some stuff and Paradise Grill, but could not find a site which indicated if they rented gear or not. This might be a perfect option for us! Do you remember what their prices are?

    Thanks again!

  9. Hello!

Thinking of doing 7 miles beach for a few hours, and then doing a U-turn and heading to the Eden Rock diving centre for the rest of our time in GC. We (me, DD 14 and DS 11) would be renting the snorkeling equipment there, it's 14 bucks according to their website. So.. can anyone provide some general feedback on this place and the snorkeling there. Is it more a place for experienced snorkelers? (which we are not..) For those who have done it, is it an easy process to rent the equipment? How far a walk from the port area to here?

Any feedback would be muchly appreciated! Thanks!

  10. Hello!!

I've seen several post pertaining to this, but now cannot find them.. so..

We will be in the Cayman Islands next year, but unfortunately with 5 other ships and nearly 20000 passengers... so I am guessing that the taxi/traffic situation will be pretty atrocious when coming off the tender. Therefore looking to see how long a walk it is from the Cruise Port to Royal Palms. I'll be there with my 11 and 14 year olds, who are both in good shape and can handle long walks.

I remember seeing a detailed review with picture on the walk, but again, cannot find it, so if someone know and could provide that link for that review, that would be appreciated as well.

    Thank you!

  11. Great review!

I am looking at the llloowww rates right now for August and am tempted.

I've had a lot of my questions answers already by reading all the posts, but was wondering if you can comment on the waterslide on the ship. Can seem to find any pics of it anywhere. It is a true waterslide of just a little kiddie thing. I'd be going with my 11 year old and 14 year old, so they'll be asking..

    Thanks!

  12. Hello!

Looking at Playa Mia while in Coz/Jan 2015, and wondering if I should go buffet or a la carte. Be with my 11 year old and 14 year old. A few questions

    - Any drinks included with the buffet? (soft drinks, juice)

    - Is it one shot through the buffet, or can you come and go as you wish?

    - What time does it open and what time to they shut it down?

    - Any feedback on the quality vs. ordering a la carte?

    - Anyone have a pic of the a la carte menu?

Oh, and a non-food question, how much to rent the snorkel stuff at Playa Mia?

    Thank you!!
