  1. We took the Alla must see tour last June and were thoroughly enjoyed it.It doesn't hit all the stops as other tours but you have 2 full days. One important aspect is you enter the Hermitage and Catherine Palace before the public enters. You get a lunch in a restaurant for both days. Our guide Yulia was was  very knowledgeable  and made the 2 days very enjoyable.

Hi, we just returned from 2 weeks on the Sky.  Manfredi's, in my opinion is hands down the best specialty restaurant, with attentive friendly waiters.  Food consistently fabulous.  We tried the Chef's kitchen twice, as you know it is a "fixed menu" and the menu changes every 2-3 nts. I believe, we tried both the Asian menu and the Indian food menu.  In both cases, they will definitely push the premium wine pkg. which was cheap at $25, one tasting to accompany each dish.   It is indeed a different experience, but I found the waiters to be robotic, they each have their descriptions to accompany each dish.  Found the service to be inconsistent and formal, plus tiny portions of food which did not appeal to our table at all.  My son and daughter in law accompanied us, they are definite foodies and they were not impressed, as were many of the other passengers we spoke with.  If you want a fun birthday, I would definitely do either The Restaurant (which is fabulous) or Manifredi's.  We loved our experience on the Viking Sky otherwise.

    Canook,

How`s the wine in Manfredi`s? Is it  same as what is served in the dining room?

  3. We just booked a sky  cruise for Feb. We wanted to go a day early, that would be a deviation fee of $100 per person. We paid the $50 per person air upgrade fee which allowed us to some flexibility for the various direct flights available for the morning of the cruise. Well worth  extra the money. We are flying from New York to Miami.

  4. We were on the HOHO buses recently, there are 2 companies that have red buses you have to check the names of the buses when waiting at each stop.I don`t remember which one we used. We took the bus after leaving the cruise ship to go to our hotel. A number of people doing that instead of taking a cab.

  5. We just came back from a cruise and stayed at the Scandic Palace the night before and after the cruise. The night before  we were very tired and went to sleep early, we heard the bell  and woke up several times. After the cruise we stayed in a room facing the front of the hotel ,it had a tiny balcony with 2 sets of wood doors with glass panes. We did not hear the bell although we were close to it, the doors did the trick.

It advertised having AC, but turning the AC to the max level provided not much cooling. The ssecond night we requested a table fan that really worked well cooling the room.

We loved the breakfast buffet, lots of choices, the baked goods and the coffee were exceptional.

You avoid the step of having to show your passport to the check in agent if you have supplied a recent scan of the barcode and photo of the relevant pages via Ocean Ready.

I was able to complete the process more or less without error a few nights ago. My only issue was that given I just traded in my phone I had no pictures on file that I would want to use as my avatar. So I just took a photo of the cover of the Cruise Atlas as a placeholder.

Actually there is a bigger issue: while all this 21st century foofaraw is supposed to save time at check in it seems to simply be replacing a few minutes of face-to-face at the cruise terminal with the better part of an hour of my time at home pre-cruise. Doing what used to be the cruise line's backroom duties.

    Thanks fishywood,

I will show our passports to the agent rather than taking the photo. We  will go to the port a little earlier and let the staff take care of the rest.

I was able to register both myself and my husband on my app, scan our passports and order our medallions.  Our passports and pictures actually carried over from our January Regal sailing to our May Caribbean Princess sailing.  So it appears once you do it, you won't have to input all the information again.

I am trying to get ocean ready and see that they want pictures of our passports, but Princess already has our passport information  that we submitted recently.... not sure why it is necessary?

  8. Hi,

We are taking a Baltic Cruise on  Regal Princess in June which stops at Warnemunde. We want to see Berlin which is about 2.5-3 hours away. The Princess tours are about $330 each but they guarantee they wait for any late arrivals. An independent tour is about $120 each but with no guarantee of holding the ship.Has anyone taken the independent tours and if so how was it? Were you back in plenty of time?   Thanks
