  1. Why not put nice clothes in a carry on in case luggage is lost?

Sent from my Moto G (4) using Forums mobile app

Because your carry on should have your most needed and most used items, which would be clothes you would wear during the day to tour. I was on the Silhouette with Barb (TMLAalum) and her husband during the time she had no luggage. They purchased some items before boarding and always managed to look nice every evening at the elite cocktail hour. I think they handled a situation that could have put a real damper on a trip with ease and a very positive attitude. I not sure I would have handled this as well as she did. (This was a 2 week cruise) . What we wear is not as important as the people we meet and the memories we bring home.

It was a pleasure meeting you Barb and we hope to meet up with you again, this time with your luggage (and glad to hear it was waiting for you at the airport).

  2. We also love Blu. Several cruises ago we had our first aqua cabin and I don't see us ever going back to the MDR. Last cruise we were upgraded to a sky suite and ate in Luminea. That was also wonderful. Next up the Silhouette in August and back to Blu.

  3. Thanks for your comments. We are on the Christmas cruise, similar itinerary to yours and are looking forward to seeing the refurbished Millie ;). We plan to stay oxvernight in Bangkok and have booked a private tour to see as much as possible. We don't dock until 10am (ish), so it wouldn't be worth travelling that far to come virtually straight back ;). Did you visit Koh Samui on your itinerary?

No we did not get to Koh Samui on this trip.

Also wanted to mention that we ate in Bistro on 5, Qsine , and Olympic, twice in each. Food and service were great. During dry dock Olympic is changing to Tuscan Grill. Sorry to see it go but Tuscan is a favorite.

  4. Bangkok, Thailand overnight. First day we went to Samed Island for a beach and snorkeling day. Next day we did a full day tour of Pattaya including an elephant ride, botanical gardens and show.

We chose not to go into Bangkok but spoke to people who did, it was a 3 hour bus ride each way, some felt it was worth it and some did not.

Singapore, Plenty to do, had a Singapore Sling at Raffles, rode the HoHo bus, saw the view from Marina Bay Sky Park and spent an entire morning walking around Chinatown.

We had a wonderful time and the weather was great, no rain but very hot. Let me know if you need any other information.

  5. Hi Jane,

How was the HK to Singapore itinerary because we are looking to cruise from 12/21-1/2.:)

    Bob

    Bob,

Hong Kong is great, the Peak, the Big Buddha, Maccao(sure I am spelling this wrong), fishing villages and cooking classes, lots to see and do.

Vietnam, Ha Long Bay we did an overnight on a Paradise Privilege boat, there were 5 of us and 3 cabins so it was perfect. We went in the caves, cruised the bay visited a Pearl Farm, had a cooking class.

Vietnam, Hue/ Danang visited the Tombs of Khai Dinh and Tu Duc, had lunch on a boat on the Perfume River followed by a bike ride.

Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City went to the CuChi Tunnels (while this is now a tourist attraction it is also very disturbing if you are old enough to remember the war), had lunch on the Saigon River and a 12 mile bike ride through rice paddies, villages and ending in a rubber plantation, and a quick tour in Ho Chi Minh City.

  6. I was also on the Millie from Hong Kong to Singapore in an aqua room on deck 11 and from Singapore to Sydney in a suite. I agree the aqua room needed some repairs, had trouble with the sink not draining and the toilet not flushing but we had a wonderful room attendant who kept everything clean and repairs were taken care of quickly.

As far as Blu is concerned we found it to be wonderful, food and wine were very good and the staff exceptional. Luminea also very good with a variety of menus and another great staff.

We were disappointed to miss Bali, safety must come first and I am glad for the people of Bali that nothing happened. I am sure the 200 crew members who were going to have a chance to see their families were also disappointed but with all that is going on in the world today Celebrity made the right decision.

As for evening chic nights, I saw very few tuxedos and long gowns, people were dressed nicely, many men in suits or sport jackets, collared shirts and women in cocktail dresses or pants with dressy tops. We have always chosen to eat in Blu or a specialty restaurant to avoid having to pack the overly dressy clothes so the new dress code is fine with us. What others choose to wear has no impact on our ability to have a good time.

Overall the Millie is ready for a face lift but is still a great ship with as good a crew as you will ever find.

  7. Norris,

I have loved following your review each day, the pictures are wonderful and it sometimes felt as if you were taking us all with you. We will be on the Silhouette for the first time in August for the British Isles. I am looking forward to the lawn club and wondering if it will be to cold for an alcove.

It sounds as though you both had a great trip and I really look forward to your comparison with Princess. Now I will go back and read your past reviews!

    Thanks for a great read

  8. While I do think you can find a dressier pair of flip flops, if you are happy with what you have and they are comfortable than wear them. I also have flip flops that are leather and decorated with bling that I wear to dinner and have seen many versions of the same shoes on lots of people both in the dining room and Blu. Don't let the negative attitudes or fashion police on theses boards bother you. Enjoy your vacation!

  9. Hello,

We are on the 6/16 sailing on the Amalyra from Budapest to Luxembourg. It's called the ultimate river cruise but includes most of the stops listed in the rivers and castles itinerary. It is our first river cruise and we are very excited about it. I have been reading these boards for months picking up clues for things to do and see.

I am also very interested in the bike tours. What a great way to see the see the towns. We will have 4 days in Budapest and 4 days in Paris so any suggestions for the "must sees" are welcome.
