  1. Thanks for posting the story.

I was on NCL last year and the shows were much better than the current regent productions.

I stopped going to some shows on Regent the last couple years, but now that they are converting the production companies I will try them all once again.

  2. Please Regent, none of that Backhouse pinot noir.

I don't know if that is the same one I had at a bar one night, but I had to spit it back in the glass it was soooooo nasty. The bartender and I had a laugh over it, but my god it was awful.

I thought it was either corked or the bartender playing a joke with me by putting something in the wine.

  3. No More Jackaroo Chardonnay.

Embarrassing for Australians on board when people think it is representing Australian wine. The label name should give a clue to the way they market very ordinary wine. I'm surprised Regent fell for it.

    HAHAHHAHHAHA!!!!!!

I hate that crap too!!!! What can you expect from a wine under $10.

I don't expect a wine spectator 95+ rated Chardonnay, but you can find a decent chardonnay for $15-20. Especially buying in the bulk quantities that NCLH is buying.

  4. No vacation and for that matter no cruise is going to be flawless. Sorry, but true.

I just spent last memorial day weekend in a 5 star resort in a very large oceanfront suite. I am a gold member of their reward program as well.

There were multiple things that went wrong. A couple of them we talked to the mgmt about and they were corrected. The others I prefer not to "sweat the small stuff".

Everyone has differing expectations and tolerance for issues that may go "wrong"

For me, I would address the 2 requests for an ice bucket for the champagne.

The size of the fish fillet, now that is even below my definition of small stuff.

  5. Generally, on itineraries that are not full, they offer upsells to those in PH suites to an upper suite to free up their suite. Then upsell offers go to the "E", "D", etc. suites to fill the now available PH suites. This generates $$$ for Regent. Then, whatever is left is given to Guarantees. Your experience may vary.

Yes, this is generally the way it works as it was explained to me.

  6. Check out the latest Regent news from Cruise Critic:

Regent Seven Seas Cruises to Sail 137-Night World Cruise in 2018

I got a direct mail piece yesterday on the WC. I really like the itinerary. Going South around Australia and the Africa/South America portion are both a little different.

Also looks like they did a wonderful refurbishment on the Navigator.

Unfortunately the only WC I will be doing is after retirement.

  7. My last comment on the Taj versus other cities.

Mumbai is an iconic Indian city. However, you really need to spend some time here to appreciate it. Not just a port day or two. Traffic is/can be unbelievable in Mumbai and you may end up spending more time on the bus than at the attractions on a cruise tour. Much worse in Mumbai than Delhi.

I looked at the Itinerary and the Taj trip starts the second day of Mumbai. So you will have one day in Mumbai. The second day you go on the Taj trip. You pick up the cruise again in Mangalore. You miss the ports of Goa and Mangalore.

I have been to Mumbai, Goa, Mangalore, Delhi, Agra and others. Again, missing one day Mumbai, Goa and Mangalore to see the Taj is a no brainer in my mind.

Also on this tour you have an option to see the Agra Red Fort. This is a great site to visit and IMO is as good or better than anything you will see in Goa or Mangalore.

If you have time and inclination and want to experience a true India moment. One that you will never forget. Take a taxi to Old Delhi and then get on a Cycle Rickshaw and go through the Old Delhi.

  8. I would agree with Island Cruiser. I have done land tours in India and they were fantastic. I will also say that India isn't for everyone. If you are an experienced traveler I think you will appreciate it as a totally different culture and way of life.

If you are trading Goa and Mangalore for a trip to the Taj. It is a no brainer. Do it.

I have been to all three.

I stayed at the ITC last year. Service is great, food is very good. Rooms are dated but nice.

  9. So Regent could theoretically end up with "Shippy McShipface"...try saying that one after too many cocktails!

I think a naming contest could be fun - probably couldn't give the winners a free cruise or anything, but a nice upgrade or some OBC would be nice. I've already penciled in a few names. :D

That is freaking hilarious. Yes, after a few you will be "McShipfaced".

  10. People love to throw around the word FREE. Free tours, free booze...sorry it is not free on any luxury line. You are paying for it in the price of your cruise. Included yes but free no.

I think we all realize it is not FREE. Like you said, it is Included.

Just more fun to say FREE.

    FREE Internet

    FREE Booze

    FREE Tours

    FREE FREE FREEEEEEEEEE! LOL

  11. Too this day, it still amazes me when someone compares a negative situation with another type of negative situation as if two wrongs make a right. Actually, there is a great deal of difference, starting with the amount of money being paid and the end product being a completely different situation.

    gnomie :)

A closer comparison might be a resort stay. You are not going to get the credit or reduction on a promotion without asking. It would be nice, but its not the common practice of any cruisline or for that matter any company.

  12. Unfortunately this is a topic that is going to get more and more frequent. With that said everyone makes a decision based on their own risk tolerance.

Personally , I would not put off a trip to Paris or Istanbul anymore than I would put off a trip to New York, Boston, or San Bernadino.

  13. Thanks for the link. Good read.

I suspect the Navigator is the most profitable since it has been doing the Alaska runs which have high prices and lots of kids. Kids making the usual double occupancy into triple or quad.

Mainstream Cruises - I enjoy all cruises. Its about setting your expectations to the product you have purchased.

Have not been a mainstream line in a while, but will be on my first NCL sailing soon.

  14. Will be no problem at all. As Pamela1 indicated it is protected from open sea.

I agree that Edinburgh is the highlight of any British Cruise, but then again, my family is from Edinburgh and many still live there.

You will have a fantastic time in Edinburgh. One of the great cities of the world.

  15. poss: Definitely not inappropriate. We had started booking excursions for Alaska and, after your post, I "think" (not sure) that Rachael began booking. Thanks for the reminder:)

So, this is a bit of a complaint thread. While food, service, etc. are close to perfect, the temperature on the ship is not. I understand that temperature is almost as subjective as food. Passengers not used to air conditioning find it cold at 75 degrees while other find 75 degrees uncomfortably hot.

I've been measuring the temperature for the last two nights in Compass Rose after being uncomfortable each night when we dine. When you enter CR, it is 73 F. This seems to be the base setting. The temperature rises to 75F within a few minutes. CR was not full on either night. However, with the center section half full (or half empty), the temperature rose to 77F then vasillated (misspelled) between 75 and 77F. While I do not expect everyone to agree that 77F is warm (especially when the outside temperatures have been from 88F to 96F), there must be some acceptable average temperature that should be consistent on cruise ships. As has been commented on before, if you are a bit cool, you can always put on a jacket, shawl or pashmina. But, when it is too hot, there is nothing you can do except perspire.

So, I'm posting simply to express how uncomfortable we have been (Horizons is too warm as well). It is our hope that a "standard" temperature will be determined by Corporate so we can pack in order to be at least somewhat comfortable when dining on the ships. Truly hope that Regent is reading this.....

Obviously this is a great cruise if all there is to complain about is a 2 degree temp issue.

Being from Florida, 77 is perfect indoors.

BTW- Are you walking around the ship with a thermometer raised above your head to get the most accurate of readings and a clip board to record them.

I think you should take readings everyday at breakfast lunch and dinner, record them, graph them and post the graph so we can see the moving average ambient temperature of all the public areas over the course of the cruise.

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  16. I have been on my fair share of Regent Cruises and I like the included excursions. I cannot remember having to wait for the buses or waiting more than 10 min in the lounge prior.

The excursion experience all depends on the local tour guide. I have had both good and bad FREE ones and private ones.
